Glad to see you call out the screen replacement process on these tilting printers. I am still using a mighty 8k (which i love, but sloooow) and eventually will upgrade to one of the tilt vat models, but not until someone comes out with one where a screen replacement doesn't require a full down to the studs remodel.
@AG-x4r well, i agree with you it's a "manual check" with paper sheets, not a "real leveling". What is said in this video is that wasn't available on the Saturn 4 Ultra. I just corrected this mistake because this process (with the paper sheets, the screws and the buildplate laying on screen) is indeed present in this model since the december firmware update, as i own one and could see it myself
Haha I was as well but I absolutely HATE the new build plates on these Saturn 4s + I always get drips down the sides of the vat. Then there's the dreaded pin hole around the rim that makes the black tape go all wrinkly! 😂 Anyway I got an offer I couldn't refuse so I went with the Saturn 3 ultra for £270 delivered and I'm also testing the new Chitu Systems Hoopat X3 quick release vat system. The new vat from chitu has no screws so you can replace the PFA or ACF in just 30s and it creates the perfect tension so no more failures due to over or under tension. Anyway it's designed for the Saturn 2, 3 and 3 ultra and WOW is worth it, I've been testing it on the Saturn 2 with their ACF. The prints are super detailed just like in Fauxhammer's 12k ultra review and it fell like latex or rubber, even with a full print bed it's SILENT zero peel sound!
@@printitpaintit.2436i really don't know what printer I want. I want a fairly big, but the most important is details. I want to print 1/12 scale headsculpt.
@@printitpaintit.2436Do you think the prints with the ACF were as sharp as the PFA? Mostly, Fauxhammer believes it’s not as sharp as PFA (without antialiasing turned on), but other have sometimes can’t see a difference between the ACF and the PFA. Separately, that new Chitu Systems replacement vat sounds great (for super-quick change of film and accurate film tensioning). You said “quick release” vat, but I assume the vat still uses original blot system, so it isn’t like Chitu included a “quick release slide lock” mechanism for this new vat that would replace the “knob screw bolt” system?
@dovmerrill804 For the vat it uses the original printer bolts, by quick release they are referring to the film and it is quick maybe not the 30s they claim but I'd say you can do in 60s if you wanted to! As for the ACF I use Phrozen ACF and Apex ACF without any major loss of detail but I normally use it on my big printers so it's irrelevant because once you scale up a model you stretch out the details.. For small stuff like the Saturn 2 and 3 I used AA on the Saturn 2 and at 30um the prints look amazing. I forgot to turn on the AA for Saturn 3 ultra but the prints that I've done so far look much sharper than the Saturn 2 8k so now I've enabled it they should look even sharper!! (Saturn 2 had the old NFEP) The Saturn 3 ultra is really nice and the UI has way more options like you can alter almost any settings as you go, it's very similar to the Apex Maker X1 options wise! The fans are a little loud but that's all you can hear and they only come on when it's printing then turn off when it's finished, I can't say anything bad about it so far yer it doesn't have a heated vat but I have a little chamber heater so not a big deal. I should be posting some pictures of the vat and the prints I've just printed (Ladypool and Deadpool) + a baby dragon head from last month's loot studio bundle! The only problem I've found with the vat is the paint is already coming off but it does with the elegoo vats I don't know why they don't just use aluminium or stainless steel like Apex and Phrozen.. 🤔
I just put my build plate into the cleaning bath with prints still on it ahha,I do this using the anycubic wash n cure 3 plus, with the rack set up for the plate so only the lower section of the plate dips into the alcohol - cleans it and the prints together and I never drip resin anywhere, its a really nice system tbh, gets around a lot of cleaning issues and takes away most of the issue with this built plate. 😁😁
Not sure if the 3 plus has the same issues as the max, but I found excess resin didn't get completely removed before curing so I have to do a pre wash before the wash. If you notice any tackiness/stickiness after curing it's because the resin wasn't completely washed off, this does affect tolerances so if parts require significant sanding to fit together, this is one reason why. Also if tolerances are an issue supposedly curing it in a liquid like water (and I think ipa works too) helps dissipate the heat that occurs when curing which also affects tolerances.
@@joelbanks8868 well i have two of the 15L washing containers😅😅 , so yea i do already do two washes anyway, Ill just put it in the first one, do a 5 min clean, then as i lift it out, spray some more alcohol on with my spray bottle, and its like 80-90% clean, and then i replace the wahsing container with my second one, which remains almost completely clear and do a second round of 5 mins :) so yea I do not have any issues, after the two washes in a first dirty/cloudy container then the much cleaner one my prints come out super clean every time, if there is any areas left i see needing more, i just spray with my spray bottle a ibit :)
Another great video Ross. I'd love that heated vat tray for my 12K Ultra. Another advantage of "that" build plate, is that it is easily swapped out. I have at least two build plates for all my printers, allowing me to get the printer turnround between prints to a minimum. Unlike my Anycubics (or any other printer which uses plates manually levelled to the screen) each plate has to be setup to an individual printer, and not swapable between similar printers. I hadn't realised the screen was smaller, thanks for that - I think. Now back in a quandry, I intend getting another Saturn 4 Ultra, and would really like the heated vat, but do use the full size of the current screen, so loosing approx 3mm alround will be an issue. I have the Elegoo space heater installed (again as per the heated vat no manual adjustment of temp), however it maintains a temp within the enclosure of approx 26C, when I can get the display up to show the current running settings the resin is often around or above 30C. I assume from the COB heat source. I live in Scotland so need heating most of the year, I wish I was as kind to the human operator (me) as I am to the resin, I don't have any space heating.
We don't need an app, especially that "everyone else has it" is not a reason to add it. We need presure sensors to avoid compression on first layers! Quality >>> Gimmicks
Yeah fair. Honestly though. I like that Elegoo and Anycubic do different things. More choice. If they both did the same. We’d be having very petty arguments
I printed an angled hanger straight away, which is handy, but another thing that makes using the wonky build plate a bit easier is the new Mercury 3. Being able to just put the whole bloody thing into the wash tank is nice. Also less messy. Definitely need me one of them baking sheets, though.
Thanks for the video. I have been trying to get my hands on a 12k as I didn't want the 16k monitor, but the heated vat really won me over. (I print in my garage which gets chilly) Thanks for the thorough review as always.
love the review, you are the only one actually testing the printers instead of just reviewing the specification sheet that comes with it. So we have a worse print quality but vat heater for 100Euro more. Maybe the 12k saturns now go on bigger sale. If Anycubic comes with m7 max with higher res screen this year, they will sweep the market
THANK YOU for mentioning the drip adapters, and yes. Manual level is already on latest firmware on the 12k. Do you still have that chitusystems UV meter? That should be able to easily check if that light is outputting 405nm waves or not.
Reaching out to the masses for thoughts. I bought a S4U and it got shipped about 2 days before the pre-order came out for the 16k. I also bought the Elegoo heater (cold room) to go with it. Now, my heater doesn't work (going to return to Elegoo, it maxes out at 19*C) and the S4U cover was cracked in a few places, along with the vat overflow sensor saying it was too full (once even when I didn't have the vat installed!). Right now I am either looking at returning it all for a refund from Elegoo and then ordering the 16k version, or working with Elegoo to return the heater, get a new lid, and then utilize a brew belt to heat the vat. I am a hobbyist printer, printing 3d dice and lots of miniatures, so the 12-16k resolution isn't important to me (current printer is a 4k), but don't know if its worth the convenience of built in heating for the 16k or stick with 12k and just vat heat
Love the addition of the heater and the grab handle for the build plate. I never had issues with my build plate not being level, but i've also never checked lol Makes me wonder if I should check it or just leave it.
I sold my Saturn 4 (Green), and went back to my Mars 4 Ultra. Wifi was a blessing. The "self zeroing" build plate was extremely annoying. And I have no desire for a tilting mechanism. One more thing to go wrong... Now If I could find a mid size printer with Wifi, a tilt lid, decent 12K prints, and none of the stupid stuff.
Is there any timeframe yet for the saturn 5? I bought mars 5ultra. As my first printer and now i want to buy a bigger one. Was looking at the saturn 4 ultra. But wasnt sure if I should wait on a possible s5 ultra release
Can I ask what power % you settled on as I saw you choose 45% and 75% at different points in the video, I assume you were demonstrating how to change. I pre ordered one on the launch day so hoping to get notified of dispatch soon. Decided to hold off on FDM for a little while and just get a second resin. Just curious of your ballpark UV power as I assume I will have to make adjustments to mine. I would normally just decrease in increments of 5% but if it is as low as 45% for you, I may just jump straight into 50% after initial test print of 100%
im runing a saturn 1 on its 2ns screen.. print quality is fine for tabletop miniatures. the points of failure in the 4 has me left wondering if I get a 3 or wait for what they do with the 5.
ok so it prints in the cold, but it does it make lines in the print by the heater? gk3 ultra heater is making lines in prints (and thats on top of the other lines in prints problems )
I would gladly upgrade to this in a year or so from my GK2 (which was my first printer), however there are 2 crucial features which stops me from doing so: 1. The GK2 spoiled me with how easy they made cleaning the plate since it is one thick block and the resin mainly stays where it should be. Having to navigate that narrow row of columns of the Saturn seems like a nightmare to me since resin is very hard to clean up properly to begin with, I do not need the extra headache. 2.The lack of lids on resin trays. I do not like having to empty the resin every time I am done with a print, again another feature I have been spoiled by the GK2. At this point I really think more manufacturer should consider vat lids, since most of us just stick to 1 resin and cleaning the vat without damaging the FEP feels like trying to roll three 6s on dice; a gamble I am not willing to take. I give them massive credit for finally including a heater though, that part as a UK dweller is very attractive, just wish point 1 and 2 were also considered more by them.
I played a game of Kill Team with my daughter a couple of weeks back. Her first game ever. First roll, 3 sixes and a five, on four dice! Don’t think I’ve had that in my life But yeah, I hear you on the differences. Gk2 is still a legend
@@FauxHammer Hah! Tell me about it... a few years back I was playing Warhammer Quest 95 with some friends... 3 turns in a row my Barbarian rolled a 1, on the fourth turn I said if I roll a 1 again I swear I'll flip the table. The dice landed on a CORNER... never seen that in my life, didn't know it was even possible, my friend told me that one of the Chaos Gods was definitely screwing with me and it was a legit roll. But yeah love my GK2 for now, still waiting for the next runner up.
I just spent tons of money on materials and tools building a heated and sealed case for my Anaycubic M4 Ultra. I wanted to "try 3d printing cheap to see if I like it" but all the extra crap needed to do just to get stuff printing right in my cold cellar could have easily been avoided by just buying this thing lol. I guess I'd still need my ventilation system at least.
Would the new or the old machine be better for a Jeweler? It seems like the higher resolution screen doesn't actually achieve finer details and I might just be better off getting the original model and adding a heater and a light myself
We need a handle or an automatic lid open sensor to open the lid and true auto leveling sensor. Still don't get why these printers don't have a handle.
Its not perfect but for 500$ at half the price of an ultra gear reflex rs and almost 1/3 the price of an ultra gear reflex this printer sounds incredible as my first printer, thank you for your review im glad i waited ❤
I got the Saturn 4 Ultra for Christmas and I'm very happy with it and the only thing about the new model I'm interested in is the Heated Vat but i can invest in a mini heater to fix that As for the slightly smaller build plate no thanks as some of my larger prints just fit on the plate at the moment
It's a side grade upgrade for those currently with the S4U and it's a good one but from the looks of it only if you're not happy with you need heating or are unhappy with your current heating method. Otherwise if I was looking at buying Elegoo I'd probably wait to pull the trigger on the S5U.
One thing I don't understand about sla leveling, I've only ever leveled my printer once and it prints the same every-time, if we only need to level it once why is auto vs manual leveling such a big deal, especially if they're sacrificing QoL for the 2 tiered plate for auto leveling.
So from my understanding the photon m7 max and saturn 4 ultra 16k are about equal because what one excels in the other doesn't. photon m7 max: it just works and isn't a nightmare to work with/maintain consumables, but is slower if you value quality over speed. -truly plug n play -easy to maintain -large build volume saturn 4 ultra 16k: has a list of QoL improvements that they're neglecting, is fast and prints high quality albeit about the same quality as it's predecessor after jumping through some hoops. -fast print speed -high quality prints -exposure test built into the printer itself
And yes I agree we need a phone app as I'm not always able to sit in front of the PC to check on my print Maybe I should invest in a mini wireless video cam
maybe this isn't the best place to ask, but I'm looking to get a resin printer to do scale model customization 1/16 1/32 1/64 stuff like that. I/m still doing research but what are the best plug and play brands/models? willing to spend 500-600 for a good one. Thanks
I’ve just replaced the screen on my mars 4 and that was not a consumer acceptable activity - and cost me a couple of months of downtime. Also screen replacement cost is a factor
Would you recommend this over the 12K version, or save the 100 bucks and find a way to heat it yourself. I live in a location where the temperature can be cold and inconsistent.
I have two Ultra 3's and one Ultra 4 (non-16K). I prefer working with my Ultra 3's though all of them print almost identically. The acto of removing the plate off the printer is annoying because I am always worried about dripping down into the machine, even when putting a tray underneath the print before moving it.
bought my 2nd S4U about a week before the 16k version was announced annoyingly haha, OR would have waited for this one - wana get a M7 max next tho for the size
Yup, further to my long list of desired features to tempt me back into resin printing I posted on one of your recent videos - this comes bloomin' close. But the tear down to screen replace coupled with the stupid waffle build plate means it's still a "no" from me. Fingers cross for the next gen of Elegoo.
I was hyped on the s4u when I dropped, but I'm glad I waited. Honestly I think I'm going to go with the anycubic m7. Elegoo seems like they are focusing too much on features and farkles and making it as "plug and play" as possible rather than making a solid, predictable machine. I don't need a luxury car with the xm radio package and heated seats, I need truck that is going to do the job it needs to do, and I'll add the features I need. Also, when I need to fix something (which I will) I need it to be as easy and accessible as possible. It seems to me that anycubic is leaning more towards repairability and build quality over "shiny new features" ... At least looking at the m7 I hope they are. Let's forget about the pro 😅
My first 3D printer was an Ender 2 (max or pro, I don't remember the nomenclature), and ruined it and had to swap it's motherboard, couldn't make it work ever since. Point is, I'm not the *best* tinkerer (even if I like to do it sometimes), and thus, the screen being a full tear down is a huge problem for me, it almost made me not want to buy, and the only reason I'm going to is because the speed actually impacts how I'm going to use it. If there was another machine with similar speed/quality, I'd go for that and not look back.
It seems the majority of people do think that K is the most important thing. I don't know if it is the printer companies fault for making people believe this or the printing company are just capitalizing on what people believe but i've had too many conversations with people who refuse to believe you can get prints just as nice from an 8 or 10k printer as you can from a 16k with a crap light source. While I like the addition of the heated vat I still can't purchase one of these due to the silly build plate and hassle of replacing the lcd
I love the Saturn 4 ultra however I broke my first one trying replace the lcd screen I see no reason why u need take the damn thing apart luckily it's only the ribbon cable connector which any computer guy can repair. I brought a new one no issues whatsoever. If I remember there's some ports that look like there for the heater system so might see a conversion kit the 4 ultra. I have very little complaints the printer other than the life span of the LCD screen being 2000 hours they need make a longer lasting one an make it way easier to get the screen put without taking the thing apart. Maybe a locking system that holds the screen in place u flip a few claps an remove it out the front. I don't see the need of tape an glue. Like a 2 plate system sandwiching the LCD screen in place. With claps or screws in place with tape over the top. That way all u need to do is take the back panel off disconnect the screen an pull it off. Remember idiots like me need to be able to do it without breaking it
Funny and equally not funny enough today I had to replace replace my Saturn ultra 4 screen and for some reason had no recollection of having to disassemble the entire printer to get to the screen. I’ve been Printing for about a year and a half now and have had to replace screens on my GK2 and my Jupiter, and none of them were as laborious and tedious as this I found myself being really angry and saying I did not sign up for all of this work. As I was reassembling the machine I thought to myself I wonder if the new 16 K version would be any different or if elegoo would have addressed the problem. I guess not . I’m skipping this one.
I would rather wait for a 4K DLP Saturn Ultra, 50 microns pixel size if more enough for my usage. Asiga Ultra has a 4K DLP but cost 15K USD. Just hope Elago might be working on a 4K DLP printer. Also would prefer ball screws instead of lead screws, an SD card slot, closed loop stepper motors for Z and tilt axis.
I'm baffled by the desire for a phone app, If I'm not at home where I can either check the progress on my PC , or just look at the printer, It's not like knowing the status of my print is useful information. I can't fix the problem. I'm not near my printer to change anything. Maybe I just don't print enough things that take 12 hours. the majority of my prints are under 3 hours(a lot under one). Or I don't have much of a life (possible) I did buy the previous printer based on your review, I built a forced air heater for it so I can control the temps. I agree with you on it and likely on this one.
You can't fix it, but you can remote stop it so it stops wasting resin or burning images into your fep lol. I don't own a resin printer with an app, but I do have the bambu handy app. I've stopped 3 failed prints while I was out so it stops growing a spagetti monster. Also a silly thing that I've ended up doing multiple times: sometimes I go to bed and I forgot to turn the lights off in my bambu, I turn it off from the app while in bed. LOL
@@KryaDiere but the amount of resin you lose from a failed print is almost all from the clean up process, I waste FAR more resin cleaning out the vat then from the little bits of resin cured on the bottom. FDM machines work very differently. and can not only waste a lot of material, but are a fire hazard.
Screen change is a disappointment. The heated vat was annoying since I only bought my Saturn 4 ultra in December, but overall the changes aren’t enough to warrant an upgrade so soon. I will however be stealing your plate clearing idea because I’m wasting a lot of resin taking the plate off every time. I just did a recycle of my ipa and there must have been 200 mls of resin actually in the ipa container. Such a waste compared to pre-Saturn 4 cleanings.
I will be skipping this one, hoping that the Sat5 will have better/easier screen replacement. Or, even as an Elegoo fanboy of sorts, get a different printer that has similar quality/volume and easier maintenance.
They could've given it the 12k screen, call it the 4+ at 500 euro, and then additionally release a 4+16k model for 600 or 700 euro for the people that just won't bother to check the reviews.
At this point I see no advantage from changing from my Saturn 3 ultra. I can’t stand the thought of working with that resin wasting plate. I call these 4s dribblers. The plate dribbles, the vat dribbles. Great way for Elegoo to make buys buy more resin.
God please stop calling for a phone app. There is only one way this will take: Cloud. And of course cloud to the exclusion of everything else. Why not just have your printer host a little web page where you can go for status updates?
No I will not buy a printer with a gap between vat and enclosure and have a gap between plate handle. Just replacing parts in my saturn 2 was a nightmare. This looks like machine that will earn them money by selling spare parts.
Absolutely skipping this one specifically because of the ridiculous screen replacement process, and I’m getting rid of my original S4U for the same reason. It’s wild that Elegoo thinks that a two hour process to replace a consumable is okay.
Mostly replying to help FH with his engagement numbers, but I figured I would chime in with, some of us are twisted enough to like taking things apart and putting them back together again? I agree, for anyone who just wants to spend their time, which for a lot of people is a precious commodity, creating prints, then 2 hours to replace a consumable (and I doubt it’s only 2 the first time you do it) needs improvement. Just speaking out for the weirdos like me that enjoy working on equipment as much as we enjoy watching equipment work. Cheers!

It's not leveling. It is only some sort of check. There still is no way to normally level this plate like on any other printer

(Saturn 2 had the old NFEP)
The Saturn 3 ultra is really nice and the UI has way more options like you can alter almost any settings as you go, it's very similar to the Apex Maker X1 options wise!
@@chemistrybro_ Smart, wish I did what you did. the max ain't worth it.
Printing out some Trench Crusade minis I see. The court has some fantastically detailed models.
I've been looking forward to your take on this product. Thanks for the effort!
An app is not a gimmick lol. It would be incredibly useful.
I pre-ordered on launch day it will be my first printer so this should be fun.
I printed an angled hanger straight away, which is handy, but another thing that makes using the wonky build plate a bit easier is the new Mercury 3. Being able to just put the whole bloody thing into the wash tank is nice. Also less messy.
Definitely need me one of them baking sheets, though.
Great and informative video as allways!
Thanks for the video. I have been trying to get my hands on a 12k as I didn't want the 16k monitor, but the heated vat really won me over. (I print in my garage which gets chilly) Thanks for the thorough review as always.
Saturn 4 3/4 Ultra
love the review, you are the only one actually testing the printers instead of just reviewing the specification sheet that comes with it.
If you can heat the vat well and don’t care for the Timelapse camera. Save the money and just heat the vat IMO
Regarding the cleaning of the plate : Have you tought of making a box (to collect the resin) and blowing the resin off with compressed air?
Only 2 pins to heat the VAT? Then where does it have the sensor to maintain a constant temperature?
Is this better or the GK3 with the same screen?
Any temp sensor is just a wire with some resistance. Soooo, maaaaay be it's sensor and heater in one wire.
But wasnt sure if I should wait on a possible s5 ultra release
probably a year+ away
Can I ask what power % you settled on as I saw you choose 45% and 75% at different points in the video, I assume you were demonstrating how to change.
I pre ordered one on the launch day so hoping to get notified of dispatch soon. Decided to hold off on FDM for a little while and just get a second resin.
Just curious of your ballpark UV power as I assume I will have to make adjustments to mine. I would normally just decrease in increments of 5% but if it is as low as 45% for you, I may just jump straight into 50% after initial test print of 100%
Great review! I have 2 questions:
1. What is the PWM value you ended up using?
2. Does the exhaust port seem to be the same as the old S4U?
Great review. It's a nice choice for Jewellers, also 👍
im runing a saturn 1 on its 2ns screen.. print quality is fine for tabletop miniatures. the points of failure in the 4 has me left wondering if I get a 3 or wait for what they do with the 5.
ok so it prints in the cold, but it does it make lines in the print by the heater? gk3 ultra heater is making lines in prints (and thats on top of the other lines in prints problems )
I would gladly upgrade to this in a year or so from my GK2 (which was my first printer), however there are 2 crucial features which stops me from doing so:
Don’t think I’ve had that in my life
But yeah, I hear you on the differences.
What is the advantage of a silicone tray instead of a regular plastic tray?
Probably cleans easier
have you used kexcelled molegrid texture resin , i cant find any real info about it
I just spent tons of money on materials and tools building a heated and sealed case for my Anaycubic M4 Ultra. I wanted to "try 3d printing cheap to see if I like it" but all the extra crap needed to do just to get stuff printing right in my cold cellar could have easily been avoided by just buying this thing lol. I guess I'd still need my ventilation system at least.
I will wait for the Athena II
Soo. Witch of Saturn 4 ultra, 16k mars 5 ultra and anycubic M7 have the best details on the prints? Still haven't decided yet.
Where can I buy the files to all those sweet minis?
Would the new or the old machine be better for a Jeweler? It seems like the higher resolution screen doesn't actually achieve finer details and I might just be better off getting the original model and adding a heater and a light myself
We need a handle or an automatic lid open sensor to open the lid and true auto leveling sensor. Still don't get why these printers don't have a handle.
Its not perfect but for 500$ at half the price of an ultra gear reflex rs and almost 1/3 the price of an ultra gear reflex this printer sounds incredible as my first printer, thank you for your review im glad i waited ❤
Yeah it’s a good call and as I’ve said a few times. One I respect most hobbyists will make
Your affiliate link for the pickle jar is the same as the silicone mat.
I got the Saturn 4 Ultra for Christmas and I'm very happy with it and the only thing about the new model I'm interested in is the Heated Vat but i can invest in a mini heater to fix that
As for the slightly smaller build plate no thanks as some of my larger prints just fit on the plate at the moment
Maybe this is the one for me. And airfilter.
Don't bother with their filter it does literally nothing. Route it out the window if possible.
@Lexst1 i was thinking of anycubics air and pure filter system
Im starting too see a lot of peoples saturn 3 ultra led screens dieing now mine included and ive done maybe a total of 20 prints
So from my understanding the photon m7 max and saturn 4 ultra 16k are about equal because what one excels in the other doesn't.
photon m7 max: it just works and isn't a nightmare to work with/maintain consumables, but is slower if you value quality over speed.
-truly plug n play
-easy to maintain
-large build volume
saturn 4 ultra 16k: has a list of QoL improvements that they're neglecting, is fast and prints high quality albeit about the same quality as it's predecessor after jumping through some hoops.
-fast print speed
-high quality prints
-exposure test built into the printer itself
what lifetime can we expect from the screen? Does anybody know?
And yes I agree we need a phone app as I'm not always able to sit in front of the PC to check on my print
Maybe I should invest in a mini wireless video cam
The screen swap video for the 4 Ultra scares me
I mean. Good, I guess? Makes you aware of what’s ahead with this one.
maybe this isn't the best place to ask, but I'm looking to get a resin printer to do scale model customization 1/16 1/32 1/64 stuff like that. I/m still doing research but what are the best plug and play brands/models? willing to spend 500-600 for a good one. Thanks
I'm torn between this printer and the GK3 Pro. Help a brother out?
This for out if the box ease. gk for longevity, just the process of replacing the lcd is so much easier on those.
I’ve just replaced the screen on my mars 4 and that was not a consumer acceptable activity - and cost me a couple of months of downtime. Also screen replacement cost is a factor
Real question is are they gonna sell an upgrade kit so people that bought the original ultra 4 don’t have to go buy another unit
Would you recommend this over the 12K version, or save the 100 bucks and find a way to heat it yourself. I live in a location where the temperature can be cold and inconsistent.
You're gonna spend money and frustration on heating it yourself. Heating the vat keeps the resin warm itself.
Instead of a Silicon tray i use the Ikea Baggmuck, its thier Shoe dirt tray, costs about 5 EUR fits nice under the buildplate
I still dont see any great advantage over the S3 12k, other than the heater.
I’m skipping this one.
they really need to add flexible magnetic plate
I would rather wait for a 4K DLP Saturn Ultra, 50 microns pixel size if more enough for my usage. Asiga Ultra has a 4K DLP but cost 15K USD. Just hope Elago might be working on a 4K DLP printer. Also would prefer ball screws instead of lead screws, an SD card slot, closed loop stepper motors for Z and tilt axis.
2025. The year most makers shit the bed.
I think the only benefit I’ll get from the 16k over the 12k I have is the heated VAT, Don’t think the switch is worth it
I'm baffled by the desire for a phone app, If I'm not at home where I can either check the progress on my PC , or just look at the printer, It's not like knowing the status of my print is useful information. I can't fix the problem. I'm not near my printer to change anything. Maybe I just don't print enough things that take 12 hours. the majority of my prints are under 3 hours(a lot under one). Or I don't have much of a life (possible)
I did buy the previous printer based on your review, I built a forced air heater for it so I can control the temps.
Saturn Ultra 4 Pro
great and i got my ultra 4 more or less 2 months ago 🙄🤣
Pretty much the same reason the Mars 5 is giving slightly better quality than the Ultra

@@FauxHammer Thx for going the extra mile. If you did everything that you could then UA-cam cursed me directly.
Cheers!
When they stop using toxic chems I’ll buy one. Till then, pass for me.
I think its time to upgrade my OG Saturn.
next time maybe get more than 2 minutes of footage? looping the same goddamn thing over and over
