Me and my brother went there late at night a few days ago when visiting iceland. It was a nice little hike there and the reward was amazing. Almost no people there as it was late and it was beginning to get dark. It made the experience even better as in the end I had the entire river/creek to myself. The feeling of freedom and relaxation from lying in hot streaming water with a beer was incredible. The sky was somewhat clear so got some stars above and a hint of aurora. 10/10 will visit again in three years when my oldest kid turns 18.
We did this hike. You captured many of my feelings. You have a great, wry wit. Thank you so much. Parenthetically, Hveragerði is a little slice of heaven. The people are warm and welcoming, the year-round pool is wonderful and, overall, I had a feeling that I was home when I was there.
I was there last month in October. It was an awesome hike and bathing time in the river. I had to pee in the river though. Lol My jacket almost blew away and that would have been disastrous as it was so cold but I managed to wrap my jacket onto my backpack straps. We had a blast! Hardly an people there at that time. A little rain and totally windy.
I guess that would be a good time to go. When the weather isn't necessarily bad but not perfect neither? Peeing in the river is the only option. At least there is auto flush 😅
Were you there last Wednesday? We came through the parking lot Weds about 4pm, too many people so we started out about 6am Thursday and had the springs to ourselves for about 30 minutes. Hands down my most favorite hike I've ever done. Absolutely beautiful scenery...and a warm soak at the end to top it off. Perfection!
It was great...the sun was just coming up when we set out on the trail and it was just us and the sheep the whole way out to the springs. And perfect temperature for us Alaskans!
Haha. Well, thinking about it. I am under Aussie influence. My girlfriend lived there for years. And she is hilarious. But I can trace my ancestors back hundreds of years. I'm as Icelandic as they come.
@@TimeWarpIceland hahaha Why Am I not surprised? The Ancestry, without question the Aussie influence on your lady - well, it rubs off she would not be able to stop it :-)
Brilliant! Are there any hot spring rivers that are 'easy' to get to? My partner is in a wheelchair and we're hoping to visit next year - would be great to see a video looking at things for people with limited mobility! Love your vids, mate.
Thank you 😊 I don't think there are any other geothermal rivers you can safely go into. But plenty of Geothermal pools. But that is a really good point and I have been thinking about putting some accessibility info into my videos. In this video my brother had problems with his knees and had to be in a wheelchair for one of our trips around Reykjanes. It definitely got me thinking about this issue because so many places require some hiking through terrain that is not wheel chair friendly. But definitely not all places. I'll put some thought into this and perhaps I'll do a video where I focus solely on accessible places. ua-cam.com/video/oluYEWYg020/v-deo.html
It wasn't in line with the others and not relevant except for a few hours. It should have been a short. I'm still figuring out a few things with the channel. Experimenting.
Well judging by the drop in views after tourist season finished and EU decided to put USA on red or something then this secret is pretty safe on this channel.
@@TimeWarpIceland It's okay if your Vaxxed, but people are a little freaked out about Delta. However, if you need me to come back to hunt for Northern Lights.... I want to find them too lol

Thank you, I appreciate it. I agree 100% Hveragerði is Icelands starting point. Absolutely gorgeous.
So funny and educational… thanksKarl for the fascinating trip!
Did it in June 2022, great place to relax after that hike, love it.
Thank you for the video. Looking forward to revisiting Iceland in 2022..
Awesome! I hope you have a great time 😊
Yea start planning in 2021. Good idea

Yes, last Wednesday. It wasn't too bad after about 6 pm.
How was it that early in the morning?

@@staciwrede8389 Awesome! Thank you for sharing. I saw some sheep and horses but too far away so that I could shoot some footage of them.
@@staciwrede8389 did you visit Karl's poop?
dude you just crack me up with your videos - we are arriving in september - can we book you as a comedy guide tour? :D keep up those sick vids
I need to set something like that up. I get quite a few request. 😁
@@TimeWarpIceland haha, let me know if you do 😂
Oh dear are you sure you do not have any Aussie in you. That humour is special

I used to love this place but it’s become like the blue lagoon in recent years now everyone’s discovered it.
Is it legal to camping with tent in island?
Greedings from Austria...
It is, but only at camp sites. And I would not recommend it in the winter 😅

The blue lagoon is wheelchair accessible.

It's from a horse. Or a very large human on high fibre diet.
