Shanmukh Sagi kipchpges was better, he was alone for half the race, he wasn’t even trying at the very end, he did it earlier, and his time was still faster, but Bekele is a freakin beast and could probably run a 13 min 5k no sweat

Good video! In my freshmen year I was around 25 for the 3 mile, I was not really looked as anything special. Coming into my sophomore year I ran a 20 minute 3 mile. And by the end of the season my pr was 17:46 which barely moved me up to varsity. I went to the CIF race that season but I did not race due to an injury. I am now a junior with a current pr of 16:21 and 3rd fastest on the team. So my words to anyone who is not necessarily fast, work hard for you position, have a strong mindset, and don’t race comfortably, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.
This is weirdly similar to mine lol I got a 25:03 for the 5k freshman year at the start of the season and by The end of sophomore year I got 20:25 and who knows for the rest I’m just hoping to beat 18min by the end of senior year!
@@clerklerp8458 somehow I got a notification for a comment I left a year ago lol. But my biggest advice is to work hard in training and show real determination and effort by eating good, resting good, and taking care of your self. It’s very cliche to say but just work hard and it will pay off!

I agree with the confidence thing. The races where I’ve stood on the start line thinking about how I am good enough to win have been the ones I’ve won. On the other hand, I’m completely hopeless when I’m unconfident 😆
Thx for the vid! Current PR is 17:24, tryna go sub-17 at my catholic state meet next Wednesday. It's flat (biggest hill is literally a speed bump) and it also happens to be the course that I ran my first ever XC 5k on! Really excited for it
You nailed it on the head with the confidence part. I struggled to PR in both XC and track for a good 3 years until two weeks ago when I had the confidence. Just race excited and be confident enough to be able to deal with running your best and know you deserve to be there.
this man right here is an animal he knows what hes talking about and everything i pr everytime at a meet or maybe sometimes at practice i dropped a min off my time less than two weeks listening to his motivational speeches
I'm not sure if it was because of my comment on your last video, but I absolutely loved all of the angles you shot from in this video! The front seat, the little bench next to your bed, and standing in the van actually made it easier to watch the whole video... keep it up Zach!
Let’s go, you got a sponsor. Also thx for these tips. In my town JV always runs less than a 5k. At invitationals however, I will be running the sophomore race which is a 5k. I run a 13:10 2.1 mile so my goal for my first (technically second, but the first was a long time ago) timed 5k is sub 20. I hope I can do it
I completely agree to look at the course. I messed up today cuz I raced a new course and I didn't know when to pick it up and relax. ITS a HUGE tip to all u xc people!!
Here is Scotland. When the first snow falls and lays . Im straight out training in it. I have beautiful scenery all seasons. I'm a THR runner. After 2years training again. I find HR training works for me. Only putting my body thro faster pace on an event. I have sub 20 plenty this year which for me is remarkable considering I have 2 artificial hips.
I've always been the slowest runner on my xc and track teams.. But recently I've improved a lot and I feel like I can easily stay with our top runners in races. But I lose the mental battle every time. When I'm in a race, I realized that our top runners were so fast and I would never be able to stay with them because I'd die off almost immediately, but now, I am physically capable of staying with them on races, but my mind says "Nah, they were faster than you before so you have to stay behind them or you'll die off"... For example, I just had a mile time trial for the start of the cross country season and our top runners were around 5:40-5:50, and I knew I could easily beat that, but my mind had other plans and it forced me to stay 30 seconds behind.
Hey Zach, How did your High School Training Look like? So how many Miles did you train in each year of High School and what Kind of Workouts did you do?
