Mariusz Duda is a masterful bassist/singer/songwriter.... tasty basslines that suit the songs. Lots of effortless time signatures....👌🏽
Bass and guitars are Mayones from Poland ( similar quality to Warwick and Specter). Mariusz also plays a piccolo bass ( usually with overdrive and distortion to beef up the sound. He actually switches up mid song often.
We had the opportunity to see Riverside in a very small venue here in California. To this date, one of the best shows that I have ever attended. This was a couple months prior to Piotr passing away. I say this humbly that I have been to many shows in my life.

For me, this is one of the best pieces of music ever recorded.
Maybe I picked the wrong songs to start you on. Hmm. Their first two albums are VERY similar in sound and then things start to change a lot in their music. But i look at their first two albums as masterpieces. Really thought you’d like this. I think this means you’ll hate the other song I requested. It’s actually not a newer song. Yes, newer concert but it’s actually the first some on their first album. Kind of takes some balls to open your first album with a long song with very little vocals. Lol.
The guitar player here sadly passed away a few years ago from a heart attack or something like that. His playing is perfect for these songs and I love his tone. No clue on instruments in this video. Was hoping you could tell me. Lol.
After the guitarist passed away, their next album was all the singer on bass and guitar then they hired a guy to tour with them. He’s now a permanent member of the band and they have a new album coming out either this month or next month.
3 singles have been released and anyone of them probably would have been better to send you than the ones I chose. Oh well, I’ll keep trying. So far you’ve only been kind of “eh” with this song and Rivers of Nihil (which I expected but wanted that sax!)
Last thing, while you are saying it as a negative with the lack of color, you just complimented the singer because that is what he goes for in a lot of his music. He is very dark and gray in his writings no matter what band it is (he has another band he has as well which is mostly for him only). And A LOT of Porcupine Tree is similar to this. You’ve only heard the ones most people request but when you dive into their catalog, it’s full of stuff you’ll likely say the same thing about as you did here.
I’ll keep trying Justin. If I do another Riverside request, I’ll likely go with their newest single which is like being hit over the head by the 80’s.
Great track! Next suggestion is Escalator Shrine or The Depth of Self Delusion. They’re a great band. Give them another shot. You can’t appreciate the dynamics? Wow…you’re kind of wrong on this…imho

Nice vibe but I feel it could have been condensed into half the time.
Said the same thing to Justin when I requested it. They have a lot of songs like this as does porcupine tree, opeth and several other prog bands. My guess is they don’t want to feel rushed in a song like most musicians are to be able to be played on the radio. Songs like this seem to take it’s time and stretches it out. If I was editing, I would have cut a few repeated parts!
