      What were the tusk weights of the Angola elephant?
      Apparently tuskless males do rarely exist, known as Buda's in the early hunting days by some. They were supposed to be larger than normal, the suggestion being the energy growing tusks was diverted to body size. And to be more bad tempered. They had a ball of ivory where the tusk roots lie in the skull. And somewhere in one of those balls of Ivory, one might find the fabled Elephant Stone the legend went.

      There are some conservationists who dye the tusks of elephants with natural dyes to make the ivory worthless. It is something that needs to be more widespread.

    Truely tragic stories for those big elephants. The biggest of any species always get looked at as some next big status symbol if someone kills them. Never understood the appeal, but i do hope we can help save these animals, as well as many others. Always a treat to see your videos pal.

    • @CalvinTheCarnotaurus
      @CalvinTheCarnotaurus 2 місяці тому +1

      The appeal probably exists in saying you defeated something absolutely humongous in size, although I think that status has been washed down over the years from impressive to nothing.
      I know someone who said that when they were younger they always wanted to hunt the Big Five of Africa, however they later realized that its not really all its cracked up to be.
      Like I said to them, back in the years of black powder rifles that took anywhere from 20 seconds to a minute to reload it'd be an impressive feat, however modern firearms are far more advanced and you can easily kill stuff from far away with them and have way better accuracy.

    • @CalvinTheCarnotaurus
      @CalvinTheCarnotaurus 2 місяці тому

      @@KhanMann66 Lol. Nah man. Real men are strong enough to use their bare hands to show an animal who the real alpha is.
      In saying that for laughs, I think someone actually killed a leopard with their hands. The animal lunged and he threw his arm up for protection, and it went straight down the cat's throat. His arm got lodged in its throat and the leopard died from suffocation.

    Yeah stories like jumbo and tilikum the killer whale, kindly to me being really on the fence about captivity overall. Which is sad because zoos can do amazing work in breeding as well as studying animals however it almost makes me wonder if that good is worth it considering the damage that is done in the past two animals like jumbo

    • @aff77141
      @aff77141 2 місяці тому

      The problem is all regulation centric. An animal like an elephant or orca should never be alone in an enclosure, rather a reserve, while other animals can get by so long as they have proper enrichment. But no wild animal should be captive to begin with unless necessary for their health or the species survival.

    Epic! Also interestingly there is a photo of a skull of an African elephant with four tusks.
    Also whoa! African elephants are awesome, 11 tons that’s Colombian mammoth sized.
    Also wonder how large Chinese allligators got in historical times? Also dwarf crocodile species in certain countries seem to have sizes larger than reported in the species it would seem, there are three distinct species currently known. Also interestingly there is a photo of a 19 foot west African crocodile crocodylus suchus from Gambia.

      @@eliletts8149 whoa! That’s actually quite incredible, a 10 foot alligator is pretty large already, so a Chinese alligator that size would be quite awesome to see! Also wonder how much more broader it’s skull would be at that size, even more robust snout, and preying on larger prey items, and digging more larger burrows. There was also historically besides the Chinese alligator in China, there was also populations of saltwater crocodile and even a giant species of gharial related to the Malayan gharial that went extinct during the Bronze Age. Here was a paper on it and it got 6m!

      @@southernafricanboy4148 Ummm..... African elephants have been tamed, and used in captivity for thousands of years. Probably the most famous of these were Hannibal's 'War Elephants', which came from a now extinct population of African elephants.
      African elephants can be tamed just as easily as Asian elephants. It's just that places like circuses, zoos, and other exhibits, prefer Asian elephants because they are smaller(by comparison).
      And Jumbo was DEFINITELY and African elephant. It's clear as day.
