How high is your action? I don't play a lot of slide but when I do, I make sure to knock every fret available.

Earl Hookers name should be mentioned here. A fair amount of those melodies came from his guitar too.
Hooker was the King. Love his "Blue Guitar," which Willie Dixon wrote "You shook me," and Muddy sang over the instrumental track. Also Muddy's "You need love" with Hooker killing it!!!
