    The barriers at train stations are there to also prevent people normally falling on to the railway. There's been quite a few incidents of people pushing other people on to the track, crowd control during rush hour, child prams that roll on to the tracks, children and drunk people falling by accident and suicide attempts. It makes a lot sense to put up barriers.

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  10 років тому

      patsybob Oh, yea, it makes incredible sense to put up the barriers. It's sort of insane they don't exist in the first place. I was in a hurry when I shot that so I didn't mention that they prevent accidents too, I was more commenting on how silly the blue light "solution" is. -Eric

    That water basin thing with the ladles are actually a purification ritual one does before entering holy or sacred ground. You should wash your hands like Eric did but also take an extra scoop and clean the ladle with when you'r done.

    I love the go home music!!! We were told when we went to Japan that the reason you wash your hands and rinse your mouth is because you need to be cleansed before going into the temple. Passing under the arch ways(or whatever it's called) cleanses your soul and the water is to clean you physically. Something like that.

    What Kyde describes about seeing the Buddha, I totally know that feeling. The first time I felt that was in Washington DC, where I was, "The Capital Dome!", "It's the White House!", "The Washington Monument, right there!"
    But our first day in Tokyo, we were exiting Shibuya station and got hit with, "That's THE Intersection!". And yes, we had it too when we visited Kamakura.

    I'd love to see you guys go to Hashima Island. That's one of the places I really want to go to when I visit Japan some day. It's this abandoned city that's basically a concrete island from my understanding and it used to be a coal mine town. Great to see a new video from you guys. I'm liking the look of that オムライス!
    How do you feel about the smoking situation? Do you often find yourself uncomfortably close to smokers in enclosed spaces? And are you both taking note of kanji you don't know in public places? Seems like a good learning tool.

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  10 років тому

      GanonDun The smoking is annoying. It's not something that happens all the time, but when it does it's irritating. I can't figure out who thinks it's OK to do something that effects strangers in such a way, it's really bizarre. It's hard to "pick up" kanji as there is SO much of it and unless you see it over and over in the same type of place you don't get enough context to learn it without actually sitting down and studying it. I mean, a few sink in...for instance 押す (means push, like a door) because you see it on doors all the time, but things less practical require traditional study. I like kanji a lot though, so it's fun. -Eric

    It is because Kamakura is an area of 'Gonoseki' (ancient site) or 'Yogai no chi' (an impregnable fortress), or in other words a natural castle.

Also in terms of that Myanmar pin well I hope you get a chance to visit the country again. My wife will be going back hopefully in December to see her mother. Maybe I will get the chance in Feb 2015. hey guys. been a long time since i said hi. loved the video! the OmuRice looked awesome and made me drool. lol. just a silly question. if someone offered you money for room and board and traveling expenses , would you take someone with you on a adventure? just a curious question is all. i know it would have to be around a convenient time on your schedule. this is just a hypothetical question. my life is one right now where i dont have money at all and i am trying to get social security for disability. so it will probaly will never happen. but asking questions is also learning things you dont know. so i asked. lol. sorry. wishing you well!

      @kydeanderic  10 років тому

      ladyamerias I'm happy to see a comment from you again, it has been a while! Interesting question.To be totally honest the issue would be finding the time, which we are very stretched thin on these days. We hardly have time to go on trips just on our own, I have no idea how we would schedule time to go with others. We try our best to meet people who'd like to meet us for dinner when they come to Japan and it's really difficult to even find time for that! Cool idea, though. -Eric

      Haha you two make it look easy, but I'm sure it's not that easy. I'm in law enforcement and I'm not sure how they allow that there being I'm a female and in a same sex marriage.

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  10 років тому

      shannon Nguyen You do raise some different challenges. Typically the easiest way to get into Japan as an English speaking native teaching is the best option. Working in other fields is tough as you are competing with Japanese people for the jobs and their language level is incredibly hard to beat. As far as the same sex marriage, I have no idea how that works as far as visas and stuff goes. It's actually kind of an interesting question...if a same sex couple is legally married in their home country but same sex marriage isn't something recognized in the country they want to move to are they denied marriage-related visas? I have no idea. It'll be nice when the world finally moves forward and stops being ignorant about this stuff. -Eric

      Thank you for the advice. My wife and I love to travel, so Japan is top on our bucket list of places to travel one day. We used to live in Hawai'i for 3 years. My wife is active duty army and we were stationed there at Schofield/wheeler army base. Now we are currently stationed here in colorado at Fort carson for the last year. I'm in law enforcement so our jobs keep us from doing a whole lot but when we take vacations we always travel. The world will open its eyes one day do see we are no different than anyone else. Again thanks for the awesome videos and advice you guys rock!
