Great comments section on this one! I had a RRS Dynamic Autobiography for three years. Great car to drive, was a bit of a dream fulfilled. But three faults, each requiring going into the workshop, in three years on a £90K car isn't acceptable. And it needed an extra oil service despite the low mileage. Just as I was thinking of moving it on my (mainstream) insurers wrote to me saying they wouldn't renew at any price, and I live in the sticks and had as good a record as you could have. I was glad to shift it on when I did at the back end of Covid when used car prices were going up. Jay looked past the SVR MPG which is truly ridiculous for a daily driver and the continuing massive depreciation. All in all this is a great car that no one should own, which to be fair to Jay is sort of his conclusion.
Jay In my books your reviews put most reviewers and you tubers to shame. Your pick of cars Like is the F355 Exige SVR DBS says your at a different Level Mate. Awesome work.
yes, because nobody has ever been cut off by a hot hatch, an entry-level Japanese car, any model Nissan, a Jeep with a weight lifter dude inside, any of the moderately-priced sports sedans (Chargers, Maximas, etc.). I tend to putter along in my RRS. What's the hurry? All the while, the aforementioned cars are flying up to the merge point at race track speeds trying to "blend" in front of me at the last possible second - which I let them do. No sense arguing. We will all arrive about the same time anyway.

The owner had the same criteria/wishes as me. I loved the 5.0 Super V8. Had XKR's, XKRS, Bentley Conti, XJR 575, S63 AMG Coupe, AMG GTS - and finally I found the perfect car; The 2012 XFR with a tune to 575 BHP. Its the best car I've ever driven.
It struck the perfect balance. First of all, the size is great for British roads. The looks, to me, are lovely also. Mines silver with chrome detailing and the supercharger embossed wheels (found on many an XKR). The build quality is lovely - no squeaks and rattles whatsoever (unlike the facelifts modes that followed). Superb powerplant. 6 speed ZF - I much prefer this to the 8 speed which I had in my XJR 575 (575 rattles and squeaked too much so it had to go). The ride quality is perfectly judged. In comfort it’s comfortable and in dynamic its dynamic but still supple. The ride balance in the XKR was too harsh in comfort and way too harsh in dynamic. Bentley wallowed but didn’t actually ride that well. S63 was just ill judged. AMG GTS was too stiff by a country mile. The bowers and Wilkins sound d system in XFR is majestic. Later meridians are shit and the speakers rattle. Steering is a joy. I’ve upgraded the brakes and they’re a joy with a firm pedal feel. Seats are dreamily luxurious. It’s got the right amount of tech for me - my 2018 S63 was just trying too hard with way too much going on. Throttle response with the supercharged engine is delightful. Noise is perfectly judged. Handling and grip are wonderful with the PS4’s. It’s just a great car that’s been well thought out. And it’s practical as hell. I love it.
Your sir are either very young or not well travelled. Jokes aside, i have been in 2 that have broken down and seen 100s in my 30+ years. They are not well put together. Then there are the electrics.

Can't agree more. I love car height as low as possible. I used to have a Lotus Elise S1, Z4 E85 and E89. Loved them. Previous 640d GC and current 840i GC are okay😆. Fancy Taycan next time as it is even lower.
So comfy the need of almost stopping the car for every pothole. Love cars and the lower/sporty ones, but it’s such an obsession with showing that people who prefer low cars are more car enthusiasts.
and very well deserved…a good car mostly driven by chavs…at least this is missing the blacked out front windows and tinted number plates with dodgy spacing! For now 😂
I have never understood the point of keyless entry. Before it was invented, nobody, literally nobody, said to themselves "using a key fob to open my car and start it is such a chore and really stressful, I can't wait for someone to invent a keyless car".
Children much prefer wind up windows I've noticed. Carbide lamps lol but there was no need for LEDs. Keyless entry is pointless and you know it mate.@@sandersson2813

But I agree with you - an apt and appropriate, informed review💜👍😀😊
Got one of these after my RS3. Sold it within 1.5 years and got an SQ8 instead. Had multiple problems with the electronics, engine went bang at 31,000 miles (covered by warranty) but was in and out of JLR garage for weeks. Had 3 men try to break into the house whilst I was awake for the car. (I live in a fairly low crime rate area also never had a problem with my previous cars). Wouldn’t touch a JLR car ever again. I thought I was unlucky but I knew a few who have had issues (from minor to major ones). My SQ8 has been fantastic, not one issue.
While driving a brand new one, I realised that I either drove it like a librarian (making it pointless) or I drove it like a bank robber (making me a sociopath)
Hi James I have just bought a 2014 sport 4.4 autobiography. I have got a few bits of warranty work to b done and am having to wait 6 weeks for a wiring loom. For my safety airbag.
JLR suffered during the chip shortage. They actually sold new cars for years with only one key fob and then had a recall to provide a second one when available. The generation of fob used on the SVR in the video is the same throughout the JLR lineup and they are still hard to get hold of today. Your JLR dealer would be happy to get you one if they could.
Not a fan of the RRS SVR. Huge fan of the Full Fat Range Rover. I have a 2015 SDV8. Fabulous vehicle that has averaged 30 mog over the 3 years I have owned it & it has never let me down.
I really fancy one of these but for me it would have to be a ULEZ compliant 3 litre diesel one. One day my X350 XJ will expire and then I'll have decide between one of these and an XF. I'm guessing that the XF will be quicker and more economical, whereas the RR Sport will be more comfortable.
Side note, that "other car" you loved near the end of the video looks a lot like a mid-80s Chevrolet Caprice station wagon (or "estate" in Brit parlance).
I think if you do some research, you will find that the other manufacturers have similar backlogs/wait periods for certain parts due to the shortages/delays caused by COVID supply chain issues. I know, COVID was ages ago, right... but it wasn't in manufacturing terms. And I don't know about all JLR dealers, or what they were like in the past, but our dealer is an extremely professional organization with a very high level of customer service.
I love the SVR. The murdered out look appeals to me (had a 2016 L494 all blacked out). If I were to get another Range Rover I'd probably go british racing green with tan interior.
Sounds like you should drive the same model but autobiography trim which gives softer comfort ride and more luxury including double sun visors, better leather, better seats with massage, cooled seats, tv in the rear, full spare etc…☮️✔️
Februrary 2024 the parts issue was down to 2000 cars, but there was still a workshop backlog for fitting the delivered bits. October 2023; 10,000 cars waiting for parts with 5,000 immobile at dealerships. Reorganising 18 warehouses to 1 big global logistics setup made a mess of everything for a while, but it should all work better and be more "net zero" when it's sorted - says the guy from JLR in the Autocar article i've just skim read,
I owned a BMW X5M years ago. Anytime someone asked how it was on gas, I'd respond "This isn't the vehicle for you!" If your concerned about mpg, reliability etc, get a Toyota not an X5M and definitely not an SVR!
Despite all the reliability issues and dealer issues etc they still sell more and more....alot of the issues are related to poor electrictronic components... Eg . Dash screens just going blank randomly...while yr driving...turned out its a wiring issue with the harness ,the replacements sometimes have the same problem....still those buying most of the time have other cars in their garage
The RR Sport is an incredibly capable and good car. I’ve had two over the years and they’ve been utterly bulletproof over long tenures. No reliability issues whatsoever despite constant usage in all applications on or off road. I would buy another in a heartbeat were they remotely insurable. Sadly for me, my renewal quote was £22k so it had to go. Too easily stolen apparently.
The SVR has a strange image. It’s either a bit of a ‘Chav chariot’ or a car to dream to get out of the hood, a bit like the Escalade was back in the day….
JLR , have been lucky so far that people still buy the brand, but luck runs out sooner or later, I had one of these and to be honest it got to the point if you made it back home with no issues you we’re lucky, the last time I was stranded by the road with an alternator failure I knew then that was the last time for me.
I remember being at the Frankfurt motorshow and making fun of the carbon engine cover option that was on show with my friends. We were quickly chased away by men in suits.
It seems to be hit or miss, which is true of my friends who have Mercs and Bimmers. We have had several RRs and RRSs. A few problems with earlier models (early years of the 2000s), but recent models only go to the dealership for oil changes.
I'd love to see this car tested against a Rivian R1S. On road and off road. The Rivian seems oddly affordable in comparios, where EVs tend to command a hefty premium.
If something is to be considered "luxury" then it first needs to be able to perform it's basic functions reliably. Then the durability must also prove to be robust enough to provide those functions over the length of time beyond that of cheaper alternatives, and provide the user with an experience that justifies the price they are being asked to pay for the experience. It just seems like Land Rover has forgotten these prerequisites, and the heritage that their new offerings fail to match.
They're crap. Poor build quality and reliability, badly designed and styled, difficult to work on, poor availability of spares/parts, awful customer service/care, now enormous depreciation, hugely overweight, innefficient and they exist simply to cosset certain peoples egos. Almost everyone that works on cars knows they are total dogshit. Also, did i mention they are becoming uninsurable in the UK???
I know someone who ended up in a mental health facility abroad over one. Engine light became replacement of cats and then main ECU. 12k plus and the cost of therapy and flights! He couldn't afford any of that.
@richardharrold9736 sorry to hear about your friend. That’s pretty heavy stuff. I loved Chris’ early work and followed him since his early UA-cam days and read his Autocar stuff.
"I know he's going to message me later, when he gets home..." I know it's commentary that's been done to death, but that should read "IF" he gets home. I've owned 3 RRs in the last 7 years (Overfinch Sport, a Vogue and a Autobiography). They are fabulous when they work (the operative word being "when") but they are so woefully poorly built, and unreliable...I doubt I'll ever buy another. It felt like mine spent more time at the main dealer, than it did on the road (my 2019 Autobiography was a particularly bad experience). A car shouldn't be a cause of daily stress/anxiety. For me, I need to be confident that it isn't just going to decide not to work when I get in it. For this reason, RR are an epic fail. I've not owned an SVR iteration, but something tells me they're likely to be even less reliable than the standard cars, because performance version always need more baby-ing than the standard.
quite the opposite, since they released the new rrs, JLR has had a 30% drop in warranty claims, and the SV cars use the more developed engines by SV themselves or BMW rather than the ingenium dogcrap they insist on using on the rest of the cars.
@anonymousperson7861 the L460 has only been out about 18 months...and let's be honest, LR is well aware that they need to fluff-up (or rather, fluff-down) the numbers re: repairs etc. All new L460s are still under manufacturers warranty, so its unlikely that non-affiliated warranty companies will have figures for at least another year or two. I'm sure they've worked out some of the gremlins, but I won't be jumping back into one anytime soon
@@anonymousperson7861never trust a number from a manufacturer. 30% could mean their warranty covers less, so less claims. Could mean they're selling less cars so less claims (unlikely though). Sounds like bs to me
It's amazing how a 2019 Autobiography (post facelift) can still be unreliable. That's a good seven years of production of that L405 model. Absolutely bonkers.
The very last thing needed with Jaguar or Land Rover ownership is poor parts availability, i would avoid these vehicles like the plague, it would be bad for any vehicle but i can't imagine anything much more miserable than having a vehicle laid up for what may be a relatively minor component.
3 years in from owning via Lease, I believe it’s one of the best one car vehicles around. Yes it’s value has collapsed but not my issue due to leasing. What a buy now for a two year old car, half price and if your over 50 years old then Saga will do under 1K per year!!! Now you’re driving an amazing car for 60k plus 1K insurance with 20k on the clock. Really can’t think of anything as comparable even my previous DB9 and Rapide S as this drives as well and yet can load to the hilt. Get a Silver car so doesn’t look like a drug dealer, or the Blue but that’s a bit chavvy now.
Could you do a comparison with a standard Range Rover Sport, maybe a HSE or Autobiography, but with the 5.0 supercharged engine. I believe they had 510bhp oppose to the 575bhp of the SVR. Would be interesting to see if that car would still provide the excitement but with a more comfortable ride at low speeds and when driving around town.
When you encountered the bus 😂 Twice I’ve had my wing mirrors clipped in my work van on rural roads, those twice were Range Rover drivers with “I drive a lorry” syndrome.

Love it, In fact I love pretty much ALL range Rovers, ever. But I would never ever own one - (and I know this has been done to death) - cant afford the repair bills or the stress of its unreliability.
As a Brit I feel proud of it, much like a RR, Aston, Jag or a MINI, they may be foreign owned but they’re home grown
Why on earth would you be proud of any of those cars lol, only ones known for anything are for rich pricks and bond films
As a motorist its sensibilities offend me.
Looking forward to Billy update... What a hero !
Have one for 3.5 years now. Had some issues... had them fixed. But what matters is I love love love this thing. It is simply sublime! Best allrounder I ever had. Now is the time to add a maser gantourismo or (I am leaning towarda this choice) jaguar f-type R to stay "british ish":. Greatings from Poland!
But if You want to buy one go for autobiography with panoramic subwoof. Just love mine!
It's almost safe for the rest of us to buy Range Rovers/Sports again as all the bellends have moved to Defenders.
And Teslas.

@@S.1-I-I-1-1my dad has one for work, under the company. A guy who knows at my brothers football academy team has 2 under his business company. His son literally passed had a 1.5a3 crashed it in 6 months of passing & wrote it off on an island motorway, he’s 20. His dad gets him a brand new Tesla for his next car. Absolutely mind blowing decision. He’s gonna kill somebody & himself.
Facts. I’m starting to see way less range rovers and more defenders
Have the exhaust tips changed and put a TDV6 badge on the back 😂
It’s the guilty pleasure syndrome! You know you shouldn’t but you can’t help it. 😩. Great review and totally agree on the interior. You have a Rangey for the luxurious feel it gives you. Might be worth doing a similar review of the P400 Hybrid🤔👍.
That Chevy Station Wagen is glorious. I don't envy the fuel bills, but that car is epic.
“The other Range Rover demographic - drug dealers” 🤣🤣 Great review as always 👍
Jay In my books your reviews put most reviewers and you tubers to shame. Your pick of cars Like is the F355 Exige SVR DBS says your at a different Level Mate. Awesome work.
Difference between a hedgehog and range rover...pricks are on the outside on a hedgehog
rehashing an old statement that used to apply to XR3 drivers a long time ago.
Lol
yes, because nobody has ever been cut off by a hot hatch, an entry-level Japanese car, any model Nissan, a Jeep with a weight lifter dude inside, any of the moderately-priced sports sedans (Chargers, Maximas, etc.). I tend to putter along in my RRS. What's the hurry? All the while, the aforementioned cars are flying up to the merge point at race track speeds trying to "blend" in front of me at the last possible second - which I let them do. No sense arguing. We will all arrive about the same time anyway.
Very old joke!
@@eastbaystreet1242 considering you seem to be from the USA,
its important to mention the type of people who buy a RR SVR in the US is very different from those who buy one in the UK
What made it better for you over the other cars that you listed?
I love it.
Driving on the m62 today i went past 6 broken down cars. 4 were rangeys.
In all of my adult life, I've yet to see one broken down. They are usually out there pulling other cars free of all sort of obstacles.
Cheers.
Your sir are either very young or not well travelled.
Jokes aside, i have been in 2 that have broken down and seen 100s in my 30+ years. They are not well put together. Then there are the electrics.
Owned an 2018 SVR for three years and absolutely loved it.
on my second from 2017 to current 2021. Nothing else like it period 👍
I've been in the UK a few times. Lot of car moments. But the biggest one I have in my mind is a blue one of these flat out through Glasgow town not caring about red lights at all. Didn't need a Nobel Prize in science to tell that he (or she) was a real gangster 100%😂
SUV's will always jitter and jostle you side to side due to high C of G
And that's why I'll never buy one.
James you didn't feature the breakdown truck in this vid 😅
Can't agree more. I love car height as low as possible. I used to have a Lotus Elise S1, Z4 E85 and E89. Loved them. Previous 640d GC and current 840i GC are okay😆. Fancy Taycan next time as it is even lower.
So comfy the need of almost stopping the car for every pothole.
Love cars and the lower/sporty ones, but it’s such an obsession with showing that people who prefer low cars are more car enthusiasts.
When you have money but don’t understand how to enjoy life or beauty but a Range Rover. Chavtastic.
The sport particularly has that chav image.
and very well deserved…a good car mostly driven by chavs…at least this is missing the blacked out front windows and tinted number plates with dodgy spacing! For now 😂
The new money, no originality starter pack:
One Rolex, one murdered-out Range Rover and two tickets to Dubai.
@@timleech 3D number plate with illegal spacing between characters😆

I have never understood the point of keyless entry. Before it was invented, nobody, literally nobody, said to themselves "using a key fob to open my car and start it is such a chore and really stressful, I can't wait for someone to invent a keyless car".
I have always thought how pointless is to have to take your key out of your pocket and straighten it into the key thing to turn on the car.
You probably think that windows shouldn't be electric or that we shouldn't have replaced carbide lamps.
Children much prefer wind up windows I've noticed. Carbide lamps lol but there was no need for LEDs. Keyless entry is pointless and you know it mate.@@sandersson2813
@sandersson2813 neither of those jeopardise the security of a car. My point is that it is a needless option that makes it easier for a car to be stolen. It's bad design in my view, solving a problem that never existed.
@ogearhead2426 keys can't be scanned without your knowledge using technology that is then used to steal your car.
2018 Dark Vader Black Range Rover Velar in my garage! I love it J! Its a Beast no mufflers!
Not sure it premier league footballers anymore
The money in the lower leagues means any half decent pro can afford one and not loose any sleep at night.
I thought Jeep did the first luxury SUV/4x4 with the Wagoneer🤔🤔
I agree re the comparison - interior - between a Range Rover and. Cayenne.
I love the look of JLR products, their capabilities, but friends who are design engineers, whove worked for JLR, those who I know of who work on the lines, the reputation of local dealers, awful reliability on the whole - no thanks.
I found the same not much fun to be had halfway
Hi James I have just bought a 2014 sport 4.4 autobiography. I have got a few bits of warranty work to b done and am having to wait 6 weeks for a wiring loom. For my safety airbag.
One of the best looking of its kind..definitely one of my favorite..v8 goodness
Hang on, you CAN select drive modes with the rotary selector!
I prefer the L322 with the big V8 turbo diesel. Quick, efficient for an SUV with huge towing and off road abilities.
drive mode can be changed by twisting the button that says auto on it! modes appear on drivers display when toggled there
JLR suffered during the chip shortage. They actually sold new cars for years with only one key fob and then had a recall to provide a second one when available. The generation of fob used on the SVR in the video is the same throughout the JLR lineup and they are still hard to get hold of today. Your JLR dealer would be happy to get you one if they could.
You can twist that knob you mentioned to switch modes as well
You don’t have to use the touch screen to adjust the driving mode; you can also use the rotary control.
To be honest these aren't necessary, but i love them!
Not a fan of the RRS SVR.
Huge fan of the Full Fat Range Rover. I have a 2015 SDV8. Fabulous vehicle that has averaged 30 mog over the 3 years I have owned it & it has never let me down.
Same.
Having had an XF I can confirm that they are very comfortable cars too. Wiltshire to Edinburgh was very relaxing
Side note, that "other car" you loved near the end of the video looks a lot like a mid-80s Chevrolet Caprice station wagon (or "estate" in Brit parlance).
I'm considering buying the svr, even though I have a range rover sport 4.2 supercharged. Now that is quick 468bhp😊
My neighbour had a small prang in his 2021 Defender, and it was gone for over 3 months getting repaired, waiting on replacement parts apparently.
I like it but would never pick one over a full sized Range Rover
Februrary 2024 the parts issue was down to 2000 cars, but there was still a workshop backlog for fitting the delivered bits.
October 2023; 10,000 cars waiting for parts with 5,000 immobile at dealerships. Reorganising 18 warehouses to 1 big global logistics setup made a mess of everything for a while, but it should all work better and be more "net zero" when it's sorted - says the guy from JLR in the Autocar article i've just skim read,
I love these and would have one in a minute if insurance wasn't so brutal.
I owned a BMW X5M years ago. Anytime someone asked how it was on gas, I'd respond "This isn't the vehicle for you!" If your concerned about mpg, reliability etc, get a Toyota not an X5M and definitely not an SVR!
Can somebody explain why car theft is so rampant in Britain? I mean there is no nearby RHD market nearby to ship full cars.
WOW!! 21:38 a Chevy Caprice Wagon in the UK.
The SVR has a strange image. It’s either a bit of a ‘Chav chariot’ or a car to dream to get out of the hood, a bit like the Escalade was back in the day….
SVR - Seriously Vexatious Reliability
owned one have you?
TY J 🙏🙏
I love Range Rovers but that back panel was about a week off line
Great review.....I have the 2021 HST 400HP version and must say, I am smitten every time I drive it. Absolutely wonderful vehicle
Terrible panel fit at 4:20
Yeah that’s standard for jlr scrap . Awful fit & finish
@@davida7713just like it’s normal to Ferrari. But one you’re talking badly and the other one is on your profile photo.
"Just in case you've missed it" I'm having great difficulty missing them, they're typically driven in the middle of each B road I use.
I live on the Welsh borders and I have never actually seen one of these in my life.
Great car, simply not worth the aggro that comes with ownership. Ex RRS owner here.
It seems to be hit or miss, which is true of my friends who have Mercs and Bimmers. We have had several RRs and RRSs. A few problems with earlier models (early years of the 2000s), but recent models only go to the dealership for oil changes.
You get a like simply for managing to complete this review without the cad being stolen.
I'd love to see this car tested against a Rivian R1S. On road and off road. The Rivian seems oddly affordable in comparios, where EVs tend to command a hefty premium.
Be an interesting head-to-head just to see which broke first - Rivian is even less reliable.
It is the most bonkers car I have ever driven. Things this big shouldn't move like it does, and always made me giggle when you open the exhaust flap.
Like a Ferrari?
@@ehtikhet Ferrari has been one of the worst offenders of all time.

@richardharrold9736 interesting. I feel Chris has become resigned to the direction modern cars are going and the reviews are less critical
@richardharrold9736 sorry to hear about your friend. That’s pretty heavy stuff. I loved Chris’ early work and followed him since his early UA-cam days and read his Autocar stuff.
"I know he's going to message me later, when he gets home..."
I know it's commentary that's been done to death, but that should read "IF" he gets home.
@@anonymousperson7861 A 30% drop in a massive number is still big!
If the police saw you driving 125mph down a road in this they'll just wait for you at the Land Rover workshop or complaints department.
It’s got its good points but just to wide, so many car parks etc are about the width of it lol, a pain to park.
When you encountered the bus 😂
Twice I’ve had my wing mirrors clipped in my work van on rural roads, those twice were Range Rover drivers with “I drive a lorry” syndrome.
