Jon: This is a train network simulator. What I see: A city builder with train tracks. I think you undersold this thing in the intro. I was expecting the towns to be pre-existing and you just being responsible for transit.
This kind of game tickles my inner-backseat-gamer in the worst way. I can't believe how complex you managed to make your network when you still had just 4 things to connect :D
We all know that the video only ended when it did cause jon knew it was only a matter of time before he created the train apocalypse, had he continued.
I'm glad Jon could keep up. The literally-everything-at-once crossing looks like an utter clusterflip and I can't keep up. I bought Railroad Empire because of Jon, and will probably buy this because of Jon, but signals might make cry.
The building part of this game reminds me A LOT of Anno 1800, not only the gameplay of it, like adding modules to your production buildings like that, setting up warehouses and managing the citizens needs (this first resident tier even got the same needs lol) but also the visuals seem to borrow a lof from Anno 1800 (the roads and houses and especially the warehouses). It obviously does the train managing part a lot better since that is rather simple in Anno (but then again, the other managing parts are more complex in Anno). I really like that a lot, I currently play Anno 1800 a lot and want to play something else set in the 1800s and seeing that this seems very similar but with a bit of a different focus I will definitely give this game a try!
I‘m so glad Jon isn’t a real life railroad planner. We would all live in a hellscape of millions of rails and loops everywhere. You couldn’t go over to your friends without crossing 17 rail lines. The amount of people getting hit by trains would be off the charts.
Wait, has Jon never played TTD? That really surprises me if that's the case! The game really reminds me of the train system in that. Me and my friends play hours of Open TTD together, and, while I'm not particularly great compared to my friend who earns billions, I can usually turn a very healthy profit. I used to hate the idea of signals, but it makes more sense the more you do. You just treat them like roads. Give them two-way rails, i.e. two sets of parallel rail, so the trains can travel one way or another, although make entrances and exits to stations one way. Crossovers/junctions should be as rare as possible; it's better to have T-junctions of sorts rather than a four-way crossover. Signals right before any junction. Keep the area directly after any junction clear of signals and more junctions. When you get used to it, you can make ridiculously efficient systems. Or at least systems that don't kill everyone.
Me when I started playing OpenTTD: "Make them all direct lines, I don't understand these signals and the trains keep crashing!" Me some time later: *Making incredibly complex multi-station interchanges complete with 5 lane entry sorts, bridges, tunnels and more* "Easy-peasy-signals-pleasy!"
Interesting. I saw this pass by on Steam earlier and didn't pay it much attention, but this actually looks really good. Graphically it reminds me a TON of Factorio, but it's a city/logistics builder. Love it. Definitely wishlisting this.
As I come within punching distance of forty, I find myself warming to the idea of making a virtual train set. I think it's just what englishmen do when they hit middle age.
@@ManyATrueNerd or see about any local model train clubs. I have a a local one I volunteer at and I do all sorts of things on their layout. Run trains at shows, make scenery, paint rock, minor electrical work, rolling stock maintenance, dusting allooot of dusting
Dude. You will love the Satisfactory end game. It's basically this game in fully immersive 3d. I'd definitely recommend setting up a creative mode playthrough if you haven't already (the whole game is fun, but if you just want to craft materials and move them around the map in big trains and cars and stuff, it takes a while to get there)
Railway empire is a great alternative too, this one looks good tho PS NEVER PUT A SIGNAL RIGHT AFTER A DIVERGE!!!! Leave at least the space of a long train before putting a signal after a diverge, And put them always _before_ a merge if there's enough space
This looks like an amalgam of Anno 1404 and Sid Meier's Railroads!, which are two of my favourite games... Damn it Jon, stop making me buy video games!
While I appreciate the joke, is it really appropriate to name a potato field "tomato"? Trying to explain to people that some of your potatoes come from the tomato field is going to cause all kinds of confusion.
I have to admit, I'm not really a fan of this sort of game, but the sandbox demo seems like a lot of fun. It's almost a shame they'll be adding a story mode. Hopefully it'll have just a straight sandbox mode that you can play from the beginning, rather than HAVE to play story mode first to unlock Sandbox...
Well the demo was up before but I guess they decided they didn't need the demo up anymore. I was super excited for this game but this kind of scummy practice of removing demos that devs are so fond of doing is starting to get on my last nerve...
Day 730 of requesting Zoo Tycoon. It's officially been two years worth of videos I've commented on with my requests. Even if Jon never goes for it, I still love having a reason to comment on every video. A lot's happened, but I'm sure we ain't seen nothing yet!
Man, I just REALLY don't find city builders interesting. Like, what's the goal? How do I win? Where's the plot? Crazy I can watch you play House Flipper or Achaeology Simulator or whatever that was like last week(?) but something like this? Just a total snooze fest for me, even with your humor and stuff. It's so nice to see how much Jon has grown; he almost immediately realized people need to get home!
but where are the tall warehouses for the giraffes?
Jon: This game is so very chill, I love it!

Jon is halfway to summoning Cthulhu with his train network in this demo. Looking forward to the full release.
love jon constantly calling people "fussy plebs" when they ask for basic rights
I already gave them water yesterday, why are they complaining again now?
Dan was right Jon would make a great Tory.
I like to point out he HAD given them what they wanted instead of, I don't know, sending troops to deal with troublemakers.

Just tried the demo out for myself. Super fun! I randomly rolled seed 19206 on max size, and it's a map of Great Britain!
