I knew Garth (real name Davies, Welsh by blood) quite well. I was Pete's guest at 54 Radcliffe Road Bolton. Garth would threaten to kill me. He was extremely jealous, particularly after alcohol. The band would rehearse in the basement at Radcliffe Road in 1975.
    Happy times!

      Jealous of what? xx

@@BoudicaJ Garth was openly gay. Whether he is now I don't know.
Pete and I shared a bedroom - separate beds, no sexual contact - but Garth put two and two together and made five.

Garth Davies was suffering from sexual jealousy.
We was taken to Bolton General where was (wrongly) diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Strange to hear all this! I played rugby for a few years with Garth and he was a happily married family man with kids. He had lost a little hair, gone grey (with a beard and glasses) and acquired quite a bit of timber since these clips - he was an effective prop forward. Very quiet, humorous and polite. I'm a lover of between-song banter on live albums and this is one of the greatest examples I've ever heard. He seems to have been airbrushed out of the Buzzcocks' history - it's very hard to find any references to him anywhere.
      (RIP Pete)

I've seen Buzzcocks play in every line up.....except with Garth. So, hopefully off to see him with Young Once in the near future. Proper punk attitude!

That Leeds debacle was in 1977 as it happens. Apparently Pete walked on wearing a Manchester United jersey, which didn't go down well... 😂

Great stuff.....love Garth's accent too, he sorta sounds like 'The Dynamite Kid' when he used to grab the mic' at the end of a hard-won bout!

I was at that gig and remember also it was the first time I'd seen John Cooper Clarke. Best winning over an audience slot I've ever seen , gx

What happened? Is it the bass player yelling? I've had that album for 30 years and always thought it was Diggle yelling. Does he throw down his bass? And why were they playing Angelo?

@@andyplatt5251 the amplification went off after a couple of numbers. Garth got in a row with the audience while it was being sorted out, ( it's him shouting). Diggle was playing Angelo by way of light relief. I seem to recall at least one of the band wearing a Man utd shirt which didn't go down well in Leeds. Shelley led them off shortly after the restart because of spitting. To be honest Garth was a pain in the bum that night.

@@gordonwhitelock4349 I live in Fort Worth so I never got to be involved in that scene. I only got to see the Sex Pistols and Buzzcocks reunion shows. I really appreciate that you took the time to answer my question.

@@andyplatt5251 you're welcome Andy. It was certainly a night to remember. I was lucky to see the Sex Pistols ( Fforde Greene pub in Rounday, Leeds) and Buzzcocks at the Polytechnic early on. There was also a great club called the F Club at various venues around the city that featured lots of the early punk and new wave bands.

@@gordonwhitelock4349 I wish I could have been there. Some friends of mine went over to see the Buzzcocks. They said while they were in line they recognized the singer and drummer of the Only Ones. One guy said they were in the balcony for the show and it was so rocking he thought the whole thing was going to come crashing down.
