This BODYyyYyYyYy
is that he teleports to another body, so he gets angry about being in his underwear
This bahdeeeeeeee xD
maybe he forgot that pain is an illusion, l0l
lol
As a singer, I feel his pain so hard.
I'm a singer too and that's why I can't stop laughing
Remember pain is an illusion
oh cool
He sings the lyrics "choosing to be here" then walks away.
1st comment to make me LOL in weeks. Thanks Landon!
He chose not to be there.
the guy has some balls wearing a thong on stage. yall sing with a speedo on, see how nervous you get.
Maynard truly is another level of existence
He sounds like mr meeseeks
He even looks like one
Voice cracks...still one of the most talented vocalists I know.
It wasnt his voice cracking that pissed him off, it was that after that he didnt recover, he skipped a line in the song.
"Choosing to be here in, this body, this body holding me, be my reminder here that I am not alone."
First this must be a bad day four Maynard 1.his voice cracked,2.he said the wrong line after,3.the microphone was starting to cut out.
Layne Staley forgot the lyrics to his own songs. Saying that Maynard couldn't do that is ridiculous. We're all people. Imperfect. Even our voices don't work all the time. Give the man some slack, gawf.
+Don Carlson yeah but layne was a drug addict. and we're not blaming maynard for his voice cracking; we're blaming him for a little childish turd who angrily walks off stage the rest of the concert. he should have come back and kept going. dave grohl broke his leg on stage and he kept singing afterwards. so fuck maynard. he's a pussy.
He's a perfectionist, was sick with a sore throat and fever. If you see the whole performance he does come back out, resting in a crouched postition, while the band never stops. The crowd singing the whole song actually gave me chills. Ya he got frustrated, but think of touring for two years srtaight for that album, interviews, his mother on her deathbed, etc. C'mon now, he's alienlike, but not inhuman. So gtfo!
You know, that's a good point, and nothing prepares a singer for touring with crazy schedules when they're healthy, much less sick.
Maynard is a black belt and was in the service. Call him pussy to his face, prag.
@@nealdamkjer192 is there a full show of this? I have been wondering for years how the rest of the show went. This is a very precious moment in Tool history
I think its funny as hell and adds to the performance - i would have loved to see that live
Hmm. I've seen this clip before but it was longer. He walks away and pouts and then comes back for the end of the songs and sits there like a stone. Actually pretty cool and very TOOL.
Nah, that didn't happen man. You're misremembering
@@Humblemumble7 no, it did
THIS BODYYyyAYyY
LOL!
The mic sounded like it was cutting out, he probably just couldn't hear himself. You tend to slip sharp when that happens.
Long nights of screaming and singing makes it tough to hit notes sometimes regardless Maynard is a god!
yet you watch videos of recent tool performances and get tons of people bitching about how maynard doesn't do the screams he did live in the 90s. I'm honestly amazed at metal/hard rock/whatever bands that have careers spanning decades that haven't trashed their vocal chords as it seems to happen quite a bit.
*Maynard:* Wammu
*Mic:* Piece of ceiling
*Floor:* Caesar Zeppeli
lmao
A lot of people don't know how hard it is to hit those high notes. I am shocked he doesn't mess up a lot more actually. But i understand his disappointment he feels. Not only to his self but his fans. But little does he know. If you are a Tool fan. We don't give a fuck and we say keep on rockin!
It's not hard to hit those notes. He's just having an off night
@@Brandovibenot hard to hit those notes as high as he is? He sings from g1 to g5. Most singers have only two octaves with a half step to play with.
If you can hit those notes, congrats most people can't!
@@SoCxXerXceSso you think the notes that he's singing in this clip are high? He does sing some fairly high notes and I think one of the highest ones is the scream of dead inside at the end of bottom. Not only is that note higher, but he holds it out for a long time. Yes I can hit all of the notes that he does does but that comes with training my voice for many years
Surely this shows the passion... he feels the lyrics and music so when he messes up like he would in the studio he got mad. A great band should make the audience feel like they get to peek into how they do it.. dont play to the audience
That was short after his mom past away. He was devastated.
He went backstage had some water and cleared his throat then warmed up a little and came back out and apologized and kept going on with the gig.
Those little steps forward like "where is my fucking voice...." lol
0:06 Adam's like 'wait what the fuck was that'.
'Feeling eternal, mother fucker' ha ha
this video is from 2002 man, maynard still sing very well.
maynard fights fan and boice cracks are so cool
real hard man, breaks me
man i love maynard
I forgot Keenan actually had flaws, his voice can crack and he’s too much of a perfectionist
Maynard is my favorite singner of all times but this one cracks a smile for me, hihihi
I love how he makes one fuckup in his whole career and everyone goes apeshit
oh god this makes me so sad but i still heart maynard all the way
Guess his body wasn't reminding him of his own mortality here
Type Parabola 8.17.2002 into the search box and you should come up with the full version of this live performance.
People make mistakes now this is Maynards first mistake its new to him guys
now there is a perfectionist
you go Maynard
Love how the crowd goes fuckin nuts when they see him storming off
Well, this is a rough time in a kid's life. You know how puberty is. Pretty soon he'll have hair in places that he didn't have hair a year ago.
I really would like to see this WHOLE video/concert. See what happened after he left, before etc etc, cause this was the tour where he had a cold.
Type in Tool Providence 2002 -- there's multiple full live videos of it
I can literally just imagine afterwards him saying "god fucking damn it"
I love him hahahahaaaaa
I know this is an awful thing to like, but it makes me feel 100 times better about times this has happened to me now that I've seen one of my idols go through this.
At first when I clicked this video, I thought I was going to get Rick Roll'd, but wow, I didn't think I would see Maynard get that angry over one little vocal mistake. After all, how many gigs have he and TooL put on and how many fans have they already gained? I think EVERYONE attending that show could easily have looked past that tiny mistake and STILL would have enjoyed the show.
haha i agree it wud possibly make the show even more spectacular!! fukin animal he is....
If he hadn't got angry no one would've cared/noticed. Only from him can a mistake sound...good.
thats hilarious
Ahh that's a shame. His voice cracked at an A Perfect Circle concert I went to during the climax of 3 Libras. Bummer.
Poor Maynard
I fricken laughed so hard it was unbelievable.
PAIN IS AN... ILLUSIONNNnnNnnN~~~
If I recall correctly, this is after they did Ticks and Leeches, where Maynard basically ruined his voice. After the mic hit the ground, the concert was over.
Truth. At least he sings his songs honestly and has the integrity to be upset with himself.
RIP mic
The think is tho when a new record comes out he always sounds great in studio and if it's the brand spanking new songs on tour he sounds great... Alot is aging but alot of it is in the emotional backing of the song, this man doesn't just sing words if ya know what I mean.
There are many torches being carried by many people.
yea it did i saw a vid by someone named "HuntingtonST" or somthing, it had the full vid, mayanrd walked off and they countinued the song without him
I find it funny how he can sing the pre-chorus of Sober well, but this song is easier than Sober, yet, he can't sing this song like he used to...like, I can reach the notes in this song, but my voice cracks in Sober. I guess it's just the vocal style that made Maynard mess up. Also, I've noticed how there's a part in the range that you can't hit, but you can hit notes that are higher than it, like, what he failed to hit was a high G, I believe and Sober is a high D# so the high D# he did was higher so I'm assuming he just didn't exercise or used a proper vocal style because different styles can help you reach. No, not head voice/chest voice, just the way you move your vocal chords and try not to have them strain or turn up.
Calm down, sir. He just had a bad night, lol.
Kirlian222
l8 m8. And I'm calm, just kinda processing things, that's all. He tends to have bad nights, all vocalists do so I can understand, but his age affects a big part of this, he's like 50 years old now and the wine he drinks does affect his voice.
mxnpolyamorous i was there. He had a cold, i think they even canceled the show before this one b/c of it. He was struggling all night with it. They finished parabola instrumentally.
+mxnpolyamorous The highest note is A4 and Bb4 in the pre chorus of Sober. The note in parabola is a B4, no where near D#5. I think the reason why he missed it is that it's his bridge, and he didn't warm up/transition properly for it. He also hits A4 in Pushit, and in passenger he hits B4. (with Deftones.)
Sober was actually performed at lightning fast speed in his old band prior to Tool. Look up Children of the Achrynostic (or something) Dynasty. C.A.D. and you will laugh your ass off. That song was performed in 1987!! Then changed to the version we now know. He had that glam look, mullet, makeup, and jesus sandals. HIlarious video on public access in Ohio. Also Trent Reznor in Slam Bamboo. He sooo doesnt fit. Wanna laugh? Check them both!
lol yes i thought i was the only one who noticed that, first his voice fukd up, then he mixed up the words
would like to have seen how long it took him to pick the mic back up
Type " TOOL-Parabola 8.17.2002 " into the search box and you should come up with the full version of this live performance.
Maynard
Poor maynard T_____________T
haha that made laugh.. well kinda... i still love tool
hatasız tool olmaz
Hatalar ilizyon, hepimiz biriz
Aw shit, that sucks. Well this is one of the two times thats happened out of like 1000 concerts? Still the best.
Aww. :( ai still LOVE him though
haha awesome, Maynard is the man...way to fail boss style
maybe he wasn't choosing to be there at that point in time
Exactly! Its actually quite funny.
the first crack was definitely him, the last thing was the mike messing up. it had happened throughout that show
He kept singing after 4he crack, then the mic stated cutting out there at the end
He was probably stoned out of his mind but the way he does his concerts i'm sure he went back and either resang or continued where he was.
lol he throws away his mic... ^^ he must be very angry, but... the show must go on =)
Fuck he IS human...
Maynard thinks differnetly than any other person. SO of course he's gonna get pissed off if his voice cracks.
he got mad because he messed up the words not because of his voice
Haha. I lol'd.
so this i life, i mean, you didnt think maynard will be here forever to yell with his awesome voice?
that was very serj tankian of him
Rage quitting never helps
Im sure if Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, or any other great bands were to have every concert of theirs recorded by a phone, camera, or some sort of recording device, they would have their moments if not more. Everytime Tool does a show, you are guranteed to see at least 15 minutes of that concert on UA-cam.
I think the fans were lucky that he stormed off. They got to here the first vocal-less version of Parabola.
The first time I've ever seen a musician get SO pissed about a bad performance. I think he seriously cares about his fans perceptions of his music. It must have been almost impossible to get back into the song after his voice cracking like that. A serious crowd can sense if a musician isn't getting into his music. I see a mistake made by a man who's music actually matters to him. And that is VERY admirable.
One of the last few remaining true musicians out there. Along with EVERYONE in Tool.
GOTTA LOVE KORN AND T 0 0 L
XDXDXD HE LOOKS LIKE A MACHOKE!!!
AWW!!! HE GOT PISSED OFF! HAHAHAH
This proves that people want to bring down a great vocalist. Maynard gets it right the first time, he doesn't have to perfect or "tweak" anything. Listen to his voice, not neccissarily(sp?) here, but other videos. He sounds absolutely amazing live, compared to other popular bands like say, PATD. Watch the video where he tackles a fan, and doesn't miss a single note, he is as close to a God as any human can be.
Maynard, as every great artist, is a control and perfection freak, so this is the worst that could have happened to him, even if it is just some minor detail that nobody cares about. I still like to see that Adam Jones as no reaction at all, as always...
when i saw Elton John and he was sick with bronchitis/strep throat he could still sing all of his notes... he just had to take a break between each song to drink water and such..
all the best mess up sometimes
no he was going to say "this mic is fuckin shit" because he got alot of feed back.
SEE?! He IS human!!!
@lilORANG Fuck it. Forget about it
it is very obvious that he got pissed at his singing. that's how i get when i do bowling...
What a beast. Maynards great :)
I wonder how they ended the show/maybe only the song.
Anyone know?
I dunno if you're still alive or even interested in this comment but they played out the rest of the song without him and it became a fucking badass instrumental with Danny going batshit on his drum kit.
@@chimaera01 Lmao. Awesome.
He just fucked up in front of thousands of eager fans....i'd be pretty angry at myself too.
Maybe he shouldn't have worn such tight underwear
😂😂😂😂😂😂
He chose not to be there..
hes a person. everybody makes mistakes.
So i dont blame him. We all have our days.
He just shoudlve sucked it up a little and kept playing in octave lower
who knows the whole story, mabye he needed water, was battling a cold...either way he is still the shit. I saw manyard get hit straight in the face with a shoe in sacramento, he was bleedin like a mofo, went backstage got fixed up and came out and said "thanks for the shoe" and finished the show like a champ....
Ok, lets take a look at all the great bands of our time, haven't they all went through this at one time or another, sure. I could also see the standpoint of the fan that went to this concert, would shatter your fanboy image of Maynard as a superhuman vocalist. When the plain fact of the matter is these guys are normal human beings and they are not perfect. Which is exactly the point they are trying to convey to you. You understand that then its pretty hard to be angry at him.
How can you define what is and is not an artistic move within the context of artistry? If a move is based on a handicap, it's still an artistic move for an artist because they are an artist and what they do in that context, by definition, is an artistic move. Tony Iommi lost two finger tips. He put banjo strings on his guitar and loosened the strings so as to ease fingers. It resulted in the definitive sound of a band that pioneered the doom metal sound, which resulted from a handicap.
This is called striving for perfection. Period.
