Watched this video for the 3rd time now. Last weekend I ended up in a comparable situation with my Yamaha Tenere. It was my first offroad experience on that bike and also became stuck in the mud. I was so exhausted and overwhelmed about the difficulty to get it out… Really frightened me…
I think I will not drive solo on muddy terrain anymore.
This video is such a good example of how unpredicatable a situation is and can become. In the beginning it does not look that bad, however when time (and energy) passes it really gets bad.. Actually this could be really dangerous if riding solo.. If you carry for example 1 liter water, only digging it out takes at least that amount of water not to get dehydrated. Let alone then having to walk dozens of kilometers in the heat to get back to civilization.... Could be life threatening! Such a good example video that really changed my mind! Thanks for uploading this. Definitely will share this with my riding friends to give an understanding about possible dangers that does not look risky at the beginning…
    Real life nightmare!
Great that you got it out in the end. Drive safe and thanks for uploading this masterpiece!

Yikes.. My brother has a pic of me and the ktm640 on a trail near the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail. Both wheels are in past the axles and my boots are just as deep. He chickend out and went around the mud. It took a while but the two of us got it out. Solo I would have been boned.
One thing I have found for my Nevada trips has been SNORR on face book. aka souther nevada offroad recovery. It has been interesting to see the recoveries on FB and they even seem to help out us 2 wheel folks. The only issue I see is having cell coverage to reach out to them.
This summer/ fall they seem to have done a lot of recoveries near the lake as folks break through the crust.
Hope to get back out there early fall..

"Atascados en el barro," as Charly Sinewan would say. Been there.

That's the big risk when going out alone and nobody real close to call. Great story though!
