I love my A5 Roterfaden. I don’t use their notebook inserts but my own. I think they’re awesome to hold notebooks together that are different sizes. I use it to bundle my fountain pen ink exploration notebooks. I have a thick A5 Regalia notebook, a super thin A5 tomoe river notebook from Goulet Pens, and a traveler’s company regular size dotted insert. 3 different kinds of paper to test out inks.
I find that you can place the clips further along the notebook as you write so you don’t feel them at all. So when you get close to the middle where the clips are resting and you begin to feel them more, just open them and pace them in the last page of the notebook. No more interference.
Thanks Job💡German born & raised(🇺🇸) the Taschen Begleiter I’m confused over also.Unless I’m wearing huge pocket cargo pants or shirt-it’s not as handy as the Hobonichi. The softer cover on the Hobo makes it actually great to stuff & go🙂 German engineering of clips (?) Have a great time 💚🌞
I have been using a B6 size Roterfaden cover and love the flexibility of the system! I agree that the clips are a bit prohibitive if you’re using a chunkier journal and also want to carry other notebooks. Currently in my Roterfaden, I have a compact B6 Sterling Ink Common Planner and 1 notebook insert (using a LIFE brand book from JetPens), and the Common Planner lays flat really nicely for writing. A tip that I learned is for the thicker journals, attach the clips through a clear cover and not the actual book, it lessens damage to the binding! I am also using that same A6 HON and love it, but was surprised with how flimsy the cover was as well. Great video as always, Job! 😊
I didn't expect the return of "wet a** ink" LOL Thank you for sharing the new planners! I appreciate your honest commentary and transparency on gifting/non/affiliate links :D
Thank you for reviewing the Roterfaden as I was curious with the notebooks but in A6 size. The HON is what I submitted before on the survey and to see it come to life is a dream come through!
I also have a hobinichi weeks in the cat tie cover and thought the same thing regarding flimsy. It’s my first hobinichi so just assumed that’s how they were. I guess things to keep in mind for next year! The roterfaden looks like such a neat planner, thanks for the overview!
A little late to the party, but I love Hobonichi! I Hobonichi was my first introduction to the planner community, and I filled them up so much! I played with everything from the A6 to the A5 and the weeks. Honestly, I haven't purchased a Hobonich in a few years due to the cost. And because I went nuts with my purchases at Traveler's Factory in 2022, I am using up my hoard before I make any more purchases. However, I still often go to Loft or Tokyo Hands to look at the planners in person! I have seen the HON and flipped through it in person, and I can confirm the covers are the same as the Weeks. I feel so nostalgic for Hobonichi! That is a shame to hear about the tomoe river paper, though. While the store samples looked fine in person, that's not the same as actually testing them out to see how they perform with different kinds of pens. But unless Traveler's Company or Hobonichi makes an amazing release, I unfortunately won''t be making any purchases anytime soon. The only exception I made was to get the monthly calendar insert for 2024.
I heard you say in a video last year that you wanted to try out the Roterfaden this year and I've been waiting to see the video ever since, there is really not a lot of content on them compared to other companies. I purchased an A5 SO_20 (made with a suede interior, no closing mechanism and it's the thinnest of all, even the WK_12 which is also a suede interior). I also purchased the A6 WK_12 (I know splurge much). I'm using the A5 as a school workbook and the A6 as a cover for my Hobonichi A6 English. I will say a part of me is sad that I didn't get the felt because I am so afraid to permanently stretch the suede that I don't get much use out of the pockets. But I do wildly prefer the way the WK_12 looks in many respects. I also agree with what you say that it certainly doesn't seem super premium, but the suede really does. I hope one day they re-release the A5 Slim I think it might be nice to switch between the regular TN and the Roterfaden depending on your needs. One of the biggest pluses especially compared to TN is the standard size!! Even though the Roterfaden insert doesn't take a fountain pen, its no problem! Here is a good link with notebooks that fit: blog.phidonpens.com/blog/2021/notebooks-that-will-fit-in-your-roterfaden-43wxr
I have a Roterfaden A5 cover just like yours and I found that I also don’t like the metal clips. Roterfaden has another meaning which is a bit more metaphorical … a „roter Faden“ in a story for example is a recurring theme, a unifying thread… is it also „a red thread“ in English ? I find that interesting since you could interpret the name of the cover being the thread that holds your stories together… like a „roter Faden“ going through your life story… am I making any sense at all ??? 😂😂😂 Oh, and I love the thin HON covers compared to the thick Moleskine covers… they‘re somewhere between their hardcover and softcover books… which I like. 😊
For me, I loooove that the HON isn’t completely hard. I’m generally someone who prefers soft covers though. And I only got the HON because it has cats on it so I was pleasantly surprised that the cover was somewhere between hard and soft 😊
Anyone help with sizes.....I have started a travelers journal with a September Leather travelers journal. I do love it but I find being left handed I need to remove the inserts to write nicely and smoothly. The Roterfaden seems like a great option. What size would be the closest in size and does anyone have any suggestions?
I must give my cudos to the pronounciation of the Roterfaden Taschenbegleiter. As a German Human you pronounced it reeaaallyy good. Very proud of you :D Also Tasche in this case means bag instead of pocket. :D But the Word Tasche can be used in both ways.
Thanks so much for sharing! You’re doing a great job pronouncing “Roterfaden Taschenbegleiter”! 😂 In German, “Tasche” can mean both “pocket” and “bag”, so I’m assuming this is why it is called “Taschenbegleiter”. I’ve actually never had one, even though I’m from Bavaria, Germany, but I love my A5 and A6 HON. I actually like that the cover of the HON is a bit more flexible and rather thin. Makes it compatible with a lot of their trifold covers.
Very interesting product. However I think it’s a bit over engineered with the metal clips. I like my notebooks to lay as flat as possible like midori books do. The good old tn is the way to go 😅
Not a huge issue, but your audio is a little fuzzy on this one (if that makes sense?). Still loved the video, I'm scoping out what I want to use next year so this was interesting!
I just yesterday ordered my first Roterfaden and I can’t wait to receive it! Thanks for your review!

Thanks for the tip, Maria!
Nice to see and hear from you Job! Hope you're feeling better Job🤗

Have a great time 💚🌞
I love Roterfaden’s. The very best system I ever owned.

Oh good to know! I will defs try the clear cover on cover as a way to attach it! Thank you for the tip, friend!

The wet a** ink returns!! Thanks so much for watching, friend!

These planners look amazing, I love the seahorses ☺☺☺
Taschen means in German Pocket and Bag. I think it is more a companion for your bag to carry all your notes and planner needs in one place.
Thank you for your interpretation!

OMG I love that translation/double meaning. It makes it feel more meaningful! Thank you for sharing this with us!

It is the non restaurant pronunciation haha but I love the memory association! Rise up HON gang!! Thanks for sharing the video!
Thanks friend!
Thanks for Sharing ❤i love planners too saludos from México
Thanks for watching, Jesus!
i love getting my planner supplies from genovia!! 😂 the roterfaden is very cool though, i've never seen something like that before
Thank you to Mia Thermopolis for helping me get my planner supplies haha! Thanks for watching, friend!
i love ur videos
HON's! I loved that restaurant! They re-named it to Han-Lin in New West - and it's just as tasty!
Whatt! No way! I gotta head to New West to try it! Thank you for the information, Sam!

Thank you so much and thank you for the insight about "Tasche!" Thank you :)
I would use the Roterfaden daily solely because of the felt feeling 🤣
It's soooo soft! I hope you're doing okay, friend!
