Eli that was fkn epic bro.. You pretty much saved Jao's life.. Of course with others help.. And thats Epic.. I'm stoked I sat through the whole hour.. Was stoked I could listen in.. Just one thing I'd like to say is please give respect to the old crew that didn't have inflation vests and jet skis etc.. 30 something years ago I watched Wayne Lynch Surf 20 foot +"waves in southern Victoria with no one around at all a mile of the rugged coast all by himself.. I know for a fact nobody would do that today except Wayne.. Now that's the real definition of a Legend so let's not forget.. Cheers 🙂

I was just on Northshore for the first time in October. In my mind I discovered Waimea lol no one was out and I asked the lifeguard “is that a good wave right there it looks good is it safe to ride?” They’re like yeah that’s a really good wave. So I went to the store and bought a mini boogie and mini boogied pinballs they said it was called. One guy paddled out after me. To see those clips of Waimea and hear your stories was extra cool for me just having been there! And the Eddie I didn’t realize was there either! Sunset too I got to ride with 4 guys out on the outside! 4-6 ft they called it but it was 10-12ft Cali size! Waves are next level there. Thanks for sharing the stories and knowledge! It is such a beautiful place you all grew up in. And your lucky it’s still not as crowded as Cali. For me to get such good waves to myself was heaven. Love your podcast!! ❤

Imagine the old school big wave surfers....no leash, no jet ski, no floatation vest, now if you don't have a jet ski you don't deserve to be out there lol. If someone wants to risk their life surfing in raw form let them, thats more respected in my opinion.

How does it even get noticed when someone gets unconscious on such a crowdy day at pipe? I can imagine that an accident like the one of Joao stays unnoticed really quick, as the surfers in the line up don't really see it or are just focused on themselves and the guys at the beach already have their eyes on the other surfers getting barreled. Do the lifeguards allways have an eye on every guy that had a wipe out until they are out of the danger zone again?
PS: Such an interesting and insightful podcast. Always great to listen to your stories and hear your insights. Keep on going and stay down to earth as you are🤙

Osterizers has some rebar. My buddy impailed his leg on it like 100 stitches long. I’ve seen it 3 pronging in the summertime. It was close to the shorebreak just down from Dukes restaurant. Maybe Westin removed it when they developed Airport beach but I don’t think so. Also the gnar gnar left at Kahului Harbor is notorious for railroad tracks and rebar against the rock piles. Sharky too… Beware.

58:24 his body functions started up again his brain needed oxygen still.. 1:03:05 thats exactly what it is they did not experience life time in those 10 minutes or whatever it was like you. It could feel like an eternity or nothing.deep stuff. You see how amazing the body is its not just you there are living cells working for you and subconscious doing a lot of work to manage them. Like digestion. Turning food to poop doesnt magically happrn even though it is amazing . Hes ok right? I typed this before than said the rest. Hes 100 right denial and panic is never good. Never let fear and panic take over. Do what you can as much as you can while you can… whatever happens then ..
