    Excellent review that I needed. It was long, but valuable so thank you. Keep up the great work! After having a Glidecam slider and a Kessler Pocket Dolly, I needed something more stable and it looks like the K7 is the way to go.

    Best camera equipment reviewer I've seen here on UA-cam! I was unsure about the different Konova slider versions since people tend to only try one. Since you've actually tried them all, I'm convinced that the 100cm K2 would be a great option. Thanks for comparing all Konova sliders in one review, it was really helpful in making a decision.

    Hey Nitsan, great reviews. I recently purchased a second hand Konova K5 slider off ebay and there is a lot of play in the head. It has a slight rocking motion (side to side) which prevents me from getting smooth slides with a fluid head (there also seems to be lots of micro vibrations). I have tried adjusting the head as per konova instructions but it makes no difference. Any advice would be appreciated. Wish I had seen this before I bought the K5 ;)

    Awesome video brother. I am definitely getting the K2. Is there any way possible you can make a short, quick, video showing the effect you get in camera between an 80cm slider and 100cm which you recommend? I was gonna get the 80, but you said you would have 100 if traveling wasn't a problem. I can't find a single video online where people show you what the different lengths of sliders actually look like in camera. Thanks again for another gread video.

      but there are also uk ebay sellers who stock konova sliders and accessories. just check the seller's feedback, if it's good then that's where i'd order from if I wanted UK shipping.

    Hey Nitsan, really informative video and great review! I'm planning to purchase a Konova Slider Jib J1 and I was debating whether to go for a K2 or K3. I know you've mentioned many times that the K3 is less stable with the flex in the carriage but would you recommend the K2 for shooting with a GH4 with a big lens? Also planning to potentially use the slider jib with a Red in future projects so would you still recommend a K2 or should I consider even going up to K5?

    • @nitsan
      @nitsan  9 років тому +1

      hey. I prefer the k2 or k7. ignore the other ones.
      I have the konova j2 jib. it's not very good. won't fit my gym weights and has tons of wobble side to side. also not very lightweight and slow to set up.
      I'd highly recommend the kovacam 9ft jib. much stronger, less weight, faster to set up and costs a similar price as the Konova jib upgrade kit.

    great review. I like the fact that you actually have the items you're reviewing as opposed to some reviewers who go by specs they see on a website. you've got me convinced the k2 is the way to go. haha. my next question - have you tried the pan tilt motor? I will probably get that also if it's a good product.

    • @nitsan
      @nitsan  10 років тому

      I'm glad you liked it. yes I tried the pan tilt motor. see the video I just posted, that's better.

    • @mentalmetal1
      @mentalmetal1 10 років тому

      Nitsan Simantov thanks for replying. my bad though, I actually meant the simpler motorized slider that moves it left to right. have you messed around with that one? the pan tilt is both beyond my wallet and my current cinematography skillset unfortunately.

    • @nitsan
      @nitsan  10 років тому

      mentalmetal1 yeah I've used most of the motor systems they make.
      Again, see the video I just posted. It's a pan tilt slider with no motor needed. Then you can add the msb motor kit to it, which is both compact and low cost.

  • @Aninagin
    @Aninagin 8 років тому

    Hey Nitsan, I really appreciated this video, your explanations are very thorough and clear! So I feel like you might be the guy to ask this tricky question: how do you feel about the K2 or K7 for filming macro shots ? With practice, do you think it's possible to actually move the camera slow and smooth enough (manually), to get a very slow camera movement in close up (what we're filming involves going up to 1:1)? If not, what else might you recommend? Thanks a lot man.

    • @nitsan
      @nitsan  8 років тому +1

      I've not done much macro video myself but in theory it's doable. Recently I spoke to someone who filmed a spider on a rotating platform. The shots were not perfectly smooth when done by hand. ua-cam.com/video/yv2QiLuBQ8U/v-deo.html the platform is very easy to move so it's a bit shaky, i think a slider would be much better.
      Might be best to add a motor. Can be really simple, you get a drill driver or a chicken rotisserie or whatever, tie a string around the rotating part and attach the other end under the camera. Also attach the motor item to the slider somehow. Or a better option, attach the motor under the camera, wrap the string around it, then tie each end of the string to each end of the slider. this way you can move the motor in both directions.

    • @Aninagin
      @Aninagin 8 років тому

      Thanks for the crafty suggestion! We thought about something like this as well, but for most shots we just go filming in the jungle, and a slider is really what we need. But one we can move smoothly very slowly... I don't know how it would work with one of the Konovas. If you hear of anything please let me know! Thanks and best to you.

    • @nitsan
      @nitsan  8 років тому

      well if you have the budget for it you can just buy the konova motor kit. or the konova flywheel. (Invented by me several years ago and eventually konova made it into a product. I don't make any money off it, other than my normal affiliate links.)

    Hi Nitsan I wonder if you can help. I've broken my carriage on the K2 (sheared a bolt) have seen replacement carriages on amazon but they have 2 adjustment rings as opposed to the one on my current K2. do you think this will fit my rails or are the rails wider on each track? The amazon advert doesn't state which track the carriage is made for. Thanks in advance for any help you could offer.

    Hi, Nitsan. Found your insightful review and your wealth of experience with Kanova products very reliable and helpful. I have the K5 and am considering the Kanova Slider Jib full bundle (recently, on their website) for greater variety of videography such as craning whilst incorporating a pan-and-tilt. I read your earlier reply to Bhavesh that the Kanova jib slider J2 was wobbly, heavy and with long set-up time. Do you reckon I am wasting my time considering this new bundle?

    • @nitsan
      @nitsan  7 років тому

      Hey. Yes the J2 jib I have is not good.
      If you have a car then getting a jib could be useful, but go with a better one that's a dedicated jib. Personally I keep my kit more compact for most of my shoots.

    • @a.rashidyusoff5199
      @a.rashidyusoff5199 7 років тому

      Hi again, Nitsan. Is the J2 like the bundled slider jib they are promoting now at their website? The latter has a motorised pan-tilt head. But yes, if it is wobbly and a pain to set up... then it's a no go. Thanks again, Nitsan. BTW, keep up the great work.

    • @nitsan

      I'm not sure if it's the same, I think they've upgraded since the J2.

    Hey Nitsan, great video as expected.
    I don't want to annoy you with product recommendation request but are there base plates with 2 screws at the bottom to mount them safely without moving on a steadycam?

    • @nitsan
      @nitsan  10 років тому

      do you mean quick release plates?
      The giottos ones i use have lots of screw holes at the bottom and they also come with two screws for the top plate which i use together when i put a slider on them.

    • @nitsan
      @nitsan  10 років тому

      but you can also consider using some rubber or silicone. that can usually prevent spinning for something like that.

    • @FrozenSkiller
      @FrozenSkiller 10 років тому

      Yes I do but I want to securely mount the base plate to the stabilizer.

    • @nitsan
      @nitsan  10 років тому

      yeah that's what I mean, some rubber should do it. or two screws. the Giottos are great.

  • @peacockpics
    @peacockpics 9 років тому

    Hey Nitsan.
    I bought the K2 120cm after viewing a few of your videos but I messed it up on the first day.
    I removed the tripod screw from the slider plate and screwed my heavy Sachtler Ace fluid head tripod head directly into the hole. For an hour it worked great and I could pan and tilt as I tracked along the slider. But the pressure exerted by moving the tripod head widened the plate's hole and made it too wide meaning the head would flop from side to side until it started falling out altogether.
    I spoke to Konova and they sent me another plate, although I noticed this time there seemed to be no threads on the center plate hole.
    My question is how should I add my tripod head to the top of the slider? In your videos you seem to have something inbetween your head and your plate but I can't find any info on what that is. In your earlier videos you had a metal adapter box thing but you don't seem to be using that anymore. The screw at the bottom of my tripod head doesn't seem to come out so I need to find a way to screw it onto the slider plate.
    You're the expert on all things Konova, what would you recommend? They didn't have any advice for me when I emailed.
    Thanks Nitsan.
    Alex,
    Peacock Studios

    • @nitsan
      @nitsan  9 років тому

      hey alex.
      there's not supposed to be a thread in the slider's plate. its too thin to work like that.
      the only way I know is to use an adapter like you see in my older videos. Google nitsan tripod adapter, I sell them for this exact reason. I have a few in stock and they are £30 each. (not the old silver box, the new one is black and round.)

    • @peacockpics
      @peacockpics 9 років тому

      Nitsan Simantov Thanks for the response Nitsan. I found your video - In stock: bowl-to-flat tripod adapter (75mm Fluid Head to Slider) - which gives more info.
      I can't find any links online to buy your adapter nor does your Ebay page seem to currently stock them. Am I missing something? One other quick question, as a ball head under the adapter would be superfulous if I'm using a fluid head on top, can you recommend which Giotto quick release you recommend for attaching to the plate? I presume it would give enough room for the Konova screw to connect through to the base of your adapter.
      Sorry for the questions, it must be really frustrating answering the same questions over and over, I did spend a lot of time trying to find the answers among your videos though! There's just so many!
      Thanks,
      Alex

      Ah, yeah, i need to add it to ebay. if you'd like to buy one then send me an email and we can arrange it.
      The giottos mh-631 or 621, whichever you prefer. i like the shorter one.
      I didn't understand this question:
      "I presume it would give enough room for the Konova screw to connect through to the base of your adapter."

    • @peacockpics
      @peacockpics 9 років тому

      Nitsan Simantov
      Sorry I was a bit unclear there. I meant: So I'm guessing the tripod screw that comes with the Konova slider plate is long enough that it will both clear through the Giotto plate and still have enough length to connect to the adapter. Or do you connect the Konova to the Giotto with one screw and the Giotto to the adapter with another screw? I'll send you an email to make the purchase.
      Thanks,
      Alex

    I am looking for a slider but cant decide which one I would start off with.
    The ones I am looking at are Digislider 50cm, Edelkrone SliderPLUS small, Konova K2.
    Have you tried anyone the ones Ive mentioned above and if so, which one would you recommend? or would you perhaps go with another slider/brand (like Konova) for your first slider?
    Thanks in advance!
    /Karl

    • @nitsan
      @nitsan  9 років тому

      hey.
      Here are my thoughts about all these:
      Digislider - No. It has no roller bearings (much less smooth). it's built using igus parts, that was fine in 2009, not anymore.
      Edelkrone - Very expensive, especially with the price of each accessory, and gives no big advantages over a normal slider. A tripod is already long-ish when folded, having a shorter slider doesn't help at all, it weighs the same or more than others, and the longer ones are super expensive.
      Konova K2 - Gives good value for money. And it's motor kit is super cheap too.
      RatRig - Insanely cheap and works really well.
      Ifootage - Far better than anything else on the market, especially after you add a konova MSB motor kit - and also use the extension rails from it to make my awesome DIY pan/tilt system (google nitsan pan/tilt), which can be used for live motion or with the motor. The flywheel included with it is enough to make it better than anything else, but add to that the fact that it is infinitely extendable with almost no extra carrying weight, and that it will fit in most suitcases, just makes it totally awesome.

    • @ekarlun
      @ekarlun 9 років тому

      Nitsan Simantov Thanks for the fast reply and answer!
      I did some calculations with some super awesome visuals in Excel in order to see which one is most affordable.
      All sliders are "small" versions and calculated for shipping to Sweden.
      Also, all prices comes from their own websites except iFootage from gearcontact.com.
      Konova K2 - Slide: 600mm, Cap: 12kg, Cost: $414 (inc crank kit $200, no tax)
      Rhino Slider Carbon 2ft - Slide: 600mm, Cap: 6kg, Cost: $499 (no crank kit)
      Edelkrone SliderPLUS small - Slide: 400mm, Cap: 8kg, Cost: $559 (no tax)
      iFootage Shark S1 - Slide: 640mm, Cap: 7kg, Cost: $694
      I would lie if I didnt say that iFootage is one sexy beast but it is unfortunately also the one that cost most. I'm atleast going to wait until christmas for any changes in price.
      If you have anything to add or anything that might help then I would be greatful, it will probably help others that cant decide.

    • @nitsan
      @nitsan  9 років тому

      ***** cool.
      Don't bother with the crank kit, it's useless without a rotating weight.
      Makes a big difference to the price of the Konova. Or for even less money, the ratrig slider, which looks simple but is surprisingly good.
      The ifootage is well worth the extra $$$ if you want the best slider around, if not, don't waste hundreds on the other two, get a cheap one like the K2 or ratrig and invest the money you save in other stuff. Tripod, fluid head, glidecam, lighting, etc.
      You can also consider the Came-TV slider, it's very similar to the ifootage but with no extension rails, and it costs the same as the Konova+crank+diy weight.

    • @ekarlun
      @ekarlun 9 років тому

      Nitsan Simantov Hi again, Im still looking around for the iFootage but on their website they urge people to buy from known distributors.
      So my question is, who are Rollei and are they legit?
      Because it seems like they have some sort of partnership with iFootage.
      Thanks for all the help.

      If you get it from one of the main eBay stores that sell Konova products then you will get a genuine one.

      sorry, losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/pho/5134423411.html
      here is a link to a craigslist post of one I want to buy, the guy said he isn't sure which model it is, and i thought all of them specify the model on the camera mounting part

      I doubt it's fake. I've never seen a fake Konova. My first guess would be that it's stolen, if the guy doesn't know what version he bought.
      Or I guess it might be a really old Konova with the newer feet attached. I've never used an older Konova but I remember seeing upgrade kits which upgraded older sliders with the newer feet.
