Robot, thanks for the great how-to videos! Here are a couple tips for the coolant flush: 1) I took a large baggie, cut the bottom open, duct-taped one side of the open top flap to the engine housing below the water pump cover, and let it hang over the exhaust pipe and into the drain pan. Voila! All of the coolant drips through the baggie into the drain pan instead of all over the exhaust pipe and floor. 2) You can get the last remaining 1/2 cup of coolant out of the lower hose by using a spare piece of hose to gently blow into the open coolant reservoir cover, creating some air pressure to blow the rest of the coolant out through the water pump cover. 3) To bleed the system after refilling, run a piece of clear plastic tubing from the drain screw up into the coolant reservoir (so you don't lose any coolant) and start the engine. Let it run for a couple minutes to push coolant up into the tube, then shut off the engine. You'll then get a bunch of air bubbles running up the tube as the fluid in the tube runs back into the thermostat housing. Run the engine again for a minute to make sure that no more bubbles come out. Gently close the bleed screw, torque 2.2 ft-lbs. Done! Total flush takes ~1.5 liters of coolant.
He knows what he's doing! My 2006 will start but won't stay running. I had the engine rebuilt last year and it ran fine until the accelarator cable broke. I got a new complete cable and installed it; what a job. It's not recoiling the way it should so, when I'm well enough to check it out where it enters the handlebar and has so many parts I'll loosen and attempt to rectify that problem. I just wish there was a VESPA shop somewhere closer than Atlanta. I'm 100 miles south and That's that. Buford/85yr old DAV/US Army
Good Morning, an excellent video which has explained all. please can you tell me the part number for the waterpump O ring that Robot replaced during this video, thank you
Thanks to Robot for the great walkthrough. Here's what CAN happen, however, when you tackle this. On a few years old 300, the screws holding the water pump cover are REALLY locked up requiring a dremel to knotch out one screw, and a cold chisel on another. So, a many hours job in the end. So just be prepared and get that beer cold!
Good Job! My 2006 Vespa GT 200 has started to run hot in about 15mins. Where is the thermastat located and how do I check the one fan motor on the left radiator? Many thanks for you great help. Pennington/GA.
An excellent video,do you have some video how to change coolant water and release air from bleed screw, for Piaggio bv350 year 2017. Could you please give me some advice?Kind regards
hello sir, do you know what problems scarabeo 400 year 2007 can have, it stops at a speed of 120-100 km/h, if I stop and wait a bit then start again everything is ok, charging ok, new RPM sensor.
Hi Robot, where can I find technical dimensions and measurements of GTS frames? I would like to bay one GTs crashed in front, fork also, but also need to mesure to see if Vespa is not out of dimensions espetiali fork support?
With this video it was pretty to change coolant, thanks. Just one little twist added after I removed the water pump cover tank and coolant tank cap I used some compressed air (just sealed by a paper towel around the tank fill) to blow more coolant out of the hose. There was quite a bit of coolant in there so it took almost two full bottles of coolant to fill and bleed.
I've got a Piaggio Beverly 500. This is simalair to it. Thanks for the video, very usefull. :) If you come across a Beverly. Could you do some maintanance videos of that too? The engine is used at alot of maxi-scooters. So you would help more people than the piaggio owners :)
If you live in an area with freezing temps/snow and you know you aren't going to ride it in the winter, would you recommend draining the radiator and keeping it empty all winter? Also, can you use just regular, premixed 50/50 coolant? Does it matter if it's the pink or blue kind?
First of all, thank you for this fantastic tutorial. I have a question to ask yourself: in my case all the liquid is gone rusty. How do I have to interpret this? I thank you warmly. (I apologize for my English is not good)
GT200 I know for a fact doesn't have that 'bleeder' valve, on mine have to disconnect the small hose that is next to the thermostat to bleed air out when refilling.
My Piaggio BV500 on idle will hit 3/4 hot temp, does not hit the red danger. but don't feel confturable. while I ride is normal or cooler.... any suggestions? everyone says is normal...
How the hedge do you unscrew the Coolant reservoir cap (plastic black)? I got a new GTS (18my) and I just cant get it open. I got my hand bleeding to open it but failed. (Goal is to remove glovebox) any ideas?
Ive done this on my Beverly 350. But there are a lot of bubbles, tiny bubbles the whole time, 1/2 of the coolant already flowed out. One better alternative I've found: Put the drain into the filler pipe instead of a container beneath the scooter. You don't loose coolant and excess air can flow out.
Sorry Joey, these parts have yet to be added to our website. They'll be up in the next few days. Feel free to give us a call to order. 619-280-1718. Thanks!
Hello this is a very good video i enjoy al your video's very much. for i am working on a vespa 250 is (2007) at the moment. Do you have a tutorial film on overhauling the waterpump? thank you very much and keep up the good work!!! i wish you had a shop in holland!!
Robot, I completed a coolant flush on a '12 GTS300 but could not get the top screw out of the water pump. The container blocked it enough to that I could not get a Phillips head securely in the screw head. To complete the job, I flushed the coolant via loosening the main 1" hose - I am sure I did not get 100% of coolant out. How do you get the top screw out on a '12 GTS300? Also, what is the p/n for the water pump screw?
+Edward Pierce Are you saying that the gas tank is blocking the top screw? We've never encountered this. There could be something wrong with the way the tank is mounted, or possibly your shock setting? You could try getting some kind of angled screwdriver to reach it...Hard to answer without seeing the bike. Thanks!
Edward Pierce Yes, that's helpful. Please email our service department at service@scooterwest.com. Hopefully they'll have some answers fro you. Thanks for watching our videos!
@@VespaMotorsport I understand. Some of the BMW bikes I work on have a problem with being bleed as do some diesels. Vacuum is the only way and worth the investment for anyone that works on bikes :)

Hello, can you make a video about changing the coolant of a Bv350
Thanks very much, I was looking for these instructions for the Beverly 350 and this video fits perfectly as everything is the same!

How often do you replace the thermostat on our vespa? Is it something to do on regular basis.. like every 50.000 km.. or only if needed?

Would it be bad to suck it out with a straw pump?
Robot, does 2021 or new model vespa gts 300 hpe also have a bleed valve or screw? Tia

HELLO ROBOT, I HAVE PIAGGIO X9 200CC .ITS THE SAME MOTOR LIKE BV200? BEST REGARDS . I LIVE AT GUADALAJARA MEXICO.
If I have rusty coolant. What i need to do ? Take off the pipe to flush or change pipe?
Love your work
Thank you! Cheers!

Thant will be awesome
+Roi Cohen It should be very similar to this video. Follow the same steps as above and you should be good. Thanks!
yeah, wish we had more videos on BV500...

BV 500??? Don't you mean BV 350??
From what I know, Piaggio did not make a BV 500.
Thank you.
I have a Vespa bv 200 that keeps dumping coolant out the fill cap and I don't know how to fix it ...

thanks do you know where its located in the bv 500 the excess is different
is it under the seat ?or there is better why to reach it ?
Hi where do I get the day light running kit from please

Is there a problem w/using only distilled water? Pennington/GA
It has a lower boiling point than high performance coolant.
@Robot - Does Vespa Primavera Touring 150 Have a coolant?
No. 150's are air cooled.

Robot,Can you give us the part number for the water pump O ring. Thanks
That would be Part# 485080
Nice to meet you J
Thank you Robot.
Do you ever just vacuum fill?
Yes, that's how we do it here in our repair facility. We wanted to show how someone can do it at home with minimal equipment.
@@VespaMotorsport I understand. Some of the BMW bikes I work on have a problem with being bleed as do some diesels. Vacuum is the only way and worth the investment for anyone that works on bikes :)
The engineer who design Piaggio/vespa forgot to put drain valve for coolant.
Any Suggestions when the coolant is drippin out from the tiny little outlet at the bottom of the waterpump?
That means the water pump is starting to fail.
I love this exhaust
Thankyou for that I’m greatfull to you
