Everytime I think about how Jay met the band as a kid, dressed as one of the band in a cosplay. And now he’s fucking drumming for them. It makes me so very happy.
The thing that I like the most about Jay’s playing is how he doesn’t sacrifice power for speed. This is exactly how metal drummers should be playing.
On the subject of clicks, I still think it's insane that Car Bomb can play what they do live without a click
Making a click track to their songs is probably more work than playing them 🤷♀ lol
@@jannik-x facts. even if you can count their songs correctly most of it is down to muscle memory.
Pretty sure at least their first 2 albums were recorded without a click too
dude carbomb just think in binary. they don't have the same brains as normies do
they do WHAT now
Very consistent drummer. Great replacement for Joey and serves the songs very well. Also was great to see ya in Brighton last week hottie, picked up the Stray vinyl xx
He can play the parts Joey wrote, but his creativity isn't really on par with Joey's, especially regarding all aspects of songwriting. Joey and Paul wrote a LOT of the classics
@@sahinlandman4667 I don't know, his parts for WANYK and the new record were pretty solid in my opinion. Plus he doesn't particularly get a say in most of the song writing since Clown and Corey wrote basically all the drums part for The Gray Chapter and a decent amount of the singles for WANYK. But from what I've heard from the parts I know he's written he's definitely brought some spice to the Slipknot sound, especially since he's only written about maybe an album's worth of drums overall compared to Joey's... well basically all the discog before Gray Chapter.
@@lilsisgay Props to the guy anyways, I think I'm just biased towards Joey
@@sahinlandman4667 Jay isn’t involved in the writing process as much so wouldn’t really blame him for lack of creative parts- the song structure is so fucking basic compared to the old records with tempo changes and opportunity to play solo drum sections.
I remember Jim Root saying in an interview for either WANYK or The Gray Chapter that they'll do sections in two takes, one with the click and one without, but the one without usually makes the cut.
Interesting !
Do you have the link to that interview ?
@@djabthrash ua-cam.com/video/1FamjxRVgTw/v-deo.html
In this video around 1:45. It seems like he's talking more specifically about WANYK, but it's definitely possible they did a similar thing for this new album.
@@NumberOneIdle Thank you !
My god, the man is a machine. That was so incredibly solid.
Jay is by far my favourite member of the band
@@adammtroutman from the outside looking in that’s how it seems, but none of us truly know the band dynamic these days
Honestly? I think Jay and Joey are both incredible in different ways. Jay’s also a sweetheart of a man, and I prefer him in the band, as a listener since 2000.
All of Jay’s stuff sounds the same to me. That’s not a Joey comparison, just my personal opinion.
That being said, I think the entire band was on a higher level during Joey’s time.
@@jordanwendell6279 the bend is still well and still lives up to the expectations yes some of his shi sounds the same but i think they do good without joey
Joey doing full leg fast double bass is the craziest thing in drumming history, just on its own, nevermind him doing it up side down on stage.
it’s a 22” S Rock ride I believe
commenting for the algorithm so my boy craig can make some dough with his 8 min vid ON THE DOT.
Love it Creg!
I love that he records it with a GoPro 6 and no where near the most current one.
My new favourite thing is how you address the 8 minute timer 🤣🤣
"those toms sound great" incredibly rare from SJC
probably not SJC in the studio
I think people prefer joey because he pretty much set the bar by creating the style everyone loves now, but with time even before his disease/issues, after iowa/vol. 3-ish joey was kind of sloppy live and wasn’t really consistent as he was before. but his power and energy live was unmatched. now with jay, although for the most part, is replicating that style that joey brought to the table, so i guess people don’t like that he’s not “original” but he still adds his flavor every now and then, but with time jay just keeps getting better and better, his double bass is getting faster, clearer, and more consistent, his blasts too, it’s crazy and it’s so satisfying to hear him get better and it’s what slipknot needed, because before it felt like they were showing their age, but with jay, it feels like a young energetic band again.
Jay is a good drum period.
he is indeed a good drum
It's the 22 inch S family rock ride
Wee bleed from within reference in there
Love the dog 🐕 😂
More like a glass of Ripple.
Hey man, Janne Jaloma of Night Crowned / Iron Master / Dark Funeral and many other bands, deserves a reaction video. Do it.
I was watching Pam Pam in the background instead of an intro haha
He wasn't dead when he joined.
I wanna see Max playing some Slipknot songs
would kill to see this
Ee mee mee mee. You were talking and missed him hit the cushion instead of the bell. Wahh, wahh, ee mee mee mee..
Iowa wasn't recorded to a click (according to both Rudy and Krimh in their covers), I dunno about any other albums tho!
Self titled, Iowa, Vol.3 - no click. All hope is gone was definitely recorded to a click. Don't know about the rest.
The first band that came to mind for me was Gojira too! I would sell my wife to be Mario for a gig.
Joey was a pioneer and brilliant songwriter … genius even. Jay is technically superior and more powerful though.
I’ve always thought Jay was equally as skilled and technically as good as Joey. Only difference is Joey is far more creative. Like Joey would write drum “hooks” for songs whereas Jay doesn’t really. I’ve got mates that aren’t really metal fans, let alone Slipknot fans, but they all know the groove to Psychosocial or Before I Forget
I like no click live. Partly cas Im lazy, mostly becuase I like hearing mistakes live. Reminds me that all my favs are human and i can laugh along
Does anyone know what brand/make those hi hats are exactly? They sound perfect.
murat diril, hand made turkish cymbals ;)
Doesn’t throw all the improved nasty fills Joey did.
arguably better for the band when there's 12 drummers 18 vocalists and 75 individual drum pieces and you're trying to keep it tight on a festival headliner
Dude, you need to watch the recent last 10 seconds of life song. It’s a little bit sketchy imo but i’m pretty sure he claims to really be playing the drums. love to hear your opinion
What a terrible pun of a title. 10/10
is that a murat diril hi hat

I think he plays open-handed because he's left-handed.
@@drummrboy I think he’s just that damnnnnnn good too
4. reason: emphasis on hi hat playing, you don't see that too often
They do need t

true 👍
On a technical level, he is comparable to prime Joey. As far as what he writes, not even close. Everything is a straight beat, literally nothing interesting. Wasting his technical ability with boring choices.
4:03 Slipknot doesn't play to a click live? All the samples from Craig and Sid are live as well then? Would have never thought. Usually the light engineering is with the click so it is all programed.
Yes no click craig and Sid play live. Impressive but also difficult and more likely to go wrong
@@reynlord666 Wow. I have a whole new respect for Slipknot and the light crew. Thanks
Yeah that is huge props to the lighting guys. The visual productions these days are so complex they would need to be ON THE BALL with firing all the lighting cues.
@@steventurner1628 Most lighting guys "play" live to the music.
@@djabthrash unfortunately these days not as much as there used to be. I’m in the industry, there is a lot of acts that just run a time-coded show to backing tracks. That’s why I appreciate slipknot live show so much cause their lighting guy is actually firing off all the scenes live on the board, not just making sure so switch the song selection.
Pretty sure that ride is an A custom 20 inch medium. It sounds and looks just like mine after the label gets worn off.
Omfg. I don't understand this. I'm definitely not a Joey stan. I always thought Joey was overrated. But I can't believe Jay still has this gig. He's incredibly inconsistent. Watch any of the live performances on UA-cam. All of his performances are inconsistent. That doesn't mean he's a bad drummer, it just means he doesn't deserve this gig. Plenty of other drummers could have this gig and absolutely kill it.
i think playing to a click live (like he clearly is here) would solve it
@@reynlord666 that's a fair point. And you're probably right.
You got balls to say that but you’re dead right. His double bass is some of the sloppiest live I’ve ever heard especially for a band as big as slipknot, Also he has no technique when blasting and often the left hand comes off the click. But he’s still a beast and I still obviously respect him, He hits hard as shit lol.
As a drummer myself I find listening to drums by themselves only sounds good with certain styles. Metal is definitely not one of them! To my ears it needs to have groove and dynamics to be musical.
I don't know much about nothing. But it seems to me that Jay is an amazing drummer that can play all of Joeys parts and can continue keeping Slipknot sounding like Slipknot. But Joey, on top of all that, was just a next level personality, he was an entertainer. You thought of Slipknot and you thought of Joey. He was a frontman behind the kit.
Whether you like their music or not, the same debate will soon be had about Taylor and Foos. There will be loads of people who can technically and proficiently play all of Taylors parts - but....
I think the differences of them isn't really in performance section only but to all the pocket.Joey take a great role as a composer of songs not only as a great musician drummer and guitarist so has glorious the 1st place also he compose songs like Disasterpiece and people=shit that was unbeatable till today from some drummers!!Jay is a good replace but isn't Joey!
I think most anyone would agree that Jay is the more technically sound drummer. But we all know that doesn't make someone the "better" drummer.
Was that first sentence a joke? Because it was hilarious..
I think he is definitely as good or maybe even a better drummer than Joey but Joey’s drumming had a specific sound and vibe that was unique to him. I think you really can hear the difference when you listen to old vs new Slipknot.
I don't think Joey would play such repetitive beats. Saw this yesterday and ofc he's a bad azz drummer but I think the creativity is lacking a bit.
Paul dying and Joey being out left Slipknot writing the most generic music. Jay can play, but has no creativity. Puts me to Zzz.
Jay is way better as a drummer, but not as an innovator.
Lmfao “way better”.
How so? Like… in the world of metal drumming how tf did what you just say make any literal sense what so ever? I’m not even jocking I don’t have a horse in this race… but to say either guy is (or was) ‘way better’ than the other, is simply a foolish statement.
If you're copying/playing one of the greatest drummers out there songs most nights... you're going to get as good as them. Joey had a major input into songs and played guitar, but these days with Slipknot Jay must be told what to play and very little creative input.
