I just ordered a Viggen speed build kit!!! I can't wait to build and fly it! If only the recommend edf was in stock. I will have to piece together my motor and ESC on my own. Thank you FT!
THANKS SO MUCH DAVID AND EVERYONE INVOLVED!!!!! cutting and sanding foam is so messy which stopped me from making one of these, now i can get one of these :)
PKMartin I don't think that it's actually a camera hanging off a plane. 1. I can't imagine what would happen to the CG if you did that to a plane! 2. I don't see the Control Surfaces deflect at all. It's like it's an empty plane (no electronics) hanging off a Quad Copter.
Tim Rice actually they have mounted a camera on the plane. Although removed it for the preview image in photoshop(or similar). Check the video :) you will like it!
Tim Rice It was normaly for gopros and those crazy people, search for FPV a change in perspective, or use this: watch?v=OgGsPaCVdjY It works great! And look cool as well. Anyway, thanks to David! Thank you for, well, basicly everything!
I built one of these back when the video was up. I spent many hours actually measuring with a ruler on my screen measuring in cm converting to inches...don't ask i did what I had to do lol but I came out with one of the most memorable flight experiences I've ever had an to this day I would do it all over again. I still have the original waiting for when my little one is old enough to fly. Thank you for sharing your knowledge knowledge with the public this design is phenomenal.

I've made prop cargo planes using 1x1 engines which is pretty big(btw it was not and actaul cargo plane of course it was life sized made of the dollar tree foam board david spoke about).
This plane is flying so great, that I never had a crash with it. It's my only and favorite FT EDF plane.... I built speed build kit according to the constructors advice, with 70mm edf, 60amp esc, 3000mAh. Absolutely amazing.
I remember for Christmas my wife got me 12 EDF Jets. Talk about a happy guy. Unfortunately she was not happy when I crashed 10 of them. Thank you so much for designing a EDF jet. I hope y'all do a lot more with Them
This plane is phenomenal… I just love it. I built around 5 Viggen 3 with the same dimensions and 2 128% bigger , the bigger one is so much better with90 mm EDF but the common problem in all of them is the lack of ventilation for the electronics. That is why I made ventilators for the last 3. Thnx David it’s a great plane.
I just wanted to tell you guys are AWESOME. I had no idea were to start in the rc hobby until I found your account. you really gave me a plantation to build off of and really appreciate the advice and help. now I own a bixler 2, an fms 1280 (similar to the bixler2 ), and I have scratch built the f22, ft flyer, a slow flyer made from the building techniqes from expiremental airlines, and I cant explain how helpful you are
A big thanks to the FliteTest team! You guys are a class act, and definite innovators and pillars of the R/C community! You guys make it fairly cheap and easy for beginners to get into flying, yet still have cheap and advanced planes as well. Job well done guys! I think it's safe to say no one can wait to see what you guys think of next! I own 2 of your planes so far ( spitfire and f-22 ) I will be ordering the Viggen tomorrow. If y'all ever make it to SouthEast Texas, give me a shout!
David NEEDS to come back!!!! A *JET FOR A BEGINNER!!???* YES! David did it. The stall control with Canards is excellent.... The WHOLE thing is well Designed!! The Thrust Vectoring bit in the middle was mind blowing!!!!
David, the ending with the afterburner was priceless!!! what a great looking jet. especially to be a speed build kit. thanks for your time and effort that you and everyone at FliteTest have put into these kits. they are truely awesome!
They are so fast and the look amazing. The one with the prop that moves with the altitude was so nimble. It looked like a jet doing 3D. David, keep up the good work👍🏼
OK so at 13:45 how do you get that video shot from the plane . What is that at up. A rod or somthing attached to camera to give a view like that PLEASE LET ME NO. ...CHAD DAVID THE 2 JOSHES SOMEONE LOL
Wow. You guys rock. The whole FT team is an asset to our hobby. Keep up the awesome designs and great videos. The positive, welcoming tone is so refreshing and badly needed in the world of RC flying. THANK YOU!
Fantastic! Flite test is without doubt one of the most important organisation in the RC world and once again they raise the bar! This aircraft is a real credit to David and the team!
One receiver, crisp please. =) What a beautiful looking plane. Do you have any info on the "dollar tree foam boards" you are using? Like thickness and or weight?
We use Adam's Readi Board, commonly referred to as "Dollar Tree Foam Board" because it is sold at the Dollar Tree for, well, $1 per 20x30" sheet. It is slightly heavier than Depron because of the paper lining but you can remove the paper much easier than Elmers foamboard to make it lighter. I hope this helps!
Rainy DayRC I'm in Germany, so I don't have access to a Dollar Tree :). That's why I wonder how thick the boards are (and perhaps the weight / sheet) so I can find something similar in our hobby shops. I'm new to this, so I don't know what people are using here.

Beautiful, David I commend you on the sacrificial nose. That was brilliant. If I ever design a Scratch build that will definitely make it into the design.
So can somebody explain what happened to the build video? Was it just some kid flagging a random video? Dang UA-cam, you need to fix your system because my stupid filter is fill of your crap!
David, Wow! It looks great and flies even better. You have taken FT in a whole new direction. You're a genius! I really liked the airborne camera on the plane. You're going to have to do an episode on how that rig works.
Richard Harris If only it was that easy. The only close equivalent to foam board here is quite expensive and needs to be shipped from the other side of the country. It's usually not at all worth the expense.
There are alternatives, perhaps not so good but close enough as this has a huge weight envelope - Corroflute for example - Often used in forsale signs. Insulation foam is available all over the world. There is a post in the tips on Foam board in Australia. At a push you could mod the design to use light ply and balsa. David has done all the hard work on the design.
Matthew Adams Welcome. If you go for corfflute then use tape to join. I got loads from a local estate agents sign man. He just gave me a bundle from the back of his van.

Great video David & company. About the fire on the plane, i believe is it due to the cold weather, the cold air blowing on the brass coil inside the plane's tail. Brass tubing already cools hot gasses making then liquid ( the Alembic principle ). So gas came back to liquid form & ignited. Sad ending for such a good plane, but it sure made some interesting material to film. Thnx

David's work with FT Viggen was one of his best. The Viggen is an awesome RC subject and one of the best flying EDF's I have flown.
thumbs up for using the metric system
