Since the Dawn of Gaming, windmills have been a common backdrop to all our favorite RPGs. And in all but one classic clicker, they are consistently, notoriously pointless
It could possibly be an association with Don Quixote that passed into public consciousness at some point.
I'm almost certain it isn't but it's a nice sentiment so I'll choose to believe it is
Pointless?! We drained not just lakes, but a whole sea with these things! I hope you get the griep, vlerk! Kind regards, a Dutch guy
One of my favorite pointless top tens so far. You seem like a great person to have tea with.
Damn, that dragon wing windmill is metal as hell.
Actually, it's wings
I cant believe I never noticed that the twin peaks building had a giant windmill on top lol
Regarding 1, the wings being dragon wings makes sense. If I remember correctly, the Dragonmaw orcs had quite the large foothold in the Twilight Highlands, and many dragons massacred are spread throughout the zone, on hooks, on the ground, or strung up. I believe this was a way of showing the Twilight's Hammer that their drakes, who were the stolen brood of Alexstrasza, meant nothing to them in terms of offensive capabilities - since they held all power over the ones that tried to revolt against their shared master (Deathwing). Sinestra, if you remember, is below the citadel within the Highlands, corrupting red dragon eggs. I assume these drakes were forced into servitude once they came of age, as many of Alexstrasza's eggs had been stolen for Deathwing's army. Perhaps the wings were a trophy taken by the Horde, or just a good use of resources.
That and the Dragonmaw themselves enslaved the Red Dragonflight for a good few years under Deathwings Influence as part of his various dealings with the old Horde during the Second War using the Dragon Soul and extorting Alexstraza with the destruction of the flights Eggs and that went on all the till a few years after WC2. Might of just been built all the way back then and reinforced later.
Either way, kinda messed up to imagine coming here as a Drac'thyr or something.
I was referencing that, yes. That's why I said shared master, and then Deathwing. @@thewalrus45
I don't think many Dracthyr would care, considering they were with Neltharion for so long. I feel that theyve killed their fair share of dragons. @@FancyTophatDude
You've definitely hit critical mass in your storytelling engagement dude I haven't spent this enjoyable of a 10 minute period in years lmao keep at it brobeans
God, yes, the Nagrand windmills are THE windmills I love the most. It helps that the Nagrand aesthetic in general is so comfy.
Dude Seeing your top 10s really makes my day. I havent actually watched the video just yet, but I just wanted to let you know that you light up my day with your videos
"this is like figuring out how they built the pyramids"
The lore nerd in me got mad when you called the Highmountain Tauren "Taunka"
Fantastic video as always dude! I love that your natural curiosity has evolved these into bite sized history lessons, both for Azeroth and the real world.
Man these are lovely! Keep on rocking!
3:45 that's probably some Tauren depiction of the Earth Mother, idk. Looks cool
It blows my mind to this day, how spot on, impressive and inspiring the design choices and assets were for vanilla, timeless
I always appreciated that you can see the grain grinding stones on the Tauren windmills. Just gives a little bit of flavor, and creates random "bakeries" for RPers.😅
I love the windmills in the outland in the Nether lands 😜
I think nr. 9 is the best one.
I always wait until the next list of yours come out they are so intresting and filled with information
I have to say this is a pretty cool video. It really… blew me away! 🙂👍
In the Netherlands we also used these guys to pump away water and create land. We even made an entire new province relatively recently (not sure if that was with windmills, but probably) 😅
Greetings from the Netherlands!
I like to think the wind in netherstorm IS actual wind, but the energies of the atmosphere are so messed up and broken from.. well, look at the place. The pockets of anti-gravity with floating rocks are no different than the pockets of wind spinning the turbines, it's a zone of pure chaos in its weather, gravity, and arcane energies. At least that's always the vibe it gave me c:
Top 10 staircases (the main totem in thunder bluff was inspiration)
Kharazan stairs to moroes
Maybe the Tauren built that stuff in flight mode as druids, though I imagine it's not easy to assemble a windmill in bird form.
I usually don't watch these, but I am Dutch, so I was drawn to this one.
Can't wait for pointless puddles
Top 10 upload day is best day.
Having been around azeroth for 20 years, I can safely say the BFA was actually a solid expansion... if you forget most of what you knew about sylvanas and see her as some new enemy doing enemy things. If you just forget about her, BFA was pretty good. (Ok and a lot of the azerite stuff).
Shadowlands, however... yeah what a complete cluster that was. Only good thing about it was the art team of course.
Edit: And WTF I have played twin peaks BG many times and NEVER noticed that wind mill. Wow.
Even though this is still a joke, you could 100% make a video of Pointless Top 10 dungeons, raids, expansions... At least in my opinion
Pointless dungeon is a fun idea like. "Nobody goes to this dungeon" "This dungeon doesn't have any impact on the story" "this dungeon name is funny"
So many possibilities
@@AvelineMelena Exactly! People always avoid this, it's not even part of the finder....
Glad to know someone agrees with me on the BFA art
I think the windmill in Twin Peaks BG is from Red Dragons because the Dragonmaw clan is right near the Ruby Dragon grounds, like just past the Twilight Highlands.
Oh yeah boy. Time for more relaxing WoW videos that remind me of good times and how ive gotten so much older and now i gotta go cry in a corner.
Agamand Mills are iconic but I had completely overlooked that dragon wing one
Top 10 windmills in WoW? What's the point to watch such a thing?
Oh, the answer is in the video title... Fine, you've convinced me!
Come to the Netherlands and we'll do a tour of the "zaanse schans" which is a famous area with windmills :D
I love these! If you ever make a dragons video, there is one named Saphiredos in Algeth'ar Academy, a Potion Hoarder with a bunch of potions around him with a cauldron behind him. He's near the upper back right part on the map (62.7, 36.8).
I've always enjoyed the view at Twin Peaks.
Have you done a top 10 lists of steps in wow?
Biggest shocking fact for me was that wowcrendor stated he doesnt know much about the lore, he knows wow and azeroth so well im so surprised
LETS GOOOO ANOTHER TOP 10
The things in Area 52 aren't windmills or anemometers. They're SAMOPHAGES! Remember those goblins in Ratchet who send you all over hell's half-acre trying to find one? They don't even know what it is; they just want to steal it.
Apparently, they figured out a use for it. Powering the buildings in Outland.
The Booty Bay statue will forever be associated with quality from these videos.
i cant imagine that water mills came after windmills... research is one thing but thinking over what information you've gathered from research is just as important.
i love crendor
Warcraft orcs: Enslaves red dragon flight.
Wrath of the lich king orcs: We're sorry.
Cataclysm orcs: Haha, sike!
Windmills are great and I have no idea why I love them so much. If I had the option I would live in a windmill.😆
5:09 the West Fall windmills are iconic yes but they're also the ugliest windmills on the list.
im pretty certain there is no engineer trainer in TB in classic, but they did already have all the windmills and elevators
He was sequestered in his study..
As a dutchman, i approve of this episode.
Crendor's favorite windmill is Coach Mike Ditka
Thats a lot of giants. Don Quixote would be in heaven fighting them all
One kinda weird aspect about Warcraft is that a lot of the things that you just kinda assume are "European medieval" about early vanilla WoW assets, like farmhouses and windmills, are actually weirdly 19th century American west-styled. You mentioned the windmill-pumps for water, but if you look at some of the houses or the barns, they definitely draw more on Americana than anything medieval. It's weird and neat once you notice it. This probably also influenced how common mesas and canyons and pairie-like environments are in the game.
Yesss mills of wind!!
Crendor, the area is literally called the "Nether Storm".
Horde (well really, dragonmaw)force bred red-dragons, that’s probably why the wings are red
Lol, I never noticed the twin peaks windmill.
Still waiting for Top 10 treasure troves. You know, that feeling you see all that gold, but you cant pick it up kind of thing.
During Warcraft 2 the Horde used enslaved Red Dragons as their primary air unit. In the lore the Dragonmaw Clan kidnapped Alexstrasza, forced her to mate with her consort for more eggs, and used the Dragon Soul to enslave them. It's probably one of the more fucked up things in WoW's lore.
They’re called windmills because they mill the wind.
Love me a good windmill
straw? it's crude hide :D
4:08 thats a significantly inferior milling design, as it would require an attendant to continuously replace the grain underneath the mill stone.
Aren’t the ones in netherstorm samophlanges? I guess they are pointless windmills regardless
Commenting so the algorithm knows we like pointless windmill facts.
"... AND PROBABLY NOT ENTIRELY ACCURATE." -- yep that sums up your UA-cam career, my freind! LOL
shout out to all my windmills in TF Glades
You called the Highmountain Tauren 'Taunka' at 4:19 so I thought I'd let you know that you will be getting cancelled on twitter in the next few hours. It's been a fun ride.
Good luck.
We should use wind alot more now
Earth mother's bounty is not for the moose tauren not the Tonka. Race escapes me
It would seem to reason that the windmill would have a mill inside, granted i am profoundly ignorant in the ways of windmills.
There's one in the beginning of Flight of Dragons that kills a duck. And then those drunks laugh at the Green Wizard
Those in area 52 are not windmills, theyre samoflanges, the ones they use to power goblin airships.
Yes....How did the Tauren build these structures. I suspect: aliens. Most likely Draenei.
Taunka? You ment high mountain?
Very normal non-content! You approach the topics regularly and each video is okay. 🐊☁🏈
WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY
Ok peko
when are we getting pointless top 10: patches of grass?
Samophlange! Not a windmill :(
GEKOLONIZEERD
Number 8 is not a windmill, it's a samophlange.
also, the tin-blade windmills shown in number 5 are called Eclipse windmills, which were invented in Odanah, WI at the mission in 1866, and were then later mass manufactured out of Chicago in the 1860s.
#8 isn't a windmill or turbine at all! It's a SAMOPHLANGE! Come on, people! Focus!
First👀
Do pointless top 10 crendor videos
s
wow very cool I love windussy!
