I've always wanted to know how to play earth departure and the trapping section at 1:10 of Cafo. I too play 8 string, strandberg Rich Henshall edition, and am glad to finally see some great 8 string content. Thanks for what you do!
Ah Classics! I may be able to take on CAFO at some point soon. It has some other crazy techniques in it. I will have to check out Earth Departure though too. Thanks for the comment! I hope you're enjoying playing your beautiful 8-string.
Man, did you actually thump with a tucked pick? That transition between thumping and picking was so smooth! Where do you hide it? Pointer finger? Your channel is such a goldmine of 8 string (and other) guitar tuition. You made me pull the trigger on my first 8 string, I’m so happy I did 😊
A quick placement on the knee is what I did whenever I had to switch to Thumping. I never thought I would have to practice picking up and putting down a pick though to get it in smooth and hit the beats! hahaha Thanks so much! Comments like this fuel me to make more! I'm so glad you ordered an 8-string. Stoked for your development and progress. Keep me posted!
Interesting I always practice depending on the thump part I’m writing and wether the riffs after thumping are gonna be long or short I either place the pick in my mouth or if it’s short I use the fold of the first knuckle on my pointer finger and kinda flick it back into place when going to the next picked riff and the first picked downbeat I strum with the fingers or the thumb depending on the part to give me a transition moment and if the whole song is mostly fingers I just don’t bother with a pick and use my finger nails to chug for the one section and usually don’t go much faster than accented 8th notes downpicking so I don’t hurt my fingers too much. 😊 practicing slow is key and working up the speed I definitely practice in a way to make sure I can still do it standing up.
@@nattvarg I think I was just beginning to experiment more with pick angles. The dropped hand is done a lot by shredders so I was starting to test it out. I am guessing it was also easier to switch into the selective picking position from there.
I learned it through a combination of ear, watching them play it to see their hand positions, and cross referencing with the few (and mostly incorrect) tabs out there. I ended up tabbing it all out myself.
Hey Josh, the way they play it is actually to pick the first two notes of each group and then slap the strings with the left hand fingers for the third. You're welcome to download my PDF from the description to see how it is all written out (it's free!)
@@eightmetalstrings Awesome. Thank you. When you say they slap the strings with their left hand, it's it like a mute slap on all the strings, or is it like a cold hammer?
@eightmetalstrings I appreciate the feedback! Just a quick recommendation, you should check out levitation 21 by tigran hamasyan if you haven't already. Have a great day man!
Even nailed the hitchhiked thumb on the left panel
ahahahaha!
Dude you killed this! I need to sit down and learn this now. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks! Happy to be some inspiration!

Amazing cover, thanks for sharing!

Thanks Leo!

Amazing work dude!
Nailed it!
So good!!!
Well done 🔥
fabulous!
This channel is so sick 🫡
sounds very good!
Amazing cover! Noticed that you use 2 different styles of holding pick, can you please explain why?
@@nattvarg thanks! Which parts are you referring to?
For example on 00:23 there are 2 videos of 2 parts and you hold pick differently

How do you learn a song like this: by ear, tabs or sheet music?

Sick tone!! what du you used?
Thanks! Abasi Archetype from Neural DSP for this video.
Where did you get the knee stand for the guitar?
This is where! guitarscientist.com/get-performaxe/

On the beginning triplets, are you articulating all of those notes with the pick?

The former. Like you're going to mute the strings but hit a little too hard.@@joshcantu5405
