The history of that album is so interesting.
After a Saint-Vitus concert in Seattle in January 1986, Kim Thayil and Buzz Osborn of The Melvins went to Mark Arm (Green River/Mudhoney) appartement to play some guitar, and Buzz showed Kim how to do a Drop-D tuning. It changed Kim life and the sound of Soundgarden. One year later, they played live on KCMU radio and Jonathan Poneman, founder of Subpop heard them and they became one of the first band on SubPop. He paid them to record with Jack Endino the single Hunted Down and later, they recorded the rest of what would be released in october 87 as Screaming Life. This album was the first to make the ``Seattle sound``popular. This is how it started.
At the same time, Kurt Cobain, a close friend of Buzz Osborn, was really impressed by the Screaming Life EP, and it was a big influence in November-January 87, when he wrote and recorded the first 10 demos that would eventually become Bleach (Floyd the Barber, Paper Cut, Downer). Kurt put the Soundgarden sticker on his first Fender Mustang.
Jack Endino had produced Screaming Life, so Kurt wanted him to do something similar for Nirvana. Jack Endino only agreed because Dale Crover of the Melvins was drumming for Nirvana at the time. Kurt agreed to sign with SubPop because he liked Soundgarden so much. The rest is history, but keep in mind that Screaming Life was a major influence on the history of rock.
Acid punk, zen metal ,psychodelic blues .....no words to describe this genius band!!!
Grunge too.
Awesome group
Soundgarden is one of those bands where EVERY single member is a master of their instrument and musical style.
So true
true!
Kim is so underrated, he routinely plays things that sound like random gibberish. It takes serious talent to write these on purpose, remember and perform them.
Yep! Like Zeppelin. 😎👍
No lo pudiste haber dicho mejor. Sí, eso mismo. Christopher era profesional en la voz, Kym en la guitarra, Matt en la batería, y nuestro querido Hiro en el bajo.
R.I.P Chris Cornell, you've always been one of my favorite vocalist and you'll be greatly missed, thank you for all the great tunes you left us...
One of the great voices of Our time
I still can’t believe he’s gone after all this time, even Lanegan hasn’t registered yet. Chris was the greatest of them all though. He was also a massively underrated guitar player, listen to any of his solo demos or the acoustic Like Suicide. The guy was no slouch,he could really play but he was just so humble
Chris Cornell awesome Singer sad he passed away May Chris Cornell RIP 💐

We need more of soundgarden from this era
beatlevana5 according to Kim there is a lot of recorded but unreleased material from pre Screaming Life that they plan on releasing on Sub Pop!
That's awesome news
beatlevana5 now with the unfortunate and untimely death of Chris expect these type of releases to be imminent. I welcome them but wish it wasn't under these circumstances
Cewyah I know that this comment is old but there are people trying to make good music. Hell even I try but I suck :P
Need more in general. Could always use more Cornell talent. RIP
The dynamic range of vocals, the emotional spectrum of tone and illuminated lyrics of Chris Cornell. Alive by collective memories and you listening now.
What a voice! Unmatched! Couldn't believe what a great ep I found years ago when I did ! Love it all ! RIP Chris - what an incredible talent !
Really must be listened to through good headphones. Those dueling guitars are genius. Hard panned left/right. This is righteous. Merry Christmas.
What rock album doesn't have guitar panned hard left and right? there probably aren't any.
I feel I found something good that I didn't know - how cool is that?
Jack Endino genius. Me like Endino very much
@@chrischoir3594 High Rise II doesn't
@@voidburner8271 yeah and no one has even heard of that record
Remember a friend lending me this EP. I knew Chris and his band were powerful than. What a run. We love you Chris! God bless his family and friends.
Thanks for the memories Chris. This album opened my eyes. "I've got nothing to say."
This was always the 'real' Soundgarden for me. Such a shame I didn't get to see them in a club as on the Louder Than Live video... queued up with a ticket when they toured Badmotorfinger in '92 but was too young to get in!!! Managed to see them a few times in the UK over the next couple of years though. RIP Chris 🙏🏼❤
I saw them on that tour at the Country Club in Reseda, CA - Prong opened and VoiVod headlined.
No way @@dmitryowens 😯Must have been awesome in such an intimate venue... If you haven't already seen it someone's recently uploaded a much better quality version of the film than the one that's been on UA-cam for a few years now ua-cam.com/video/C-0cS4d296g/v-deo.html
I saw Soundgarden twice in 1992, once in 1993, solo Chris in 1999, Audioslave in 2003 and Soundgarden again in 2014 all incredible shows! 👍
Nice @@effdonahue6595👌 ...saw them supporting Guns N' Roses on the Use Your Illusion Tour at Wembley with FNM but like I say would have loved to have been at a club gig in '92.
@@OmarAnthony the first time I saw them in ‘92 was in a club on Lansdown Street next to Fenway Park called Avalon
Super metal prog grunge hard psychedelic rock.........the soundgarden was all those things and more...the virtuoso drums...the colorful bass lines, the inventive style guitar riffs...and that powerful and beautiful voice. What a powerhouse rock band

What a loss. I have the the original EP, given to me from my older brother about 27 year ago. It's on display in my dining room. He gave it to me & said "it's the best thing since Zeppelin" I was dumb & played it in 33 instead of 78 & thought "WTF?" until my big brother again enlightened me. When they returned to tour, I bought 10 tickets to the Jones Beach show & took my brother my 2 sons & 6 of their friends to witness. I also bought 5 tickets & took my daughter & her friend & my younger son & his friend (his 1st show ever!) to see them in Philadelphia. Best money I ever spent aside from Temple of the Dog in November. a bright spot amidst the Presidential election.
coolriver66 to envy you so much you seen them and the temple of dog food shit man you should be proud hope you kept your tickets
What a great way to get political for no reason.
You are a very wise man.
coolriver66
Big brother's are way-cool.

Just some early twenty-somethings living out their angst and recording an EP amongst like-minded peers in a moment that would determine the fate of alternative music for the next decade. No big deal.
Absolutely mind blowing. 🤯 God bless the next generation who is able to live this free with such expression of raw emotion.
I always come back to this one by Soundgarden ..
great band,great singer,rip...from Italy
aandreaa0000 you are beutiful
Damn wish I still had this EP - sold it for seven bucks(kid you not, the dude said “that’s a little high, isn’t it?“ And I was actually getting a deal!) in 89 for food, jfc times were different … saw these guys… ‘88 or ‘89, 35 people at the show, I just remember being in awe of the maturity of this unknown underground band, it was different from the other bands. Never knew in a million years they would get as big as they got, though
1. Hunted Down
They saw you today as you were leaving
And they run to hunt you down
Dogs lead the chase as you are bleeding
They run to hunt you down
Your narrow escape
Has wiped the smile right from your face
Those starved dogs howling
Run to hunt you down
You smile as you look in the mirror
Tears have left your eyes
Your face has a different exterior
Permanent disguise
Your narrow escape
Has wiped the smile right from your face
Those starved dogs howling
Run to hunt you down
I said run just to hunt you down
Right now, right now, right now, right now
2. Entering
I'm entering without a sound
I'm entering on wings I've flown
A million miles of covered ground
I'm entering
Entering
I'm entering yeah yeah
I'm entering without a sound
I'm entering on wings I've flown
A million miles of covered ground
I'm entering, I'm entering
I'm entering yeah
I'm entering bleeding hearts, two lights, goodness, stable
Glass on bars won't hold me back
Without a sound or a thought
I'm entering
I'm entering oh yeah without a sound
I'm entering, entering
On wings I've found
A million, million miles, a million miles
Well I'm entering, entering, entering, entering, entering, entering yeah
3. Tears to Forget
These tears to remember
These tears to forget
I tried and I cried
These tears to forget
I suckle life
Its love and its beauty
I scream from life
These tears to remember
These tears to forget
I tried to cry away
These tears
4. Nothing to Say
Nothing, nothing, nothing but the one thing
Someone said my words are out of balance
Nothing to say, you've got nothing to say
Dying words I bury everyday
Nothing to say, I've got nothing to say
Nothing but the one thing
You've got nothing, nothing to say
Nothing but the one thing
Big bad word spell it with four letters
Nothing to say, you've got nothing to say
Oh my god, your words are out of balance
Nothing to say, you've got nothing to say
Nothing but the one thing
Nothing
Nothing
You've got nothing, nothing to say
Nothing but the one thing
Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing
5. Little Joe
Little Joe, run for the border
Leave your home
Leave your mother and father
Go where the reptiles roam
On the side of the border that is your home
Little Joe, eyes of your lover look back on you
As you run for cover
Though stick and fire and may break your bones
There's a light in the tunnel that leads you home
Little Joe, just like your father
Your eyes will water, your guts will splatter
Though sticks and fire, sticks and fire
Won't break your bones, it is a lie
Little Joe, run for the border
Leave your mother and father
Go to where the reptiles roam
They're waiting for you, Little Joe
6. Hand of God
Now I would like friends if this evening
We should stand there with all other of God's
Creatures on the curbstone and watch this
March of time. Let us take our stand with them
And as we stand there I here one of them whispering
He is a Hebrew sage, he says 'vanity of vanities the
Whole thing is a vain parade. It has no meaning'
The hand of God lays high above me
I'll be so good if you really love me
Let me feel your mighty crunch
As you rub me out like water, fire, coal, etc.
Let it be known today, if you got two hands
You're supposed to pray
Fingers of fire, coal, and lead
Fondly love me 'til I'm dead
The hand of God is thick and callous
Bruised and torn from stones and sticks
The hand of God has got a ring about the size of Texas
Made of sweet, smelly stuff
My fingers never smell
Let me try on your hand and see if it fits
Don't worry I won't touch anything unholy with it
Let it be known today, if you got two hands
You're supposed to pray
7. Sub Pop Rock City
I'm not stoned but I wanted to tell ya
When I'm in the mood, I could think of playing there
Going to Seattle where the rock's so heavy
With all them sex dogs in my Chevy
At the XTC, party, everybody's invited
Cool! give it dude, we're plastic like you
Going to a show, rock's all night
And everyone I hate is at the party tonight
I said Sub Pop Rock City
Hello
(Jonathan Poneman) This is Jonathan
Hey Jon
(JP) I just want to know, what the heck's going on?
Well you know, I have this problem
(JP) What the heck's going on?
Yah, okay, well do you think you'd have too much trouble if we got rid of
our sideburns?
(JP) At your earliest convenience
Well, I know you've said that before, but do you think Bruce would mind?
(Bruce Pavitt) This is Bruce Pavitt
Bruce, I mean, kay, could we have our dollar back Bruce?
(BP) Bye
8. Fopp (Ohio Players cover)
Fopped last night and the night before
I had to fopp outside and then I went indoors
Fopped so hard, I made the people warm
They stood back and gave me all the floor
I did the fopp, the fopp
They wouldnt let me stop
Yeah, I was foppin and rockin
Had the whole house hoppin
Foppin
The way it makes you go, everybody was
Foppin
Everywhere you go do all your
Shoppin
And wiggle to the floor, everybody was foppin
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Fopp with me and I'll fopp with you
Foppin is the brand new thing to do
Fopped so hard that I lost my shoe
I fopped so tough, they had to make some room, yeah
Break your leg, don't you fopp your back
Do your thing, don't you give no slack
Shake your hips and then you turn around
Well, first you fopp it up and then you fopp it down
Fopp me right, don't you fopp me wrong
Well be here foppin all night long, baby
I'm too short, baby, and you're too tall
But when we're foppin that don't mean a thing at all, yeah
Foppin
The way it makes you go, everybody was
Foppin
So everywhere you go do all your
Shoppin
And wiggle to the floor, everybody was foppin
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Fopp and rock, fopp and rock
Fopp and rock, fopp and rock
Fopp and rock, fopp and rock
Fopp and rock, fopp and rock
9. Fopp (Fucked up Heavy dub mix)
10. Kingdom of Come
So you think I got something on you
I bet I know what you're gonna do
I'm asking me and talking blue yeah
Fill your head
With crazy sound
It ain't as pretty coming out
Yeah
So glad to see you're at it again
So glad I ain't your only friend
When are you going to understand yeah
It's okay
Maybe now
It ain't as pretty coming out
Yeah, yeah
Fill your head
With crazy sound
It ain't as pretty coming out
Yeah
Yes
11. Swallow my pride (Green River cover)
She looked at me with dignity
She said there's something you gotta see
Even though this country's headed for war
This nation is prouder than ever before
Yeah that was spirit in the air
We're more American than anywhere
And I just smile cause I could tell
This little girl was going to
Hell
Now I wouldn't mind
If you swallowed my pride
Make me feel alright
Yeah now deep inside
Feel alright
Hey, all the warmth in her heart
Couldn't keep my blood from running cold
Cause I fell for her looks
Now I want to go for her throne
I tried to tell her a thousand times
But little girl didn't understand at all
Now I wouldn't mind
If you swallow my pride
Make me feel alright
Yeah now deep inside
Feel alright
Alright
You can swallow my pride
Now I wouldn't mind
If you swallowed my pride
Make me feel alright, deep inside
Feel alright
Pride... pride... pride
You can swallow my pride
Thanks for your effort!

This record came out 30+ years ago and it's still badass 🤘
Absolutely love this album 🙌🏿
had this on cassette in high school, back in 93. sounds just as fresh today.
This music will always stand the test of time.... R.I.P. Chris.
i cant believe Chris is physically gone! i missed my chance 2 see them here in town a few years ago (Hollywood Bowl) but surprisingly PBS station taped it! RIP Chris, your voice will not B forgotten...
Has everyone quit paying their f'n respects? I haven't. I f'n LOVE YOU CHRIS!
Nope, I am 40 something and every morning I wake up to a antique poster properly framed and tell him how much I freaking miss him. Voice like no other, looks to kill, deeply missed. Wish that widow would give up the music for the guys to make sure that it gets heard. They were his band lots longer than she was his wife. I blame her. She was last one to speak to him. What did she say when he told her that he took one, two??? At his age he was not going to rehab again. To difficult. Bet she has Nothing to say about her words, at least truthfully. Only she knows.
lol i keep meaning to get a chris t-shirt but haven't ordered it yet
I would like to thank the owner of this channel because de video isn't full of advertising, thanks a lot ❤
A huge part of my childhood is gone. R.I.P. :'(
a huge part of my LIFE is gone......
RIP Chris! An absolute Rock legend!
This is gold... good riffs, voice, a bit of funk, damn...
I can hear so well the influence that this record had on Kurt Cobain during the Bleach period.
So true Chris also said bleach had a big influence on the music scene too
They all did on each other, for me it’s mostly in the riffs. I can hear Green River, TAD, Skin Yard - there was a bit of friendly rivalry for those guys with Soundgarden. Read Everybody Loves Our Town by Mark Yarm, highly recommend it.
Yeah and even Nevermind in the guitar riffs/tone/FX pedal. And dynamics and even a little of the vocal approach.
Nothing to say.
Me too. They even played together back in 1988.
Happy Heavenly Birthday Chris! We love and miss you everyday!!!!!
I liked their Louder than Love days, and this proves it.
Hunted Down and Nothing to Say had a big impact on my musical formation. Thanks Guys
I was playing in a Hollywood Sleaze / hair metal band when this came out. A radio station guy gave me this and Ultramega OK. I knew Seattle was gonna blow up but no way I coulda predicted what actually did happen
RIP Chris Cornell, what a unexpected dead, we'll miss you and your voice
Beautiful album.
Thank God for SUB POP! R.I.P. Chris. THANKS 4 AWESOME MUSIC!
Naturally derived micro-scrubbers. Thanks Head & Shoulders for sponsoring, perfect opening act!!! Now i will get my Chilllzzz on
Wow!awesome album ep...I had this on vinyl over a decade ago and my ex boyfriends friend from work borrowed it but misplaced this...I had a backup on cd and tape ....back in the day I bought all my music at an independent record store in Virginia over the years... then traveled to new York near Rochester brockport often to find records such as hard to find... I love soundgarden in general...I saw them live in 2011 in alexandria va...same friend that lost my record drive us there and his girlfriend....I need to start my music memorabilia sometime again...not to be stingy but I learned no one's perfect...❤ this album is kind of funny in ways
Sound Garden a awesome group and Chris Cornell a awesome singer, sad he passed away May Chris Cornell RIP 💐
Listen to those pipes...rip Chris.
I've never heard this. This is really outstanding. I love the hints of psychedelic sound in it. My stuff is psychedelic that I play...it's hard to get it right. I've always loved these guys.
I am the newest Soundgarden fan 😊
I'm a huge Cornell/Soundgarden fan, but I somehow never listened to a lot of these songs. Little Joe and Sub Pop Rock City are awesome! RIP Chris 💔

My new neighbor whom I'd never met came beating on my door. I answered the door, expecting the worst. He said " can you please crank that up". I crankedto the max😂
this sounds really good. at least i got to see them once
Chris Cornell was the best singer of the Seattle scene,no one's gonna be like him anymore 😢
Andrei Tataru
Don't let the Vedder fanboys catch you saying that
Check out the band Sasquatch. Someone is just like him.
Full Albums Kick Ass i will reply with saying there is no best for me i like vedder, staley, weiland, shandon, cornell etc for different reasons and i'll favor each of them on different days. They're all extremely talented.
"No one sings like you anymore..."
Cornell, Staley, Lanegan! My trilogy! the 3 for me are the best ... but I like Ben Mcmillan a lot!
Waow, I didn't know these two EP's. Thank you Sub Pop! =)
I swear it is!!!
back n da day~!
Amazing EP
this is simply awesome !
Though I've never been a huge fan of Soundgarden I've always admired their sound, especially Chris Cornell's vocals. I'm ashamed to say that I'm only now hearing this particular album for the first time.
El mejor álbum de Soundgarden.
7:38 that vocal

Little Joe has a similar sound as my favorite song by SG "Uncovered". Love it.
been listening Soundgarden long time, this is new stuff for me ears!! (a roquear se dijo... )
Escucho S L / F todos los días, nunca me aburro
Love you, Chris.
I have seen Soundgarden 4 times and they are so amazing. Back in 1992 I saw them play Fopp and I was in shock!

I ❤ SoundGardeN.
And here i thought Ultramega OK was the first album until i discovered this.
RIP Chris
Nothing to say is a timeless peice ✊🏽😌🕊️
Little joe sounds like rhcp song😊
Hiro slapping the bass!!😀
RIP, Chris.
Wow, his voice on the first song foreshadows Jeff Buckley's vocal style a lot.
I just mean their voices sound surprisingly similar.
In Hunted Down I can hear Dave Mustaine as I hear Chris Cornell.
THIS SHIT FUCKING ROCKS
Sick!!! 🍻🍻🍻🤘🤘🤘🤘
Unpopular opinion: Screaming Life/Fopp > Ultramega OK
both are equally great
rip Chris cornell
Another genius not for this earth. These were the days....
He just needed a close friend! I would hope someone could of saved him! Feel so selfish but am heartbroken in his death.
you are the full package, oops I mean in music.
Me too
Nicoletta De Bellis who is singing at the beginning of the first song?
Oh, he was for this earth. We needed him, he never needed us. This earth wasn’t for him.
RIP Chris. 4 years.
My favorite Soundgarden release, next comes Badmotorfinger.
Can't u tell SG were listening to talking heads at the this time and especially little Joe u get that TH vibe
The REAL Soundgarden.
I'd tell you to fuck off but it seems like you did that right after you commented this. You seem like you aren't a fan of a change of any kind in music. As an autistic person who can't function as well if my routine is changed, I can kind of see where you're coming from. You're totally missing out on good music though.
Soundgarden is soundgarden
What exactly is the fake Soundgarden?
.This music is timeless, Could have very well been a seventies Band.
I never expected to lose the strongest
On 'Hunted Down' Chris is mimicking Ben McMillan of Skin Yard.
Rip to Ben from gruntruck and skin yard
Really? How do you know that?
The guitarist locks exactly like joe pancakes no joke he does.
Hunted Down, Nothing To Say
Yep
