Riverside is one of my top 10 bands. I was truly crushed when Piotr (guitar) passed away not too long after this video was shot. They toured the US in 2015 and I got to see them in a small club just outside of Detroit and it was a magical night. Mariusz had a bad cold that night and had a very difficult time singing so the audience took over the vocals for much of the show and in return he and the entire band really laid into their performance that night. I was standing right in front of Piotr and it truly was a brilliant show.
I have over 2000 albums in my collection and Out of Myself and Second Life Syndrome would be in my top 50, maybe even my top 20. The rest of their albums are excellent as well. Their ability to combine heavy metal riffing with gorgeous melodies and extremely atmospheric lyrics is unrivalled.
I can understand why you are not fully pulled in by these guys, I wasn't at first either, but I've really grown to love them. It's hard to choose a specific song that displays the depth of their emotional atmosphere. It really grows on you throughout the course of an album. They have many songs that would not be considered a good first impression, but I believe you could choose any full album and be sucked in.
A better song for an introduction to Riverside would be "Out Of Myself". For me they're the perfect marriage of Floyd and Rush influences with a hint of modern metal thrown in.
Riverside is definitely a band that you need to be in the right mood for. They are best to listen to in large quantities like going through an entire album. Similar to Floyd. Other then a few songs, I need to listen to an entire Floyd album or I feel like I’m missing something. As I said yesterday, I probably picked the wrong songs to start you on. When I found these guys I heard them on pandora and it was the song “I believe” which is short and nothing like these longer ones with lots of changes. Once you get through first 2 albums, their sound begins to change and once they hit the album Shrine of New Generation Slaves, you get a much more diverse sound. And of course with the death of their guitar player Piotr, they lost that David Gilmore sound/tone but the new guitarist is doing great. I would love you to react to the newest single that just came out. Since you love the keyboard so much, that song is a smack in the face from the 80’s. I love it. And it’s straightforward unlike these last two I recommended. Maybe that will be on my next list of requests. Again, thanks for giving them a try. I don’t think you are done with them yet. We got you on the Rush train and I think your community here will get you feeling AMAZING about the only real rock band from Poland. Lol. Oh…I’ve said it twice now, it takes some big ass balls to open your first studio album with a song like this. Can’t imagine what the record company was thinking when a 12 minute song is the first thing you hear. The studio version is slightly different in the beginning. More guitar and less bass. I am not positive but I think Piotr was having some issue in the beginning as you can see a tech run out briefly and do something with his pedal board. Enjoy your weekend Justin.
Nice. The first 3 songs of their 2009 album Anno Domini High Definition are probably their most exciting songs in my opinion, along with Escalator Shrine which I saw many had suggested in the comments of your first Riverside video
Yup their sound really changes after their second album but they still keep the root of who they are. I was debating between the same river and escalator shine and went with this one because it was their first song on the first album. I’m sure the other song will get requested. But their new album comes out on the 20th and I already want him to listen to the last eat single. Brings me back to the 80’s.
If you don't know Polish bands Collage and Satellite (which are closely linked) you really aren't much of a prog fan. Both have made some superb albums.

My favourite prog rock band. Deep voice, amazing music, excellent riffs. Their new album ID Entity is also great! Best regards!

Riverside is a top 10 band for me.
❤ Riverside
Their first three albums were my faves. Still a great live band.
You need to hear their newest album.

❤️ RIVERSIDE
You will be sold on them when you hear Escalator Shrine!

@@mpkelley20 I haven’t listened to Friend or Foe yet, going to wait until the album comes out. I really like “I’m done with you” though
Good musicianship, a bit to "emo" -ish, in the slower vocal parts.
Still cool to hear new things
Kind of dark and brooding. I think I might enjoy this as some background music while doing household chores. I need to listen to more of their stuff.
