Loved loved Iceland. Just came back from a 14 day life experience! One thing we would beg Icelanders to have…. Are…. laundromats! We got soaked everywhere… and being on camping sites … sometimes, if lucky, there would be 1 washer/dryer for the entire campground. We would have to wait until around 2am to see if they would be free. Once we slept in the floor next to the machines to keep our place in the line. We were later told that some larger cities do have a laundry 🧺 service… but when one looks for “laundromat nearby” nothing other than a restaurant in Reykjavik comes up. This may be a lucrative business for an entrepreneur…. We would’ve paid anything to dry up our soggy clothes 😵💫
Great idea! I’d love to find out. By the way, now my entire family is hooked on your videos. You are really funny without even trying. Keep up the great work 👍🏼
We spent a month in Iceland last summer. A great experience. I recommend the Whale Museum in Husavik. The westfjiords were incredible, trekking in Hornstrandir Park in the very northwest corner. My favorite museum was the museum of everyday life in Isafjordur. Very small, but it made a huge difference to our trip that we visited this museum on our second day. Loved the National Museum in Reykjavik too. Vik was a big disappointment - way too many tourists! Better to go there off season.
On our trip back in 2016 we went full circle except for the Westfjords and we tried to see as many things as possible in only two weeks. We saw so much but I know if we are to go again, we'd stil have so much to see. I also can't complain about the food, I'm vegan and I actually gained 2 kilos there. In many places there were more plant options than in my home country, Slovakia. That leads me to the no.1 reason, yeah, I hated leaving. So now I know why. Also everyone was super nice to us, although one of our hosts, when he came back home and found us in his kitchen greeted us with "Oh, you're still here?" But of course, we all laughed about it. Other host even gave us a big bag of cucumbers. Love Iceland and hope to come back someday. ♡
Haha "oh, you still here". I hope you didn't make the Veganesti mistake. Roadside shop called Veganesti selling hotdogs wrapped in bacon. Cause that's not vegan. 😁 Glad to hear you had a good trip. 😊
Great & fun video! I just finished a 2 week trip to Iceland. Loved every aspect of this amazing country! The natural beauty & grandeur is phenomenal. The food was amazing. Especially the local lamb & seafood. The weather was truly part of the adventure. Be prepared for it & you will enjoy more quality time outside. Lastly & most important the people were great! I made so many Islandic friends around the entire island. People were friendly, helpful & personable. My experience was amazing & so can't wait to go back. This country is truly a global treasure! Thanks for the enjoyable content. I however could not find anything to dislike during my trip. Best wishes.....

We enjoyed our latest visit to Iceland! Good weather/bad weather...hey, it happens. We did have two glorious meals...Fridheimar Tomato Farm and Narfeyrarstofa! Even had a lamb burger from Plan B Burgers! We explored further afield from our previous short visit...maybe next time...full ring road!! Thank you for your videos; very informative and entertaining!!
You didn’t mention the smell. I love fish and lamb, the weather didn’t bother me, even the staring of the local didn’t bother me --but that all pervasive sulfur smell in the air and in the water bothered me just a little. You can’t really get away from it. It smells as if you’re in a room where someone has recently farted. That being said, I loved Iceland and would love to go back- I especially loved Snaefellsnes..
Haha yea. I do have a video on the subject. "why does the Icelandic water smell and how to fix it." I guess it's hard to completely escape the smell of sulphur. It didn't make the top 5 but I think it may have had a mention or two in the survey.
I have made 11 trips to Iceland. Mostly because my Mother was Icelandic, I met my Afi, Half-brother, his ever growing family (I think it is up to 35 now) and many cousins. I love everything about Iceland and being half Icelandic. But I agree with your friend about the Icelanders. Because when I would meet new Locals they always asked me where I lived when I lived in Iceland for 1 year. It was almost like I said a dirty word when I said I lived in Sudavik.
You went to London. Central London! Fish and chips are a bit cheaper outside of central London. There are daily flights to Manchester from Keflavík. Should have come here. I love Iceland and have been going there since 1997 when my kids were little. I won't be a hypocrite and complain about the bloody tourists but I WILL say I'm so glad I got to see it before the tourist explosion. I got to swim in the Blue Lagoon when it was in a different place (just up the road) and there was just a wooden building with a shop and some changing rooms. There weren't many other people there and they were mostly Icelanders. When we went to Gullfoss there were only the four of us plus a young German couple. No buildings, just a shelter with an information board. Happy days.
And about the fish thing. We went to see west ham liverpool, I just happened to be making this video at the time. I lived in Belper for a few years as a teen. I remember fish and chips beign the cheap option for dinner. Like going for a hot dog. But in Iceland, it's a luxury unfortunately. I bet it is much cheaper outside of London. 😅
Haha fantastic is perhaps an exaggeration. It's been 20 years almost. But English is on the verge of becoming an official language in Iceland these days. Where are you from?
Haha I’ve been to that northeast corner and can confirm it’s not a shithole. It may not have the same “wow factor” as other parts of Iceland but it is so quiet and desolate in a way that is a little bit eerie but mostly very calming. The Langanes peninsula in particular felt like the end of the world. Just you, the birds, and the wind. What is one place in your own country you haven’t been to that you’re excited to visit?

I love trying local foods (don't do shellfish though) so what would you recommend trying? Love lamb, eat fish (if sustainably caught)...but open to pretty much anything else. I don't go to another country to eat pizza and pasta (unless Italy) or burgers (USA) etc...I want to try native dishes
If you want to try something Icelandic that normal Icelanders actually eat I definitely recommend you try pretty much anything lamb. Lamb fille, leg of lamb (chops) meat soup. Definitely try the fish. cod is my personal favorite. fish and chips are great. Very fresh. Try the hot dogs if you fancy fast food. There are many different ethnic restaurants too if you fancy something else. No need to settle for pizza 😊
@@TimeWarpIceland Thanks. Definitely don't want to eat pizza in Iceland (unless there is a specific Icelandic pizza). The UK does lamb and fish and chips well too so wondering if there is a very specific Icelandic dish that is worth trying I might not find outside of the country (BTW I'm a Wyoming girl so calf-fries aka bull nuts are normal...lol)
Haha 😂 that sound awful. The lamb is perhaps the most traditional that you must try. There is a big difference between the lamb in Iceland and in the UK. I lived in UK and did not like the lamb there one bit. Skyr is something that you must try. But that is more of a light snack between meals.

I've changed a flat tire on the road at 2am in the dark.. in the pouring rain back in the olden days..Kids these days are spoiled. Going to visit Iceland next month. Hello from Sweden. Right now we're having our few rare days of Summer this year. I'm expecting rain & fog but also hot springs. Hope I don't hate it. 😌
hahah, thanks for making these man. Hilarious and super helpful! My wife and I are planning a fall trip in 2 years and we'll be watching through all these! Is September or October better for visiting?
Oh and it depends. It's fall now, getting colder. Late September probably better if you want to see Northern lights. But weather on either of these months is unpredictable.
The biggest thing I hated about Iceland. The rental car had crappy tires. Comments on your list: 5) Bring on the loneliness. We visited Iceland in September. We were up and out on the road around 7am every morning. We were at most places before tourists arrived. 4) N1 Hot Dogs were amazing. Beer was over priced. 3) Crappy tires was more of the problem. We got a flat from a rock smaller than a pea. If the Land Rover had better tires, it would not have caused a flat. 2) We are already planning our next visit!!!!! 1) We had AMAZING weather. Most days were high temps of upper 50s Fahrenheit. The night before we left had gale force winds. Iceland is an amazing place.
showering before using the spa, or more accurately, showering with others. nothing wrong with keeping clean, or being clean when visting the pools etc but a little privacy please!
Haha yea, I had an opposite problem when I moved to England as a teenager. We had swimming lessons and I found my self as the only one naked in the showers. It was awkward to say the least. Many of the spas have private booths. You can usually find info on their website before you go. If not, go ahead and send a message or give them a call.
@@TimeWarpIceland I think this is possibly the best teen cringe moment story I have ever heard. Please accept my belated condolences for the death of your teenage dignity. 🤣
@@TimeWarpIceland Sorry, but I'm terribly curious: did you go through with the shower as you were or run back to get your trunks as soon as you realised that this was a cultural difference you hadn't previously encountered?
@@russetmantle1 it was probably more awkward for me than anyone else. A bit of banter and nobody mentioned it again. At least to my face. But it was literally the moment I rew, perhaps this isn't customary in all countries 🤔
That's wild, I loved EVERYTHING about Iceland but somehow I never noticed any police and had some of the best weed I've ever had in my life... all 3 times I went o_o I'm so oblivious (and lucky I guess). The wind gets a little intense but nah Iceland rules!
True. To be fair, most didn't have anything to complain about. Technically, the most common answer to "what did you hate most about your trip to Iceland. " was nothing :)
are we related? In 1883 great grandfather Halldor Johnson(born 1841) wife Engibjorg and kids Gummi,John, Thuridur came to Nebraska. Halldor's sister Gudrun(born1853) came in 1889. Also met a cousin, Groa Petersdottir when she was an exchange student in Ohio. Family farms were at Keldur and Evandarmula
There are two Einar Johnson in book of Icelanders. Halldór Björnsson Johnson (born 1873) and Halldór Einar Johnson born 1885. I think you are talking about Einar Jónsson (1841-1925) he was a farmer in Rauðnefsstöðum and moved west in 1883. He was a farmer near Long Pine Nebraska until 1907. Then he became an employee at the Linkin railway company. This would mean that we are related through Þóra Björnsdóttir born 1705 and Halldór Brynjólfsson born 1692. 6 gen on your side and 8 Gen on mine 😊
@@TimeWarpIceland Thanks for the info "cousin". That's the guy,for sure! I guess he had his last name anglicized at some time. The Islendingabok is amazing. Halla Hinriksdottir was the football goal keeper at U of Oregon recently. I met her parents at her last game and they gave me all their codes to get on the Islendingabok but I could not get on it. My grandfather went to Island in the 50's and wrote an extensive history of the family as told by all the relatives. I'll add your info and thanks again! (Could I get your last name for my records?)
Thanks for your content, I have enjoyed it very much and just got back from my first trip to Iceland! I can see why other tourists are the number one thing tourists hate in Iceland, let me explain: Yes, I find other tourists irritating just because they are there when I am....but I can't blame them, Iceland is beautiful and wondrous, so it is what the other tourists do that makes me hate them. Banana and orange peels are biodegradable, but no one wants to see left behind scraps in nature, and for god's sake people, make sure you don't drop your tissues! If I had an American dollar for every f'ing tissue I saw on the ground, I could fund 10 more trips to Iceland for my family! And NO ONE wants to see the freaking drone swarms at every stop - especially at places where drones are forbidden. That is why tourists hate other tourists....
belive it or not, i got tourists from germany which complain about they can´t see the Aurora during SUMERTIME, other complain about the darkness in the wintertime, very often tourists are very uninformed on which island they are going and know things better than the locals...
I love your dry sense of humor and your honesty! I am a 3rd generation Icelandic American living in Blaine, WA. Your personality traits live on in my family.
Don't konw where that American guy is coming from - I found all Icelanders very polite and always helpful. On the other hand, Yanks can be pretty rude and they swear a lot.
@@TimeWarpIceland it smells exactly like toilets in Hrafntinnusker shelter ;) Love your videos, just came back from two weeks trip to Iceland today. Best holiday of my life.
Love Iceland. Do avoid the west side of Dettifoss, though. Rangers become extremely unfriendly, if not aggressive if you don't follow their overly strict rules to the point. Visit the eastern side of Dettifoss which has no rangers or barriers (at least not in 2019). It's up to your own responsibility and assessment where you go and how close you approach any cliffs. Stay safe !

Right now we're having our few rare days of Summer this year. I'm expecting rain & fog but also hot springs. Hope I don't hate it. 😌
Let's hope next month will bring better weather than this one. It's been windy. Have a great trip 😊
@@TimeWarpIceland thank you Tack så mycket!
hahah, thanks for making these man. Hilarious and super helpful! My wife and I are planning a fall trip in 2 years and we'll be watching through all these! Is September or October better for visiting?
Awesome. You plan ahead for sure! Thank you for watching 😁
Oh and it depends. It's fall now, getting colder. Late September probably better if you want to see Northern lights. But weather on either of these months is unpredictable.
Great, thank you!@@TimeWarpIceland
Brilliant! Love this (and Iceland).
The biggest thing I hated about Iceland. The rental car had crappy tires.
Comments on your list:
5) Bring on the loneliness.
Those are some golden nuggets of tips you dropped there. Thank you 😊
I loved everything
Great video. Ég elska Skyr!
Thank you! Me too!
free collage degree :D
However icelanders do eat weird stuff, the fermented shark or the sheep head is definitely at least an extravagant choice.
I have a video on why you should not eat shark 😁 but yea, we eat some weird stuff for sure.
top man , 😂sound vice, 🤣 I can't wait travelling you country 😊 couple of weeks time 👍
Have a great trip 😊
I was there in 1993... 1996.. & 2022. Amazing how many more tourists there in 2022.. I feel like it partly ruined it due to commercialization.
In 1993... at the geysir area... there were no ropes or anything... you could walk wherever...
Ha, I enjoyed this mate, I'll be visiting Iceland in 2023 so unfortunately I'll be one of those tourist..
Consider me a new sub..
Thank you! I hope you have a great time 👍😊
showering before using the spa, or more accurately, showering with others. nothing wrong with keeping clean, or being clean when visting the pools etc but a little privacy please!
@@russetmantle1 I only wish I had the footage. It would make a good drama. 😅
😅
If things were perfect people wouldn't have anything to complain about and what fun would that be?
True. To be fair, most didn't have anything to complain about. Technically, the most common answer to "what did you hate most about your trip to Iceland. " was nothing :)
We’re going next month
Looking forward to doing it all
Land and sea tour 🤷♂️✌🏼
are we related?
@@dennisgreene5055 Thats awesome! My actual name is Guðmundur Karl Karlsson :)
Many Icelanders do indeed like eating shark, it is, for instance my teenage son's favorite snack.

He's right. I experienced some mild rudeness... Considering I was born in NY.. I know about rudeness.
Thanks. I've heard this from several sources. Got any examples?
The one tour guide was a little curt... didn't show interest in answering quetions.. more like he couldn't be bothred
Also.. the airbnb host... while not mean.. wasn't very accomodating
@@Eddie-ud4bb thanks I've heard the same about retail staff
@Eddie-ud4bb you'd understand normal non service people but as a customer you want friendliness no matter where you are
A talker!
good job
Change a tire? More than half of new cars have no spare.
Exactly what the gue is for. Temporary repair kit and the 12v pump.
True, but come on, even I know how to change a tire and I don't have a drivers license 😅😂
@@patahel I know HOW to change a tire, but now tires are attached with machines tightening the bolts. I have no chance of unscrewing those. None.
First thing: leaving❤️
belive it or not, i got tourists from germany which complain about they can´t see the Aurora during SUMERTIME, other complain about the darkness in the wintertime, very often tourists are very uninformed on which island they are going and know things better than the locals...
😮 Surprisingly, they sometimes come so prepared that I'm learning from them.
@@TimeWarpIceland yeah, from some of them, thank god they are not all the same 😁
The high price of alcohol is enough to drive one to drink!
The high price of alcohol is the reason I brew my own beer.
@@TimeWarpIceland Nice, never brewed beer but I did brew some Met myself. Very tasty and sweet but also very dangerous, was stronger than I expected.
You made mead. Like beer from honey.
Yep. Exactly. 😉
LOL. Ég verð að segja að þú ert lúmskulega fyndinn, landi. Góð Íslands kynning.
Takk 😁
I love your dry sense of humor and your honesty! I am a 3rd generation Icelandic American living in Blaine, WA. Your personality traits live on in my family.
Haha yea, I think it might be from the Icelandic side.
All my great grandparents are from Iceland. My kids are halfbreeds! Lol!
If you give me your grandparents names and approximate dob I can yell you how related we are.
What about the midges. I read they can be very annoying.
Just not common enough yet so most people didn't experience them. Those who did most certainly hated them the most I would have thought.
@@TimeWarpIceland Are they a problem in the month of May?
Not really. They usually start around beginning of June.
Don't konw where that American guy is coming from - I found all Icelanders very polite and always helpful. On the other hand, Yanks can be pretty rude and they swear a lot.
🇵🇹👍🏻🇮🇸
fermented shark was the only thing i did not like about iceland.
Those who say they like it are just pretending to be cool.
@@TimeWarpIceland it smells exactly like toilets in Hrafntinnusker shelter ;) Love your videos, just came back from two weeks trip to Iceland today. Best holiday of my life.
If your humour is typical I think I'll have a laugh in Iceland
Haha I like to think I'm special. But maybe not. I definitely recommend a comedy show when you are here. They are often in English.
That was hilarious
Love Iceland. Do avoid the west side of Dettifoss, though. Rangers become extremely unfriendly, if not aggressive if you don't follow their overly strict rules to the point. Visit the eastern side of Dettifoss which has no rangers or barriers (at least not in 2019). It's up to your own responsibility and assessment where you go and how close you approach any cliffs. Stay safe !
