- Fontana Spa is a relatively cheap alternative to the Blue Lagoon and it sits right on the golden circle. Don't book your ticket before watching this video.
Do you get value from my videos? You can buy me a coffee with this link :)

Love all your 'vids' and your grate sense of humour!!!
Thank you 😊
I went to Fontana twice during my stay in November. Once with a Golden Circle tour. Another time with a Northern Lights tour. I really liked it. And the bread thing.
The lake is filled with some sort of seaweed or something. That kept me out more than the cold. The bread thing was really interesting to me. But it was also included with my tour. But if you’re a foodie I’d recommend it. And I really thought the saunas were cool. They are build above the hot sand and are heated that way. Fontana was definitely a different experience than the other spas I visited in Iceland.
Great to hear, thank you. I kinda regret not taking a peak into the saunas. If not only to have the footage for the video. But I was mostly there to just relax with friends. I'll do it next time even though they are made by the devil.
We were able to try the rye bread at Geysir. The breakfast came with the room It was quite thick, moist and really pretty good. The consistency was denser than any bread I’ve ever had. Sorry we couldn’t get together last Wednesday. We are back in 🇺🇸 and missing Iceland so watching your videos. Nancy & Mark
Thank you for teaching out. Im sorry too and I hope we get another chance. I recently found out that the land where the bread is made I public land. So I'm going to try to create bread my self and put it in a video at some point this summer 😊
You missed the part that sets Fontana apart from other spas, there is not only a sauna there but also steambaths that are actually just little cabins sitting directly over steaming hot srpings. There used be little shacks sitting on those springs long before Fontana opened.
Also made by the devil... Although that does sound kinda cool.
1:46 This reminds me of the "shrinkage" episode with George Costanza on Seinfeld! 🤣
I'm going to have to go watch that now 😅
@@TimeWarpIceland It is the season 5, episode 21 of Seinfeld, the whole thing is hilarious! 👍🏻
I'm on it 😅
Nice video.
There is also a very nice hotel next to Fontana, Héraðsskólinn Guesthouse (thank you copy/paste) which serves trout caught in the lake nearby, just incredible.
Oh nice, I shall have to try thst. I love fresh and smoked trout.
The cold water is the best!! Or the blast of cold air. Hvammsvik is awesome for both too. ❤
Nice hvammsvik is on my list of todos.
We visited earlier this month and enjoyed eating the bread! I have been trying to make it back at home but, sadly, have no geothermal method of cooking so have been trying in the oven on a low temp for a long time. The results have been ... interesting. 🤔 The only thing I would add is that in August there were loads of midges around! We had them divebombing us as we ran to and from the building and car. We didn't do the spa as we'd done the Blue Lagoon but it looked lovely and I was sad to miss the lake (cold-water fan here!) I'm afraid I'm a big baby as I cannot stand the sulphur smell though! Do you ever get used to it? (Maybe a stupid question.) Love the videos - thank you for making them so fun!
Lol no you don't really get used to it per se. Spend some time in it you stop smelling it until next time you drive past a geothermal area. I don't mind it too much TBH.
Aww yes this would be amazing. I love the cold plunging. I will have to go here on my next visit!
It's very nice if you are into that sort of thing.
@@TimeWarpIceland love the euphoric feeling, it's has health benefits too . 🥶🥰
Totally agree!
Want to see your bread effort! Another great vid by the way 🎉
Thank you 😊 I'm really thinking about it. Worst case scenario is I end up with a video and undercooked bread.
@@TimeWarpIceland and best case a side business selling very expensive bread 😂😜
😅
I think you should definitely try to make the bread!
I'm really thinking about it. Should be fun 😊
For what it's worth when we did it in August the tour guide said some of the mounds were where locals had buried their own bread so you really probably could have made your own but I think they said it takes 24 hours.
Yes it's 24 hours. 😊
💯💯💯
My husband loves the cold water, we didn’t go in the lake at Fontana though. Went during pandemic and there were 4 other people, we got spoiled. He’s all about rotating to the cold tubs at pools.
Those cabins by Thingvallavatn are awesome.
Perhaps we were the other people. Some of those shots were during Covid and there were just a few other people there. Those cottages are a privilege to be able to use. Absolutely stunning. Not to shabby staying at a world heritage site for a weekend.
@@TimeWarpIceland We stayed at another private place a little south, off 36 in Veiðilundur. Super cool place. The whole area is great, so much cool nature and history. Fontana in winter is awesome and I liked having Jólagull 😅
Jolagull is actually quite nice usually. Unlike Gull 😅
@@TimeWarpIceland Totally agree!
We visited Fontana last July… especially for the bread making tour. Yes it was expensive… yet it was super delicious and included smoked salmon and exquisite butter. We ate as much as we wished.
The midges were all over the place and very annoying while we were outside. The spa center seemed kind of dated in need of a bit of updating.
It really does look delicious.
A watch on your ankle? No wonder we’re in a time warp!
Haha no that was a locker key.
You should bake the bread. If it turns out it will be interesting. If it doesn't it will be interesting and funny.
Exactly! I'm doing it. 😊
Come on, surely you should head over to Hveradalabrekku and bake some roadside bread for the next video!
That's the plan 😅
@@TimeWarpIceland 😍
No slippers for me!
Rye Burial bread, please. Extra smjör.
That's it, I'm doing it!
@@TimeWarpIceland niiiiice!
Oh yeah! Go rogue with the breadbaking!!
I'm definitely leaning towards trying it. Could be fun. 😊
