I love that Ko-ken ratchet! Bought the same deal at the beginning of this month - delivered from Japan in 8 days. FYI, the Z series 72 tooth part numbers begin with 37XX and the 36 tooth are 27XX.
Great video CP and that’s a slick way of measuring the back drag!! I’m definitely going to pick me up one of those Koken 72 tooth ratchets for sure! Thanks again buddy your the best!
I got the same ratchet a week ago didn't know it was the 72 tooth version in the picture it show a one piece paw thanks for the info your my favorite tool guy on UA-cam.
Hello Fellow Toolhaulics and Friends: CP, It was great seeing Henry at the beginning of the video. Nice straight competition trigger on your Glock + 3.5 lb pull very sexy. I gave the same Lynan pull gauge for my hyperfire AR triggers. Another great video sir. My best to you & Henry as always, TMP from N.J.
I bought the Capri 3 pack for 99$. I have to says all three sizes have great back drag. The 3/8 drive is one of my favorite ratchet’s. Unbelievable value.
@@CPthetooladdict I’ve spent at least 10 grand based on your explanation and comparison of a tool haven’t even used 98% of them but I’m still watching your videos and buying stuff. I don’t buy stuff people promote. Can’t trust them. If it’s not you or Jude I don’t bother.

Awesome Vid! I just got the same Koken 3725Z yesterday. Like you said $45.00 and like you, i am blown away at how good this thing is! I want a flex head now!!!! lol
I love the my Ko-ken but i wish they had a bolt to tighten the fork like snap-on does. i don't like how freely the head moves around. I do now use all koken for my solid style ratchets and bought the stahlwille for my locking flex heads. Great tools at great prices.
CP, grind a small notch into the plastic thingy where your guage wire can engage - so it is the exact same distance for each ratchet you are testing - its varring from anvil to pull position and will give false results (ie stronger pull closer to anvil and less pull farther away) - oh, just bought two koken 3/8 flex just now - 72T and 36T
I get so tempted to pull the trigger on a koken ratchet after seeing your vids, BUT I usually don’t get black colored tools because I know I’ll lose them out in the job field where I work(industrial). Maybe I can rig an apple air tag or gps tracker on it lol!
Bought the 280mm flex head 3/8 72 tooth ratchet around Christmas. Love this ratchet. Got it from techschoice tools. (No affiliation) hoping they come out with the 1/4” 72 tooth soon.
Starting to think I might be getting addicted. This video came out yesterday, and my new koken just showed up an hour ago today. P.S. Thanks, C.P. you're the best P.P.S. No one tell my wife.😂
@CP The Tool Addict Can't thank you enough for all the awesome information and honest reviews you give, or for always making me laugh even on a bad day. Not only do I love the ratchet, but instantly knew it just went from an impulse buy on a good deal to the start of a collection. 😆
i bought the same liken ratchet a few weeks ago, love it!! feels amazing, like butter! I have also put some good use to it, and pretty durable. I thought it would not be as the backdrag is so light. Recentlty bought an olsa ratchet and that also has some greta action to it. Not as light backdrag, but still feels great!!
Hey CP can you do a vid about the best Snap ring pliers??? Like Mac or snap on or whoever, I actually have one that’s a Sunex but I can find a whole set
That's not true. Supposedly, they machine the 72 tooth to accept the floating pawl, and that does void the warranty. Please don't spread this rumor any further.
Thought they were double the $45, that's why I never considered them? Thanks for sharing, CP. Glad I returned the 2 Icon's? Now there's no excuse to not buy the Koken's? You would have to be an absolute idiot, to chose any Icon, over the Koken's? The Icon 3/8" short ratchet was like $45, also. It's a no-brainer, now?
Has anyone tried swapping the course tooth out for the fine tooth? I’m just curious if they actually fit and they are just saying you can’t switch them so you need to buy a new ratchet.
I should have known you’d be a Glock fan boy lol, all joking aside I love your videos. I’ve been buying a ton of Stahlwille and Hazet lately (gotta love that German quality) but now I’m pretty stoked to give Koken a shot.
@@CPthetooladdict brother if you’re willing to stain your name by buying one, you may as well call yourself a fan boy, lol. (Seriously though, I’m only teasing you.) I will admit that I’m just a big fan of the 1911 platform, they just make more sense to me personally.
I think you might consider taking the measurement closer to the anvil. As long as they are measured consistently might not make as much difference however.
Somebody tested with a seekonk 1/4 torque screwdriver and that seemed like a pretty good acurate reliable and simple method. They're not that cheap for what they are though.
This ratchet and others from Koken seem to be great for low clearance applications. It would not be a regular workhorse for me in the way an american tool truck ratchet would be. This ratchet would be used for Nissan FWD water pumps and thermostats, spark plugs, valve cover gaskets on Subarus and Porsches. It would also have uses in exotic V8, V10 and V12 applications due to the low clearances these vehicles present. But, it would not be a regular workhorse due to potential difficulties in rebuild/exchange.
I recommend buying a dial torque screwdriver for this test. Works like a charm and are great for scope rings and gun work so not a waste of money for someone with your hobbies.
Believe it or not my tekton ratchets have a crazy low back drag better than my USA ratchets. They also do have 1” extensions I don’t know why that comment disappeared.
I’m not a fan of the Capri ratchets. I bought every ratchet they offered in each drive about 2 years ago. What I don’t like about them is they are all the 72 tooth ratchets. They also have a lot of back drag. Tons of it so you can’t get into tight spots and I work industrial maintenance so I could imagine being a car mechanic that needs something every day for a tight spot. I like the 90 tooth proto ratchets and the 120 xp gear wrench ratchets. I do see you have the comfort grip Capri ratchet which wasn’t offered at the time I purchased mine. At least I don’t think. I haven’t tried the Koken ratchets yet.

All those tools are new , not in use which changes back drag. Your test is inaccurate, your plastic adapter is like a torque adapter and as you display your test it's improperly tested.
