Anyone else experiencing this should give this a try. Thanks a lot!
Exactly! Why haven't I come across this video sooner. I kept wondering why my clutch travels so damn far! Been like a leg workout for the past year since I had the car. Gonna have to do this real soon
After changing my clutch and slave cylinder I had so much free play I could barely get it into gear. Thanks for the video! After adjusting it shifts great now!
Thanks for such a clear and easy to follow video. My clutch had always been grabbing really aggressive and it would jerk the car so much I thought it was because it was a stage 2 clutch but after doing what you did my clutch engages so perfect and its so easy to drive from a stop now.
I couldn't twist the clutch rod at first by hand, but luckily some light over twist with the wrench on the adjustment nut loosened it up. And thanks to this adjustment I noticed the clutch stop pad had practically disintegrated.
I had this problem and I thought damn there goes my $ until I saw this video and I fixed it it under 5 min thanks to this video. Clutch even drives better considering it was low on fluid. Thanks man!!! Awesome stuff.
Thank you. A lot of videos on UA-cam aren’t that clear (I’m not an expert or a full on enthusiastic, more like a newbie) and this explained it perfectly. Also, a lot of the old forums have dead links and photos. No help at all ):
Thank you for this guide man. I had my master cylinder and slave replaced on my Honda Civic 2006 FD. But I noticed the clutch bite point is way too low. Did this and my bite point is now at my sweet spot.
i was sitting under my friends 3000gt and i was like why’s the pushrod spinning 😭 come to find out after one search and finding this video it’s supposed to spin out of the fork and not the master cylinder 😂 preciate it g 🙌
Fantastic video! I just bought an s2000 and the free play had me a little concerned, as my Civic SI has none (same pedals). Glad it know it’s common and easily adjusted!
UA-cam algorithm is on point. Opened up the app to find a video about this exact same thing for my ap1 and it was on the front page. Didn't even have to search😅
Epic video. Thankyou very much. I have just bought an AP1 and noticed a very small drip on the back of the clutch pedal. I believe it may well be the master cylinder leaking after seeing this!
Excelent video. However, it is important to have a minimum freeplay to prevent the release bearing from constantly pressing on diaphragm springs and cause clutch slippage. I guess freeplay varies from models but on mine, Honda recommends freeplay between 8mm and 18mm
Thanks for the video. My S2000 is fine but i had to replace the slave/master on the Tacoma and now i know the way of doing it. Makes a lot more sense. Thanks for the video.
Farther away from the floor actually. When you turn the rod clockwise you are actually extending it further into the clutch master master so you will feel the bite towards sooner, towards the top of the pedal.

My honda civic freeplay seems to increase and decrease on it's own depending on driving style. For example. I would have the amount of freeplay as you showed in the beginning under normal driving conditions and then when I am needing to hold the clutch pedal down halfway for longer e.g. parking or moving in slow traffic, I find that the freeplay gets extra sloppy and ends up being almost halfway down before feeling pressure and then at some point during the rest of the drive it automatically readjusts itself to what it was before. So would adjusting it like shown in the video be any help?
With a new clutch adjusting like in the video makes the engagement at the very top of the pedal. Is it ok to adjust so there’s a lot more pedal play so it engages more about 1/2 pedal travel?
Yes. But not adjusted too much where at the bottom of the pedal travel, your car is still slipping and causing the car to move. But if you adjusted that much, your bite point wouldn't be at the middle of the total pedal travel. What I find is that the bite point IS AT THE TOP OF THE PEDAL TRAVEL (of the tension part). Meaning if you adjusted the clutch to have more slop at the top...that Slop (freeplay) isn't part of the "tension part". Your bite point is still towards the top of the tension part.
after replacing the master and slave cylinders because the master was leaking - I'm noticing that the engagement/disengagement all happens at the very top of pedal travel - within maybe the first inch. It didn't seem to be so high or such a short amount of pedal travel before. Does this suggest that the clutch is almost gone, even though mileage is barely 45000?
should you be able to do a valve adjustment. I've seen a few but like I said before none as discribte as your videos. thanks and keep up the solid work

I bought a new car, th e clutch peddle free play is normal but the peddle is very tight at the clutch point. I have tested other cars of same model, their clutch is not tight. What should i do, where is the problem??
+Ian P It won't be bad, unless you end up grinding gears more often. The worst case is adjusting the engagement too high so that the clutch disc is always slightly disconnected.

I'm having an issue with breaking the 12mm locknut free, when doing so the cmc push rod spins with the locknut. I tried using pliers to secure the push rod from spinning while breaking the locknut free but I haven't had much luck either. I'm hesitant to use vice grips because I don't want to mar up the push rod. How can I hold the cmc push rod in place to break the locknut free?
Hi! Great video but I cant turn around the master cylinder rod... I have no free play at all right now and the problem is that my clutch is sliding. It´s a new clutch and new fly wheel. The engine was out and everything is very clean and nice inside so I suspect the lack of free play.. or could it be something else ? Hope for some advice. Thanks!
sir can we replaced clutch master with another one not same i mean another one for another car let's we suppose that we can't get the same clutch master cylinder?
I have done this to my s2k for some time now. No issues. However I did it when the car was cold. Should this be done when the clutch fluid is warm, was told the fluid expands. In fact what I noticed is my clutch work and the car is much smoother shifting after a run on the high way as compared to before
How do I make my engagement/bite point lower? My clutch has a bit of play but the bite point is already at the top. I can confirm the clutch is not worn at all.
Hey man awesome video, I’m having trouble rotating the clutch master cylinder rod counter clock wise. Do you know why or how I could get it to loosen up.
You can potentially ride the clutch, similar to slightly pressing the clutch pedal at all times. Meaning your friction disk will not be as tightly clamped to the flywheel and this can lead to premature wear of the friction disc.
Yes I did that and that’s exactly what happened. I loosened it again and the clutch no longer slips/disengages, but I feel the pedal get tighter as I use it and also noticed the fluid is getting dark rather quickly. (I changed the master and slave cylinders 2 weeks ago). Did I break the master cylinder by over tightening it?
I did the fix and I can say my clutch pedal feels less stiff than it used to be. The engagement point is a bit higher but smoother. 110k miles and I think this fix was overdue for my car. thanks agai!

yeah ill try vice grips hope i dont ruin the threads. yeah ill also continue to bleed the clutch some more though it seemed to have good pressure just didnt feel as long traveled as the previouse cmc
Heya, As you know I've been following your vids for a while. Problem though! I've installed a new master cylinder, went to adjust freeplay - loosened 12mm nut, and for some reason I can't turn the rod? Is it cos it's a new CMC and it might be a bit tight? I've done it with my old CMC a while ago and I remember it was as you described "no effort to turn". Any ideas? :)
Update! With grippier gloves I can adjust the rod, however it is still extremely tight! To the point where if I go all the way one way, it disconnects the rod from the whole assembly. Pretty much, there is resistance across the whole rod adjustment rather than any "no resistance" range.
In that case you can just screw until you see the piston of the clutch master cylinder move. It will be subtle to see. At that point you want to stop and back it off a little.
DIYGuys lemme give it a try tomorrow. 5am where I am lol. Thanks for the response :) I've done it before on the old clutch master cylinder and that was like you said.. maybe just new oem tightness.
Would this concept work on my 8th Gen ? This video actually explains a lot better than all the other videos I found for an Si but I notice that the idea is generally the same.
question, whenever i go from 1st to 2nd gear quickly it will sometimes produce a grinding sound. So ive been shifting extra slow and really shifting it to 2nd with emphasis in order to avoid the grinding. Do you think this could be a possible solution? Thank you for the video btw! Learning alot
Could be a lot of things. There is a TSB for this: www.s2ki.com/public/library/TSB/A00-055.pdf Otherwise it’s probably your synchros. You can try different transmission fluid but it probably won’t have dramatic results.

Mostly when the car is cold but it happens occasionally after it is warmed up as well. After spending some time on s2ki, I found this forum that spoke about a the same issues I had with this adjustment being the fix. Just bled the clutch and regreased the shifter so i can rule those out. My question to you is did you notice an clunky shifting or grinding prior to make the adjustment in this video? by the way, I am also located in the bay and would love to meet up sometime!

Also the clutch pedal engaging low is probably air in the lines still.
yeah ill try vice grips hope i dont ruin the threads.
yeah ill also continue to bleed the clutch some more though it seemed to have good pressure just didnt feel as long traveled as the previouse cmc
Try two person method as well.
yeah i had my girlfriend helping with the clutch pumping it while i released the fluid ect. thanks for the help man!
Hello
Can’t rotate push rod that easy, is hard to spin with my fingers
Please help
Break is loose with vice grips if necessary.
Heya,
As you know I've been following your vids for a while.
Loosen it until there is no resistance and the tighten from there.
DIYGuys there is no point where there is no resistance. Kept going and it screwed out lol.
Not sure
Thank you very much, It has been very useful to me!
Glad it helped!
Loosen the lock nut...... rounded it first go! No more adjustment for me lol. Shoulda cracked it whilst the new master cylinder was off the car.
question, whenever i go from 1st to 2nd gear quickly it will sometimes produce a grinding sound. So ive been shifting extra slow and really shifting it to 2nd with emphasis in order to avoid the grinding. Do you think this could be a possible solution? Thank you for the video btw! Learning alot
Could be a lot of things. There is a TSB for this: www.s2ki.com/public/library/TSB/A00-055.pdf
Otherwise it’s probably your synchros. You can try different transmission fluid but it probably won’t have dramatic results.
@@DIYGuysvideo Thank you!!
@@CrocDaKIngg37 hey man ! Ik its been a while since u posted this but I have the same issue in my civic 2009. I adjusted the free play but I can still feel some grinding in the 2nd gear... I was wondering if you found the answer to our question. Thanks a lot
How did you get that nut to loosen so easily? I’m down there feeling like I’m gonna break something
When I loosen it my fist slams into the plastic kick panel lol
It's just that simple! Thanks I'm gonna go do this now!
EDIT: looked under there, found my clutch master cylinder leaking fluid... Now what do I do?
+Adam Leach Replace your clutch master cylinder. I have couple videos about that ha.
Clutch master cylinder replaced. Thank so much! You are amazing!
🤙
Why not use the terms extending and contract
Can i do in my honda city
what if the rod doesn’t budge even after loosening the lock nut?
figured it out! had to push and hold the pedal in a bit until it hit the pressure point to be able to rotate the rod
my clutch engagement point is high but the pedal is fairly firm, is this normal? I've only driven my own s2000
High clutch engagement point is good!
thank you for reply, just that high engagement point makes it hard driving in traffic, I'd have to lift the whole foot instead of resting my heel on the floor.
Thank you so much was losing my mind lol
Free play can make oil leaking?
No. That is a separate issue which I have documented in another video. Search leaking clutch master cylinder.
Quick and easy. Thanks!
+jddonegan You're welcome!
Good video sir 👍
My car has hydrualic clutch
My clutch catch point has changed suddenly, now it's pretty high I have take my foot all the way off to engage.
But no clutch worn issues
This is crazy what could be the issue?
Can anyone help
If it’s not a Honda S2000 I can’t really provide any advice
Can you please do a valve adjusting video?
+MrRevto9k I plan on doing it soon, the CR needs one.
+DIYGuys It is a very difficult video to film and make though.
Could you make a video on how to do a clutch replacement on the s2000? There aren't that many helpful vids on UA-cam.
+rrplymouth70 That is a pretty tall order ha. I mainly need a car that needs a clutch replaced. Hopefully my aftermarket clutch blows up soon. I have done the job twice before tho so it wouldn't be a problem.
Skoda Garage wanted £850 off me when I can, hopefully just do this & top up the fluid to fix the issue..
DIY on how to fix my trunk release button.
+Ray vs. The World You mean the button inside the glove box? I don't think I've seen that issue before.

www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-under-hood-22/electric-trunk-release-won-t-work-1103507/
yup, that one. I've read some wires in the trunk are wrapped too tightly from factory and end up breaking. I should really get on it but I'm lazy.
+Ray vs. The World I'll take a peek at my roommates car soon and see what I can find. I suck at electrical stuff so no guarantees
DIYGuys are you in California?
+Ray vs. The World Yessir. Bay Area

You’re awesome! Thanks!
You’re welcome!
My acura rsx clutch pedal hart how. Can make shorter
+turkocan28 what?
What up @DIYGuys , I have a 2004 ap2 with 45k miles. i have a "clunky-ness", almost a slight grind going from 1st to 2nd.
Hey Zaahid! I think that the adjustment can definitely remove some grinding during shifting. I'm in Fremont. Hit me up on instagram @diyguystv and we can meet up.
