I have that exact ratchet. It is now my favorite fixed head 3/8 drive. The quality is absolutely fantastic. I went back and ordered all 3 sizes of pinless swivels and finger spinners to try and fell in love with those, too. I'll be ordering Koken now whenever I can afford it. BTW, you can only use oil in the head because the spring pressure from the pawl to the anvil is so low that any grease will not let the teeth engage. I use a high-quality silicone oil in mine regularly.
@@shadow7796 glad to see you like them as well. The pawl design is amazing and the backdrag is the best. I’ve got a couple others on the way so stay tuned. 😉
Great video those Koken ratchets are fantastic I really like the knurled handle style. Try out a Tone 3/8 ratchet it has the smallest head I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing
Koken make good quality stuff.Back in 2010 bought in Italy an Attack Driver Set (AN318A) for about 70-75$ ,have to admit it's well made and worth it every penny..✨👍 Nice Vid 🌟
I'm glad i found this video. I had one on order that was the 36tooth design! Had to cancel it immediately after watching this. I was after the 72t version. Found it, for twice the price ha. Will be my first ko-ken tool
The 36T Koken definitely doesn’t sound anything like a Craftsman ratchet ! They are silky smooth and great for higher torque applications and general use. Also, Koken explicitly states not to oil/grease the Z series internals. There’s only a bit of oil between the plate and body, along the perimeter. Oil will cause the pawl to hang-up and subsequently, the gear to slip. Their engineers are brilliant.
Oh I doubt they sound just like a craftsman. Nothing sounds that bad. Just the closest direct example in tooth count I had at my fingertips. Yea the key to finer tooth ratchets is a thin oil👍🏻
People worrying about how "sAtiSfYiNg" their ratchet sounds is like the people who watch keyboard reviews to see which one has the "mOsT sAtiSfYiNg tHoCk" sound. Soooo beta.
Also worth checking out for high torque applications. This one is a TANK! Koken 4749N-380 1/2 (12.7 mm) SQ. Long Ratchet Handle (Knurled Grip), Total Length 15.0 inches (380 mm)
My two most commonly used 3/8ths ratchets are this one (with the push button release), and the Wera Zyklop rotohead. Both are great, and the funny thing is I almost never use my Snap-on 3/8ths.
I have replaced all my sockets and ratchets with Koken. You're missing out if you don't pair the ratchet with their Zeal sockets. It's really a system and using non-Koken sockets defeats most of what they advertise is their advantage over other brands.
@thingsmen it's the tight fit and no slop between the socket and ratchet that's not seen on other brands. The Zeal line work together more effectively. This goes to aid the low back drag when working in tight, and awkward spaces. Most of the Koken Zeal lineup is marketed towards tight, hard to reach automotive spaces with precision. Great small family owed brand. I live in Japan currently and have replaced the vast majority of my stuff with Koken. KTC Nepros is worth looking at, too, if exploring the Japanese brands is new to you.
@@GarenP Not greatly different but will often be cheaper by a few dollars, with larger sets being more so. The advantage is the online auctions sites where some good deals are found. Koken isn't commonly found in hardware stores, KTC and other lower end Japanese or Chinese made tools lead in that area. I can only think of two places you'll find Koken in person and only one sells the higher end Zeal line and at those places prices are more or less the same as the states.

2:45.. they're satin finished.. like matte but not matte..satin☝️
This wrench has a chrome finish. It does appear to have a slight discoloration near the handle though.
If they sealed the head with o-rings, that would effect the backdrag.

Your thumbs-up counter does not appear to work when clicked. The number remains at "0".
That’s odd. Maybe restart the app and try again. I appreciate your support!
If the sky would stop smacking his lips and being distracting in that manner, this video might be worth listening to
Maybe watch some more. I’m hopeful the sky won’t interfere with those. 👍🏻
