If they can play it without quantizing and have it sound sick AF, why quantize it? And yes this is def quantized and sample replaced. To me personally, nothing beats a raw drummer that isn't afraid to show how they really sound. It is sad to see some of the most human elements like dynamics, feel and intricacies absolutely obliterated by processing. These are some of the things that really create identities with drummers and more and more, they are being sidelined for production value. Playing consistent enough but still having some character in your playing is one of the hardest things to do, and if it is not longer valued we may eventually lose it. That being said there will always be some purist nut job out there like me that will go through whatever hell it takes just to see if he can.
I’m old. Lombardo sounded incredible to me in 88 and 90 seeing them; don’t think it was triggered! There’s a video of the actual Justice tour I was at on UA-cam (it was the final date of the tour and I in 7th grade). Point: definitely not quantized on Lars that night! Meh: if I understand what’s being done on some of these vids w Space Pedals and singles/doubles/triples correctly…man. It’s a drag. Not this video, per se. You just had a great comment.
Since no one actually answered your question, quantizing the drums to clean them up a bit vs quantizing/sampling them because you cant play the beat at all are two entirely different things. In this genre the music is as heavy and tight as it is because of the quantization and the noise gates, and editing, and eq'ing. Without all of those components the music will start to sound spongy which isn't really a "bad" thing but it's not desired in this style of music. It's ultimately a preference and a similar technique to what guitarists, bassists, and vocalists do (rather the producer etc) to clean up their tones. It's modern metal/music and it helps keep the sounds tight. Also, when you play in such low tunings you have to keep it tight or it will very quickly get muddy and sound like shit even despite each musician being able to play the songs without aid. A lot of environmental factors affect that outcome! Hope that answered your question.
First off, Austin is an absolute beast. No need for anyone to try and argue otherwise. Secondly, in Austin's drum play through for 'Darkest Spawn' he does include Foot Blaster Bass Triggers as one of his sponsors at the beginning of the video, and that for me, is him being upfront, honest, and fully transparent about how his kicks are tracked/recorded. By no means does that mean he can't play at the speed of the recording (Craig confirms this with his commentary on the live video) it just means the bass kicks are tracked using triggers. At least that is my understanding as someone who is not a musician/drummer, but who is doing their best to learn about the recording aspects of music and sound engineering. Please, by all means, correct me if I'm wrong! Can't wait to see you and the rest of the dudes from SFTP with Spiritbox and Underoath in two weeks! I am FUCKING PUMPEDDDD!
Nailed it dude people don’t really know what their taking about with triggers for the most part when they shit on them. Their gods gift to drummers all around (says the atheist😂)
Drumtrigger basically use some form of sensor (like laser, or sometimes mechanical stuff) to register hits on the drum, not the sound. These „hit“ signals then trigger samples in the recording software. For doublebass above 160-180bpm most drummers use triggers, because the faster you play, the quieter it gets. Especially for live scenarios bassdrum triggers are important. No one complains about bassdrum triggers, because even though, you get away with less power, you need to be very precise for it to sound good. (Except you quantise the hits after the recording. That means, you align them digitally to the metronome) Triggers on other drums (snare and tom) are often looked down upon, because it doesn’t matter how weak or on which point you hit the drum, the sound is the same. !!!most of the time!!! Some people like 66samus use triggers on all their drums, that record the dynamics too.
You’re not wrong man and it’s refreshing to find a non-drummer has bothered to research the use of triggers before ignorantly commenting. As an extreme metal drummer myself, they are indispensable. The faster your foot speed kick wise, the less intelligible the individual strokes become on standard acoustic bass drums with mics only. It shits me when ignoramuses call it “cheating”, because triggers don’t enable one to play faster and when utilising them, there is nowhere to hide your double bass mistakes. Edit : Using triggers, it’s possible in concert with other tech, of course, to manipulate the high bpm input from the bass drums to align them more metronomically, but that is cheating imo.

The thing with Lorna Shore everything on their albums is quantized including the guitars and bass guitars so doing a drum playthrough it kinda HAS to be doctored or it will go out of sync with the song. Austin can clearly play the dude insane but that playthrough is not natty.
I don’t get the over quantizing. For a record its different, you want the best possible take blahblahblah. But for a drum cover why?? They are such good drummers
Triggers and sample replacement ... totally necessary at those speeds. Quantizing ....for me it significantly diminishes the respect for the musician's performance. Cause you never know what he actually can do. If you think a quantized 400bpm doubles sound great you can stick with a drum machine .... at least it´s honest. I don´t think Austin Archey needs the tech to sound great ...

He couldn’t hold any blast beat for more than 4 measures, and had to throw in cheap fills to compensate. Not to mention, hardly ever blasted on the ride and snare. He always replaced it with 16th notes in the hats and 32nd on snare
the double strokes on the toms/fills and some of the dynamics even taking the speed into account just dont sound or look good imo but anyone could have a bad day on tour
That was probably during the time he had a ruptured/herniated disk in his back. Go see what he does now.
@@ThaBeatConductor yea his back was fucked for a while i saw him last year and he was on point
He messed up ever ever ever so slightly at 7:50 ( timings off from the original track). Idk if its edited or not but its human at least haha.
“Don’t cum and shit on me”. Holy hell man, totally unrelated agreement there dude.
I’m curious about your opinion on BLASTBEATOLOGY. I’m confident it’s natural, it’s just that his push pull is fucking nutty.
Nah Austin's just a monster.
Subscribed.
yesssssss
Idk fuck all about the recording details and what not, but having seen him live, i can say he is an absolute fucking monster and was nearly flawless live.
Your whole statement here should make you give a f about the recording and “near perfect” back tracked performance lol😂
He is good!! But this is nowhere near as he sounds live. Live he sounds way more human. I like sounding human. Live the snare hits in the fast parts disappear in the mix because its hit softer. It just makes sense. If you want blasts like this video, they need to start and trigger the snare live. Which will make it more like this video
what does quantized mean?
Ask John Longstreth
Playthroughs should be one fixed camera.
This video is a "drumming showcase", not a playthrough
Allowed not natty, cause he natty otherwise
Hi Craig from Downunder,
Is this the type of music being played down the corner pub or local club ?😊
Singer sounds like he is drowning , the drums sound like they aren't real , the guitars just who knows whats going there..........is this what music is coming too , because this doesn't look or sound very good.
✌ Craig.
Always prefer natural. It’s misleading any other way. Unless stated.
Dig the latest Stay video.
Is this a new Behemoth album?
He's the drummer for Lorna shore not Behemoth
The thing with Lorna Shore everything on their albums is quantized including the guitars and bass guitars so doing a drum playthrough it kinda HAS to be doctored or it will go out of sync with the song. Austin can clearly play the dude insane but that playthrough is not natty.
Why drummers keep putting out videos like this when they know Craig is alive and breathing is beyond me.
I don’t get the over quantizing. For a record its different, you want the best possible take blahblahblah. But for a drum cover why?? They are such good drummers
Do a review to one of his new videos
What pedal is that?
Axis longboards
I dont know if you can make a video that i can finish. Ill just stop
bro why are you so hostile? chill out
pantera
maybe go the beach or something? try knitting?@@reynlord666
nice
Triggers and sample replacement ... totally necessary at those speeds. Quantizing ....for me it significantly diminishes the respect for the musician's performance. Cause you never know what he actually can do. If you think a quantized 400bpm doubles sound great you can stick with a drum machine .... at least it´s honest. I don´t think Austin Archey needs the tech to sound great ...
DEFINITELY NATTY🤘🤘
Do you HONESTLY believe that snare was making that sound from that stick height? Dudes not a hard hitter and that snare sounded more choked than Rudi’s blasts
Isn’t it funny can’t find one raw drum track of this anywhere .. Stop already before you say here’s a live video. That shiz fake too.
Waaaaaay to many camera angle changes on this drum playthrough. Couldnt even watch it.
natty or not Aaron kitchner ??
lmao, super no. Programmed up the ass, he's admitted it
What about you stop pausing the video every 10 seconds and listen. I know this is a reaction video but holy shit dude.
its a joke and you dont get it you look duuuuuuuumbbbbbbbbbbb
If u could stop pauseing it for 5 secounds that would be great love the videos though
Just saw lorna shore this past friday night with distant 4-29-22 and austin is legit

Can you talk without pausing the video?
ny brother in christ your only video is you claiming to have the world record in the mobile game ‘tub tapper’, a game where you must tap the screen as fast as you can.
