He talked in an instagram post about how he used to have to tune his floor toms uncomfortably low to get the sound he wanted out of them with Tama, and that DW just has that low rumble in spades without bottoming out and sounding like a waterbed. I think that, plus the artist support, plus the overall quality of the gear in general, and the notoriety associated with the brand all kinda served to make the decision clear cut for him. Tosin got to start his own guitar brand when he hit a certain level and drummers don't quite have that same opportunity, generally speaking...anyways. I'm happy for him. I will miss that custom Japanese maple/bubinga starclassic he was rocking near the end, but knowing DW, they can cook up literally any crazy experimental hybrid shells he can think up. I'm almost disappointed he opted for the regular maple right off the bat. But I guess that just speaks to the sonic quality of the regular ole collector's series. It sure sounds fantastic. Edit: well shit I found out today this kit wasn’t standard in the slightest. 10x8 and 12x8, square 14 and 16 floors I believe, 22x16 kicks, racks are oak, floors are cherry mahogany, snare is purpleheart. So. Yeah.
@@andyham6094 I would argue that I like the sound of his custom maple bubinga more than this collector’s series kit, especially in his newest video releases, but in general I think I’d pick DW over tama.
@@1dudecrush I would argue that I don't notice the difference in sound at all in this video, any of the new AAL, or any video ever he's played with either kit in but I am confused as to why he left tama after how much they've seemingly done for him over the years but who knows maybe it was an important move in his mind.
I remember meeting Matt Garstka, maybe five or six years ago, at a drum clinic. He was in shape at the time. Now it looks like Matt Garstka ate Matt Garstka.
DW have always been both my favourite sounding drums to hear and play on. Until I recently tried some Q Drums… Hands down the best sounding raw drums I’ve got to play on. I understand now why several DW drummers have purchased Q Drums, even whilst still endorsed by DW. Naughtyy
Matt is always incredible. Now he looks like he just spent a long time learning how to be a time sorcerer with the Ancient One a la Doctor Strange. Quite fitting cause he is a time wizard.
Everyone else looking at pedals and the finish and I’m over here wondering if that’s a cowbell under his rack toms, and if so, when he was going to use it.
It’s funny because I followed this band since when Matt was just skinny and normal looking now he’s turned into this monster . Dudes just a proficient human and I genuinely believe he would succeed in any thing he ever does
Bro..I thought it was Jorge Masvidal from the thumbnail smh. I was trying to figure out why he would be standing next to a drum set and then I heard the name. It’s been a rough weekend so far lol.
I love how straight forward Craig is 🤣 " If you're bothered about me talking over this video, just go F%%$£%$ Watch it" ps.. Any information on your setup? Your camera footage is incredible!
Adds a second bass drum but doesn't play a single double kick lick in the entire thing. Also, re: positioning/set up, he seems to have been doing the 'stack as high tom' for a while now
You think double kick kits are janky to play? Putting that big fucking kick in the way of your toms is janky. I'm a lefty who uses a righty double and I have ALL THE ROOM for toms to sit low and close because there's NO KICK IN THE WAY! Got the idea from a Modern Drummer mag a looong time ago

Imo Tama is better in every way. But that’s my opinion and the sound I love. Wouldn’t trade my starclassic bbs for anything.

The bit he's playing from 12:15 onward is the groove from 'Home' by Victoria. Super dope project between Garstka and Josh De La Victoria.
I knew I recognized that from somewhere. Really hoping Matt and Josh make some new stuff soon, their last three singles have been phenomenal.
@@frelopermanboy7426 Agreed. If you haven't, check out the track that De La Victoria did with Stan Bicknell, "Hey Zeus." It's phenomenal.
Craig’s commentary on these videos is the best part
He went full petrucci!
Love the guy! Craig I would love you to react to the newest Vildhjarta - toxin Drum Playthrough with Buster Odeholm
Was just about to request this. Buster is unbelievable.
it fucking rips

Q drums the goat. Best money I’ve ever spent.
Naughty or natty?
Watching a good drummer comment on another good drummer is funny. Especially when 1/3 of the time, Craig is obsessed with Garska’s biceps. :-)
can't continue on with the natty or not series after this because this title is just too fucking good
I don't remember why I was already subscribed to this channel, but 1:55 vindicates my decision. I'd subscribe twice if I could.
I'm kind of surprised you didn't notice the cotton balls in the toms
he looks like he came back from an ayahuasca-experience...in a good way
Garska always leaves mistakes in. He is simply the best drummer alive
*pauses the video
Reyn, you're the only one who sounds like the joker, mate. Wheyyy, fuck off!
*clicks play
Craig, you have perfectly plucked eyebrows in this one
10:35 Sorry but I can't even turn my torso that fast for that fill

Hanging with Raistlin and his brother Caramon. Getting the dark magics and the swole all at the same time.
I'm gonna look for the "old man's house" finish next time I purchase.
Love watching Roy Kent from Ted Lasso react to drummers.
lmaooo that's so true
Everyone else looking at pedals and the finish and I’m over here wondering if that’s a cowbell under his rack toms, and if so, when he was going to use it.
Cant wait to see him shred his new DW set tomorrow night in Norfolk
Matt got a bit fitter.
LOL'D at the joker bit :D oh my god
that is one of the most gorgeous looking kits I've ever seen
I legitimately think that Animals as Leaders is limiting his creativity hahaha
matts a god. that aside, roomy and wide sounding drum recordings are the shit mate. the bees knees
*the balls of the band*
God Squad..... Craig you crack me up man!
All dressed in white. Angelic music when he intro’d the kit. Hmmm. Maybe it is a little Jesus heavy
Yas Craig YAS
You have to be shredded or jacked if you're only three bass drums tall.
It’s funny because I followed this band since when Matt was just skinny and normal looking now he’s turned into this monster . Dudes just a proficient human and I genuinely believe he would succeed in any thing he ever does
9:08 colors with Craig Reynolds
The god squad is truth drums!
It's Mike O'tren all over again lmao

Very Goddy, thats the TRUTH
Old Man's House lol
Craigy do a watch-thru of the live recording of "What About Me - Snarky Puppy".. wanna hear your thoughts on Larnell Lewis!
Seen you and your good lady at wss tonight hope you had a belter
Who does this dude play drums for?
Craig, not Matt I mean.
i live for how gay Craig is for him.
Do a cover of AAL
Matt or Eloy?
So you would pass on SONOR? Come on, man.
already did

Just commenting so total comments in this video would be 69 (nice)
DW. THE PRS of the drum world. Overpriced and over rated.
More cymbals, more dates (sorry I don't know any words that rhyme with cymbals)
you nerds need to chill, theyre all the same
Is Matty natty?... 🤔 probably not. . . 😌
