My FAVORITE Steelcase Chair That NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT!!!

- The Steelcase Amia is Steelcase's best kept secret. It's a MUCH lesser known Steelcase chair compared to the Steelcase Gesture and the Steelcase Leap v2 AND it's nearly half the price of the Leap and the Gesture. I like the Steelcase Amia is the BEST Steelcase Chair - so much so, that I'm crowning it as one of my top 3 chairs of all time. Let's get Ahnest!

I feel like I didn’t do the best job articulating why I love the chair so much in this video. In a nutshell, it’s the least offensive chair I’ve ever sat in. There’s nothing poking you, nothing jamming into your lower back. No squeaking. It just hugs you so. Darn. Well.

#bootyjuices 🤣🤣🤣Now, that's going to make me reconsider ever buying a 2nd hand cloth/sponge chair!
Great video. Wish I had seen this before I bought my Leap V2, though I have no complaints about this chair.
is sayl just as comfort as amia?
but have you ever sat in a knoll pollock chair steel case chair? It looks like a eggshell and doesn't give full back support because of its height, made in the 80's but it is an amazing chair
The Amia was my daily driver....until I created the Lamia :) We still need to have you as a guest in one of our tier lists! Gotta get you up to Wisconsin soon
Id like to see you do reviews on LIFEFORM and other fully adjustable chairs. Anything where you can adjust the back forward tilt and lock, seat tilt and lock, the entire back up and down, etc. This way you can really dial it in. There’s some cheap chairs that do all this as well. As nicely built as Steelcase is, they do not offer the essential tilt options I need, and I understand I may be a unique situation, but still. I just got a cheap chair from Office Depot that of course is not as well built as a Steelcase but has way better options making it acceptable for me. I do also have the $3000 LIFEFORM. Armrests are my least concern, seems to be Steelcase’s biggest feature. Thanks for your hard work BTOD, I appreciate you.
YES. The ergonomic chair collab we all need!
Lol
Original is always better 🥰
Come on Steelcase! We need a Gelamia!
as someone who works from home 8 hours a day then 3 hour zoom classes at night, I actually value a channel like this. I"m going to be crippled and disabled if I don't get myself a better chair!!!!!!!!
Awesome review! I bought this chair right before I saw this video or else I would of used your code. I'm surprised you don't have more subscribers. Keep it up!
I bought a Staples Hyken mesh chair after watching a bunch of reviews of it, and it was ok. Biggest problem for me was it caused a lot of leg strain. I just bought a refurbished Amia for around 300 dollars, and it's like night and day. Super comfortable, nothing poking me or putting pressure anywhere. And the versatility of the arm rests are great. For 100 dollars more than I spent on the Hyken, I wish I would have made the switch a long time ago.
Sat in an Amia at work for ~1 year and never realized what it was. But what I did know was that it was very comfortable, and customizable. So I looked around and found that is was infact a SC Amia and bought one for my home office bas well about a month ago. I absolutely love this chair. I'm 6'1, and 230lb for reference.
Heyyy I appreciate you helping folks with your dimensions!!! This chair is just…great. It’s hard to tell bc it looks so unassuming!!!
My office also has Amias at all of our desks. It looks so unassuming and minimal that I didn't think it would be a high-end chair. But it's super comfortable so I wanted to buy one for my home... looked at the logo and was like "Whoa this is from Steelcase!" I'm 5'9 and have a super long torso (and average legs) so finding a chair with high enough lumbar and armrests is super hard for me. I love my office Amia and am looking into buying a refurbished one from BTOD.
Just a heads up - Crandall office has a Black Friday sale right now (link and code in description) and they sell a Amia with their extra seat cushioning (the only complaint I’ve heard about Amia is the seat cushion being thin; this is with all steelcase chairs)! If you pick up, please consider using my links! Helps the channel a lot!
@@Ahnestly Thanks for the heads up!!!
just used your link on my new gesture purchase. saved me about $200! hopefully it shows steelcase that you are a valuable partner because you reviews are extremely high quality and very informative.
Hey! Thank you so much and I REALLY appreciate the kind words! I really like working with steelcase (they’re really chill) and I do hope they’ll keep working with me
Dan, you are by far one of the best reviewers I've seen on UA-cam. I also enjoy your sense of humor! I actually think you are talented enough to review anything, not just chairs. Great job!
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it!!!
I have this fab chair, but learned about the seat and arm adjustments from your video. Good post-sale instructions. Also good pointer for shorter and taller users. Thx!
Hey I just wanted to say your videos helped me a ton in my chair journey. I ended up getting a refurbished Amia and it’s great! Thanks for your helpful videos
Awesome!!! Glad I could help!
I bought a refurbished amia as I used to have neck pain and it miraculously resolved itself
Thanks for the great reviews and the affiliate code! 20% off is nice!!! But, your guidance in getting me into the right chair was priceless. 👍😁
Thanks for the kind words! Don’t forget to use my link! It has to be my link + code - just using the code won’t give me credit for the sale! Appreciate the support!!’
got one today. absolutely blown away. wow
Honey wake up, Ahnestly just posted a new chair review!
Hahahaha you’re the best!!! :)
gonna test out some of the steelcase chairs and aeron but honestly this chair seems perfect for me. I don't need tilt lock and I just want a soft back support unlike leap v2. I hope the price becomes affordable during black friday
I finally used your link yesterday! I was going to get a Kaiser 3 last year but decided against it and kept rocking a very old steelcase from my old office (don't know what it is) got a cheaper stool chair for free and decided i really like that form factor for standing desks but the chair is not good for comfort and longevity (its cheap) so finally decide on an Amia Stool - so excited!! Thank you for all your videos over the years - its a lot to decide on making a $1k purchase and your vids are so helpful! I've been rocking my old steelcase for 5+ years and it was in an office before that so I know they last a long time, well worth the price!
finally!!!! hahaha I really hope you love it!!!
I got one of these for our office chairs after I bitched loud enough- it's a shop, so we don't sit too long- we got it on the safety card for ergonomics. (we had broken down costco specials before)
Definitely the most comfortable chair I've sat in to date- including the Leap, Fern, Aeron and a couple others.
The best way I can describe it, is like a classic European luxury sedan- somewhat firm, but springy.
Totally agree, I would gladly watch an epically long video or even a mini series between BTOD and Ahnestly/The Blind Guys!
After watching 10 plus hours of videos on chairs, I decided to go with your suggestion of AMIA for most comfy (not including the over priced $1700 one). I sat in this chair for literally 10 hours straight. No back pain, no butt pain, just comfort. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your hard work on these videos. I was able to use your code for the re-manufactured Crandall and $60 off; totally worth $500. And they are wonderfully personable there. They even walked me through assembling (after I did it incorrectly). Also, I watched several hours of other sites that present chairs and yours is easily the best. I didn't have to give you my email, phone number, or subscribe to your site (like others we won't mention).
Hey! So glad it helped!!! I friggin love this chair. I’m sad when it doesn’t work out for others bc it’s such a good value, but so glad it worked out for you!!! Thanks for the kind words as well!
Great video! I looking into getting a Haworth Fern based on your review! But now, maybe I need to consider this awesome chair!
It’s pretty fantastic!! Not as pretty as the fern and not the targeted lumbar, but an extremely inoffensive chair and feels great!
This has been my daily driver for 8 years now. Still my favorite chair I've used.
God it's SO good for the money!!
Good review, cool chair. Still happy with the Embody you recommended! I hope your knee is okay/ gets better soon!
Thank you!! I’m glad the embody is working out!! Knee is gonna be a whileeeee (torn acl)
@@Ahnestly oh damn that indeed takes a while. Take good care!
Great video. The Amia is a very comfortable, well-designed looking chair. As you noted, the one issue I have with it is that it doesn't have a tilt limiter or lock in multiple angles. This is disappointing, since I think the reason why it doesn't have these features is likely because it is designated as a mid-range chair by Steelcase. The design of the seat and back warrant the inclusion of the full set of ergonomic features. Hopefully they'll introduce a version with adjustable tilt range. I don't know about the Gesture, but the Leap has a tilt limiter. Thanks for bringing this great chair to the attention of more people.
Seriously!!! They need to put their gesture headrest on this thing too. Damn, that would be NICE
Thanks for the great review Dan! Really considering pulling the trigger on one of these soon. Is there an expiration date on the Early15 promo?
Early15 is a steelcase promo, not a Crandall promo! And you don’t need a code right now - steelcase is running a 15% off sale. I need to update my videos but haven’t had time :-/
I started a new job a few months ago, I walk in and everyone's sitting in Amias. So now I have an Amia at work and an Embody at home! Love the Amia, I just wish it had a little more lumbar support. Nuts how good it is for the price!
hahaha thats awesome!
Amia vs Embody, which is better? What's your height and weight?
Two things I would add as I own one and these are two of my favorite things about the chair: first, the back, as demonstrated the sides are flexible and if you look at how it's made it's very complicated engineering and it's excellent. I am smaller so I can shift around in my chair, leaning most of my wright on one side or the other. The downside on the back is that, for me the "hugging" mentioned in the review means that my spine is pushed out a bit towards the back of the chair which can be annoying. Anyone with some muscle or padding on their back or shoulders wouldn't fee lthis.
Now to my favorite thing about this chair: The front of the seat is flexible, up and down and on the edges the way the back is. This is super comfortable -- when you shirft your wright forward the chair gives in the front. It's just amazing.
This is a very well engineered chair with the flexible seat and back it's a lot of engineering and certainly not cheap to make.
That said: the cushions are blah. Thin, back and seat. The good news about the seat shape is that it doesn't have any sort of saddle thing or really high sides like some chairs -- all the contouring is only great if it fits your butt right. On me (130) it just presses up on my hip bones as I don't have the weight to press the foam down.
I WOULD DEFINITELY BUY A REBUILT ONE FROM CRANDALL'S OVER THE NEW ONE due to the upholstery/padding issue. Other than that, the rest of this chair is built to last a hundred years.
Mine is 12 years old and the gas, levers, flexible areas, etc. are all like new. The arms look like they were just installed even with the padding.
By the way, the arms are totally amazing. I have a metal elbow and forearm and I couldn't live without these arms. I can even rest on my metal elbow -- it'a a miracle. You feel like you have easy chair arms so i would never skimp on the arms
I completely agree with this review. As for the chair being basic looking. So? The chairs he compared it to are great if you like that "gaming" look but the Amia is going to fit into your average home or office esthetic a lot more easily. The black plastic back is ugly but I just toss a shawl or throw over it. Once it's in your house for a few days you won't notice it.
Hope this help. Loved the review and definitely use this guy's affiliate links. He does a good job, uunlike most of these idiot "unboxers", hehe.
Great review! I hope your knee gets better bro.
i've been looking for another decent amia review for at least a year or two now and to my surprise you reviewed it! the one thing that really got me interested in the amia is that you can sit criss cross or one leg tucked since not I don't always want to sit upright at home and i think other ergonomic chairs have the edges that make you sit properly. the amia doesn't have a tilt/recline lock to lean back though so that's the only downside personally but i guess i shouldn't expect it for steelcase
Yeah it’s weird that a lot of higher end mechanisms can’t lock your chair back! Steelcase chairs have a good deal less recline than other major brands though!
Just got one yesterday off FB Marketplace for $240 in basically-new condition. Great acquisition
Another awesome video. Very helpful in my quest to find the holy chair 🙌
Hope you find it! Please consider using my links if you purchase - helps a LOT!
@@Ahnestly I think most of the links are for stores outside of the UK, but if I ever decide to splash out on an Embody I will be sure to use your link 👌
I've owned the aeron, leap and amia leather. Such an underrated chair. Amia all day.
Does the Aeron help with more correcting your sitting posture than the Amia?
Well, if I don't like the Series 2 I ordered a few days ago, I can return it and try one of these :-) My order is ready and waiting on shipment already, I'm excited.
We switched from the Steelcase Leap & the Herman Miller Setu chairs to the Amia. Very comfortable! We got 2!
I just got a new one and love it so far, I’m curious if the height lever is suppose to be wiggly? The other levers seems rigid and tight but the heigh one wiggled left and right a little. It works fine but wondering if it’s supposed to be like that?
I remember getting this chair through Offerup for $75. Easily the best purchase I've made. Last week though I just missed the Leap V2 for $25! Still kicking myself over it.
$75 is crazy damn
I'm about to get one for 50 I'll let you know if it's a real one when I got look
Got mine for 40$ last year. Paired with a 50% off purple ultimate cushion, my back and tush have never felt better. I was dealing with chronic pains, from 12+hrs daily at my desk, and now I can't remember the last time I left my chair feeling sore... 100% recommend.
Underrated chair, I could even say that it’s better than the embody. Though I prefer the leap v2 due to tilt locking
is tilt locking important? what do you use it for? the leap v2 only reclines to 120 degrees right?
@@tor13128 depends how you like to sit, I don’t like rocking
What's your height and weight? I heard the Amia is better for slim and lightweight people.
@@persistencepersistence6033 1.8m 200lbs
thanks for your review! was having a hard time choosing a chair and when you said you could cross your legs with ease in the Amia, I was sold. considered getting a light color, but decided not to after you mentioned possible stress from clothing + stains. just discovered your channel and i love it. booty juices 😂
Woot woot! I’m glad it was helpful and LOL at that “booty juices” thrown on at the end. It is quite hard to make fit that phrase into normal human interaction….if you decide to pick something up, please consider using my link BUT if you want something from steelcase, check out my community page post and WAIT until the 26th (my bday). I’m gonna provide a code for 15% off then!!
I wish Steelcase would combine the seat of the Amia, back of the Leap, arms of the Gesture, and get Atlas to design them a headrest.
we have amia at work, really awesome. only reason i come to work
Do you happen to have a good supplier of refurb or used office chairs in the DC/NoVA area?
I was lucky enough to find this for $20 on the Facebook marketplace :)
How do you think it compares to the HM Embody overall? Cheaper is better of course but ultimately not the most important factor for me. Which do you think you would choose between those two?
Hi Dan, Love your videos - been watching your reviews for some time, especially since moving to full WFH, and starting to have back problems.
I was hoping to get an Embody funded from work, but it turns out that they have a deal with Human Scale, and at the moment I'm looking at the Diffrient World chair.
I think I may be able to request other options from them, but not 100% sure. Have you used the Diffrient World or any other Human Scale chair? For reference, I am about 5'11" and 80kg.
Thanks in advance.
Hey! I haven’t tried out a ton of human scale chairs. I tried the freedom and I hated it. I find that in general, I dislike the self adjusting type chairs regardless of brand - eventually begins to hurt my back!
While Steelcase is fantastically built, I prefer chairs that are fully adjustable. Seat tilt and lock, back tilt and lock, the entire back height adjustment as I need to add different seat cushion and so on. LIFEFORM is the best I’ve found so far but from $1500 - $3000 range. However I also just purchased a fully adjustable chair from Office Depot at half off for only $150 and love it almost as much as the LIFEFORM. Personally, I feel the key is having everything fully adjustable as I suffer from arthritis, bursitis, and herniated discs. The Steelcase leap hurt my neck as there is no upper back support and no way to adjust the back tilt. A person must find a store to try them out, we really need more stores for this. Relax the back is one good one, Office Depot is good, but seems there is a good business opportunity for Someone to showcase office chairs. I had to buy and return like 7 different brands, as you really don’t know what you have until you use it all day, week, and so on. Thanks for your hard work, I do appreciate you and BTOD for what you do.
Thank you!!! I’ve heard good things about life form!! And you’re totally right - you need to try these chairs out. Unfortunately, the way of the world is moving towards online shopping, which is why I always encourage people to take advantage of free returns. If they’re not gonna open stores for us, then we’re sure as hell gonna take advantage of free returns!!
Cool chair, but what are those shoes you're wearing? I want a pair!
You are right on the money, man. I tested all the Steelcase chairs, and I liked the Amia the best, so I bought it, lol. It’s my secondary chair after my all time fave, the Embody. The Amia was cheaper than the other Steelcase chairs. My second favorite was the Leap. Their flagship Gesture was my least favorite. Who would’ve thunk it? So yeah, proud owner of two of the best chairs, the Embody and the Amia.
What's your height and weight? I heard the Amia is better for slim and lightweight people.
hi where did you get the plant that is in the background throughout the video?
which chair dp you recommend for lumbar support and back pain?
Can the armrests be swapped between them? Like they could go from left to right from the bottom screws? I need the armrests to be way in the back. Sorry if this sounds like a dum question! ). :)
My ideal chair is my HM Logitech Embody. It is by far the best chair on the planet. I have the Cyan version and the only con about the chair is the blue color on the back. I wished it was a darker blue or a black otherwise, there's nothing else I would rather use except for maybe the Aeron and/or the Cost high back.
@@RabbitConfirmed people actually sit crossed leg in their chairs?
@@prosebeforebros2579I like the cross under figure 4 in chairs, couches, etc if I’m not sitting upright.
I'm 5'7(171cm) and 132lbs. I bought the Aeron size B and returned, because the seat pan depth was slightly too long when I lean back in the chair. Should I go for the Aeron size A, Embody, or the Steelcase Amia?@@RabbitConfirmed
@@RabbitConfirmed But the Aeron is the best chair for correcting your posture?
what is the best budget chair you recommend? for long days of work? I dont have a big budget...
Great review there. I used Think for a short period and been using a series 1 for two years. Looking to add a chair to my home office and have narrowed down to the Think and the Personality Plus. Pity the Amia is not sold in my country. Is this similar to the plus?
I honestly don’t know :( we don’t have the personality plus here in the USA
Amazing review. Thank you so much.
Is there a way to use your code in the UK? I’m completely sold!
Oh man, I think steelcase has different folks for various areas…the folks that reached out were steelcase USA :(
Can you review Okamura Contessa ?
Yo just when I was looking at chairs. Do you have any recommendations for a chair for long gaming and lounging? I kinda sit in all positions (proper, man spread, crisscross, one leg on seat) so it’s been a struggle finding a chair 😅
Check out my recent series “what’s the best chair for you?” And find your height range. You should be able to find a match
just got it, it's the fucking goat chair confirmed
I’d push the like button 100 times if I could. Glad you love it!!!
@@Ahnestly love your videos brother
I'm 5'7(171cm) and 132lbs. I bought the Aeron size B and returned, because the seat pan depth was slightly too long when I lean back in the chair. Should I go for the Aeron size A, Embody, or the Steelcase Amia?
Found this review for the Steelcase Amia and as well as BTODtv saying how amazing this chair is to sit in. Sadly Australia doesn't have it or have a timeframe in which we will be getting it... feel bad man:/
Great video. Would you say the leather upgrade is worth it on this chair?
I personally don’t love leather chairs on office chairs bc I slide around in them too much! If you like leather, then yes, would recommend. The chair is excellent and should last you forever, so go with the variant you like! Nows a great time to pickup though bc there’s a 20% off sale (with the code they provided me). See the description and please consider using my link as it helps this channel a LOT!
Is this better than Think and Series 2?
What are your thoughts on the vinyl seat upholstry for getting a remanufactured chair?
Vinyl? I don’t even know…when I think of vinyl I just think of like music records
Debating between the Amia or Haworth Zody possibly, mostly because of the forward tilt. Never have sat in either and don't have a nearby area to test out, so just have to blindly buy either. Any thoughts between the two?
I don’t unfortunately, but the return policies for both are great so you can buy with confidence! I would say the forward tilt on Haworth is inferior to Herman millers, so I would say your fight should be between the Amia or Sayl!
You mentioned that the armrests don't lock into place on the Amia. Is this any different with the Leap, Gesture or Embody's 4D armrests? From the videos I seen, none of them seem to lock in place.
Hey Dan, great review, as always. Which chair would you recommend for alleviating sciatica issues? Haworth Fern or Amia. I want to invest in my health so I am able to pay the higher price for Fern if it's better. Or perhaps, there is yet another chair that you consider the best for lower back issues. Thanks!
Hey! So my recommendation would be to try both chairs and then return the one you don’t like. I know that’s kinda crazy, but the benefit of these brands is the excellent return policy. Just make sure to keep the boxes and box it back up and the company should send someone to pick it up!
The Amia has a great back, very very inoffensive. The fern’s back is a little more flexible due to the material, although I’ve read people prefer no extra lumbar as it can be quite aggressive!
@@Ahnestly Thanks! Problem might be that the return policies differ between US and EU;) I guess I will have to visit a shop to try both of them!
Your videos are so helpful! Would you recommend a refurbished amia over a new haworth soji? The refurb is at the very top of my budget, the soji seems like a good chair for the price since it's on sale right now and would be free of booty juices. 😂 I'm 5'9", 110lbs with lower back and tailbone pain, currently sitting on an old wooden dining chair for 8 hours a day.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Amia. I wish I knew more about the Soji, but haven't tested it out. I can't imagine anything beating the Amia when it comes to price to performance ratio!
I have Haworh Soji. I’m 5 feet 10 inches, 143 pounds.
The pros: 1 build quality: it may have the best build quality among all chairs under $500 2. the apperance: it is a good-looking chair, the design is good, the fabric also looks premium(I really like Haworth fabric, much better than steelcase’s) 3. The cushion: the cushion of Soji is firm, It very supportive but will not make you uncomfortable. I also have Very and Zody, their cushion compressed after several months or years, the Soji’s cushion is firmer, which means it has longer life. 4. It can forward tilt and the angle is comfortable than Zody’s forward tilt
The cons: It cannot provide enough lumbar support. The support is week and you have to seat very deep to feel the support.
Finally, I returned the Soji, because for me the lumbar support is the most important thing for an ergonomic chair.
@@Ahnestly thanks! I ended up getting a refurbished amia from BTOD and have been loving it. I appreciate all your reviews, it's a daunting task trying to buy an office chair online without being able to test them and your videos were super helpful!
@@user-lb1yq2xy9g thank you for all the info! I ended up getting the amia and have no complaints. If you're still looking for a chair I'd highly recommend it!

It looks like an awesome stool for playing guitar sitting down on.

I've been going on a chair hunting craze recently, and the Steelcase Leap v2, Gesture and Amia are the ones that caught my radar. But it's just such a tough decision, especially with their price. even if it is probably worth it, I won't truly know until I actually sit in it for at least a week or two. While the Amia does seem like a great pick, as it's supposed to be comfier and especially cheaper, there are a few things that make me hesitate. It doesn't have an option for a headrest, which would be amazing, and it doesn't have the top tier arms like the Gesture has. I really want to find a store or place where these high end chairs are so I can try them out, but I don't remember seeing Staples of Office Depot ever having them. One question I do have, do you think these chairs would be more airy and cool than something like a $100 pleather office chair? I know mesh is the way to go for that, but I'm not too sure about the comfort of mesh. That's why I'm looking at the Steelcase, as they look like a good blend of comfort and ergonomics. Your videos and BTODtv have been great to watch as I go through this office chair hunting phase, keep it up!
So fabric is more breathable than pleather, but bc the foam is pretty dense, it'll still be pretty stuffy! This is where the Haworth and Embody come into play - they're using some interesting tactics to give people more breathability!
If you're in the USA, the return policies on these companies are excellent - take advantage of it! I would say get the Gesture with headrest and the Amia and return the one you end up not liking! If you decide to pick up, my code and link are in the description! Please use them as it helps the channel a LOT! :-)
Hi,thanks for your interesting review.I suppose you've ever tried the Steelcase Please chair and my question is: which one of the two chairs do you prefer for extensive telework use (The Please or Amia chair.)?Thanks!
Never tried or even heard of the Please. You must be in a different area! I love the Amia. It’s my favorite steelcase chair!
@@Ahnestly It's the most famous Steelcase chair in Europea Thanks for your answer!
Hi! Have you tried the Amia Air? I believe it's the same seat as the Amia but with the back of series 2. I'm partial to getting that as it's a tad bit cheaper but I'm not sure
I really am not a huge fan of the air back…not as comfortable as the Fabric back!!
@@Ahnestly thanks! I've been on the hunt for an office chair for almost a year now. I think this is the one. Thanks for all of your review! I used your link and your code to show my appreciation!
Where can you buy this in EU ?
Out of the Steelcase fabric choices do you prefer the Era or Cogent: Connect?
I haven’t been able to try both fabrics but the era has amazing vibrancy and feels soft to the touch! No complaints!!
I just learned this is my work places' chairs. We have 100s of them. Only complaint is it needs a head rest to sleep with. 😅
Can anyone please tell me can this chair be raised up high enough to be up to a tall level of a higher up disk ?
Is it possible to attach aftermarket headrest? Any recommendations?
Not that I know of!
Where is the headrest for the Herman Miller chair? Hopefully it’s coming soon. 🥂🥂
Hi! A little late here. Anyway to get another promo code?
My office recently moved into a new building, and I just found out that all of our chairs are Steelcase Amia's. They just look so simple and unassuming that I didn't think it would be a high-end chair. But it's super comfortable so I wanted to buy one for my home... looked at the logo and was like "Whoa this is from Steelcase!" I'm 5'9 and have a super long torso (and average legs) so finding a chair with high enough lumbar and armrests is super hard for me. I also frequently get hip and lower back pain and it's a lot less when I work long hours in the Amia, vs my Autonomous MyoChair at home. I love my office Amia and am looking into buying a refurbished one from BTOD!
Just commented on your other post! Take a look! Please consider using my link as it helps this channel a LOT!
How does it compare to the Myochair? I also have it and am about your height, and am looking into getting the Amia. I had to remove the lumbar support bar from the Myochair and replace it with a cushion because it was uncomfortable for me.
@@opulencelyrics not sure if you’re asking me, but never tried the myochair. I can assure you, the Amia will blow any crappy chair from autonomous out of the water
@@opulencelyrics I feel like the MyoChair just isn't the right fit for my body. I'm 5'9" and about 170-180 lbs. My torso is super long, but legs are average. I had to strap thick pads on the arm rests to get them high enough for my elbows. The lumbar support isn't high enough nor supportive enough, so I added an additional cushion (got the expensive Purple lumbar cushion, which helps but always slides down because the straps fall down the tapered seat back). The seat is nice and wide and medium-softness, but eventually makes my hips hurt (even when sitting on the expensive Purple seat cushion). Honestly, I watched BTOD's video about why all the high-end chair brands have firm seats and that convinced me that firmer is better for my hips than sinking in. I like the mesh back of the MyoChair, but always have to have it locked in place because I feel like it leans back TOO easily.
The Steelcase Amia is very different -- it looks like a small, simple, minimal office chair. It doesn't look like a high-end ergonomic chair. But it's actually crazy adjustable: The arms can move horizontally in all different directions (which lets me scoot in close to the desk) and they go high that I can comfortably rest my elbows on them without bending over. The lumbar is great -- supportive but not too aggressive -- and I love how it smoothly adjusts in height. (This is because the inside of the chair back has these wires above and below the lumbar -- so the whole back adjusts rather than just one piece of plastic.) You can adjust the seat depth, which is great for people with different leg lengths. There's a knob to tighten or loosen the resistance of the back lean, so I can leave the back lean lock off and still comfortably lean back a little without feeling like I'm instantly going to fall back too far. And the simple and clean appearance actually matches my minimal/Japandi interior design aesthetic more, too.
Some complaints I've heard from my coworkers are: Seat is too firm, arm rests aren't cushioned enough, seat is too narrow, not as breathable as mesh. Also I did find one chair in the office with a faulty cylinder, so when you sit on it, it slowly sinks down.
It fits everyone in my office despite our widely different body shapes, but it's almost too narrow for my widest coworkers. I don't think someone 350+ lbs with a very wide bottom would fit in this.
Hope this helps! I know it's a big investment. Let me know if you have any other questions -- all of the chairs in our new office building are Amia and we've been using them for about 3 months.
@@okashi10 Thanks for your detailed response, it was very helpful! I agree with everything you said about the MyoChair. I think investing in the Amia would be worth it for me personally. Thanks again!
I was looking at the Razer Iskur to buy recently. If I can squeeze it out I think I might try to get this chair instead :P It's a hefty price gap lol
Dude. Do it. Seriously. You’ll never look back. I know I have a 10% off code, but steelcase will likely have sales in the future, so don’t sweat about rushing it! I’ll post any new sales/codes here and on my community page!
@@Ahnestly I think I'm convinced :D Thanks. I've been looking for a good chair for quite a while now
I keep having my eye on this chair and the Haworth Zody since they are very common on the used marked in my area.
And you should check out BTOD. They go back and forth which they like more between the Leap V2 and Amia, but they just "Frankenstein'd" them together to make what they call the Lamia. (Amia seat with a Leap V2 back)
That’s so interesting. I was unimpressed with the leap v2…it was good, but just felt like an overpriced good office chair. The Amia is also a good office chair, but priced correctly (or as correct as it can be due to all the crap going on due to Covid) > leap for that reason
Hi Travis ! Same as you, I'm hesitating between the Haworth Zody and the Steelcase Amia, have you choose one ?
Is there a way to buy it in Asia?
seeing this RIGHT after the expire date for coupon just makes me so sad 😭
Been trying to get one but over here in Puerto Rico is impossible.
This is a great chair for sure. I auditioned this against the Leap and the Fern. All were great, and the Steelcase pads move, but not as easily as the Fern (which takes the level of annoyance up).
This would almost be a perfect chair if they had a headrest like the Gesture and let it roll back just a little further for me. I like to enjoy music at my desk sometimes with headphones and like to lay back… Even better, Amia seat pan, Gesture arms and headrest, and Leap back… I wished they made THAT chair.
I LOVE the Amia back...SO snuggly! But I am 10000% about the Gesture arms and headrest!!
@@Ahnestly if only we had the power to make Steelcase put that ultimate chair set up out to market...
Would you recommend this chair for someone with severe arthritic back/shoulder pain that needs to do some leaning forward to draw on graphics tablet?
I would recommend maybe something that can forward tilt instead. Not sure what your budget is, but the chairs that do it best (and are very good chairs w/solid warranty + customer service): Herman Miller Aeron, Herman Miller Sayl, Haworth Zody 2/Zody LX.

@@Ahnestly Thank you for your quick response! I am currently considering the Embody, just watching your reviews on it to find out if it tilts at all. I will also look at your recommendations. The Aeron scares me because of the hard mesh seat and I'm a larger gal.
Please can you review the v1 and v2 models of the Steelcase Please? I think the shape is well suited for taller folks and there seems to be a wide range of adjustments.
I did the 2!

Did you have an initial upper back pain with the Amia when first using it? I'm also 5' 6" and while my lower back is fine after sitting for hours at time, I've found my upper back and sometimes neck have a decent amount of pain by the end of the day. I''m still on the 30 day return period, so I'm going to wait and see if it goes away but was wondering if this is normal?
Hm not for me, but I usually don’t get pain there
@@Ahnestly Thanks for the reply!
@@MrJackarow How is it now? I m getting mine v soon. if it doest not work just gonna settle w an Embody
I need some advice, I have had the Embody for a year and I had to sell it because I always had problems with my lower back, I took the perfect sayl in the back but the seat was slightly small and it caused pain in my butt. in general I hate pressure in my lower back because it causes me pain. Do you recommend this Amia?
The Amia is SUPER inoffensive. It doesn’t hug your back, no hard things prodding out. Really great and if you don’t like it, great return policy! If you decide to pick up, please consider using my links and let me know how it goes!!!
@@Ahnestly perfect and the seat how is ? I need it comfortable because sometime I have little pain in my prostatite
Seat is amazing, but a handful of people have commented it's a little stiffer. If you're coming from a cheap gaming chair, it feels stiffer, but it's pretty soft!
Does anyone else prefer desk chairs without any arms? I noticed it's an option to go armless if you buy it new and it reduces the price by almost $250.
Does that amia have the feature where it lets u remove the seat similar to the leap v2?
I had no idea the leap's seat could come off! I have not tried that!
@@Ahnestly I see . I had to use a long flathead screwdriver. Hope this helps.

How do you think the Amia will work with someone that’s had lumbar back surgery?
I think it’ll be amazing. Not aggressive, instead, cups and holds you nicely! Check it out and if you don’t like it, can just return! If you decide to pick up, please consider using my links. Helps the channel a LOT!
Do you think it’s worth $350 more than a Haworth Soji?
Which material is better Cogent or Era on amia?
Cogent is the higher quality one (Knitted) over the Era (Woven). The Cogent is much more breathable. For more info, check out my video with Crandall office (go to the Fabric time stamp)
ua-cam.com/video/mSZ8cwPdLG8/v-deo.html
Amia is 400lbs rated btw according to their website. Not 300lbs
How does this seat pad compare to the Leap V2 remanufactured by Crandall? I know the leap v2 cushion has been retooled?
I think the Amias stock feels really incredible. The Crandall office leap v2 pad is very thick and cushy, but it sits on top of the existing leap v2 seat pad and I don’t love the curved nature of the leap’s seat pad as much
@@Ahnestly thx for your sharing your insight, I think I'm going to go for the amia :))
Which do you prefer? Amia or haworth fern if budget is no issue?
I think a Fern offers a better overall package, but if you need just a great seat cushion, Amia baby
@@Ahnestly thanks, I have chronic upper back pain, which seems to be something that not many people have (only see people talk about lower back), I don't think there are any chairs that may help with that, only solution might be to work laying down horizontally
How does the back compare to the leap?
I think the Leap has a superior back (really hugs you in a unique way that no other chair really does). But, I found my back dying on the Leap, and I'm not sure why. Many people swear by the Leap v2!
Hope this helps, and if you decide to pick up, please consider using my links! Helps the channel a LOT!
I’m 5’3” but I want to make sure it doesn’t press against my lower back bone. Also, would a gaming chair be a better option for those who sit at a computer 10 hours or more a day?
I think this chair would have a higher chance of working for you. Steelcase does a ton of r&d on their chairs and gaming chairs are often designed for folks 5’6 and above! Also, Steelcase offers free returns within their return window, which is something many gaming chairs don’t offer! @@MasuOnce Thank you so much. This information was very helpful.
@@MasuOnce same problem for me , I sold my embody chair because it pushed my back side
Their warrenty policy overseas is such a shame. The 5 year warrenty in europe is the reason I skipped on Steelcase entirely/barely considered them: if you're competing with HM in price you need to either blow them out of the water comfort/features wise or at the very least match their warrenty. 5 year writeoff vs 12 years with similar prices is just extremely hard to justify.
I hear that and it’s a huge shame. I was reading the Reddit thread and that was ridiculous what they were saying about “simplifying” the warranty. Wtf does that even mean???!?!
@@Ahnestly Right? 😂
can you compare amia and hm aeron please?
IMHO...no contest. I love the Amia. Except for breathability, it feels like the Amia is just holding onto you
