We were made aware about similarities in one of our songs with the release of Holding Absence a few days ago. We took our time to contemplate on how to handle this situation as well as talk to Holding Absence and their team about how to resolve all of this. Please regard the following statement from our side.
First of all, we are very sorry to everybody, who feels dissapointed by us for keeping quiet until now and of course to Holding Absence, who got dragged in this discussion. Here we want to give you an explanation of how this could happen and how we handle this situation. We are in close exchange with Holding Absence and already found a amicable solution that both of us are happy with. There are no bad feelings between both of our bands. Same goes for the featured act, that added their voice to the otherwise finished song.
The writing process of our songs goes through several steps before the release of even a teaser and until a couple of days ago, noone integrated in the process noticed these similarities. We are fans as well musicians, but we also don't know every song. This doesn't change the similarities, but we feel obliged to state this. But how can this still happen? The discussion centers around a specific part in the song, a part that was written by a third party enganged in our song writing process, which is something very common and we trusted in the originality of this segment. We even were excited about it as we didn't know about its supposed origins at that point. No question that we won't cooperate with this party again.
Again, we are deeply sorry, that this happened. We will do our best to make sure that such a situation will not occur a second time. The first step will be taking down our song from all platforms.
Much love
TDA
Ty for removing my friend’s strike
But what about all of the other instrumentation? They are practically identical and cannot be blamed on a 3rd party.
Seems like some vague deflection.
I don't buy it. Not to mention having a 3rd party write your song is almost as bad as plagiarizing, and somehow you managed to do both
@LukeXGJ bruh, what else are you going to do with that melody? It's not very hard to think musicians know how to write songs and thus could come out with similar to identical melodies and chord progressions; especially being in a similar genre. People write other bands songs all the time without even realizing it; sometimes you listen to a song, forget about it, have a "new" melody pop up in your head and boom, we get this.
A Crooked Melody vs A Crook Melody
This is just the "lemme copy your homework" "ok but change it up a little" meme but in real life
One thing he forgot to mention is tonality, you can have all the same musical elements but have a different tone to them and sound very different, but it's exactly the same guitar tone, bass level, drums, and synth sound more or less.
It took me two or three listens to hear the same melody. Singing like Nik did made me realise it's same 😂
He actually mentioned it
And same tempo bro…
“Can we get Holding Absence?”
“We have Holding Absence at home”
Holding Absence is so damn good
Yup
Brutally underrated
Sadly, they are really boring live
@@DasKanaldeckerreally? I saw them opening for Electric Callboy in April and considering the mood (venue being half full and all) they were fine and tried really hard to fire up the crowd.
criminally underrated band. new album goes so hard
This isn’t the first time that this band completely copied a song. Compare these:
The Disaster Area - This is the new Age
The Ghost Inside - Engine 45
The Disaster Area - Fox Hunt
Bad Omens - Glass Houses
The Disaster Area - Deathwish
Bring Me The Horizon - Empire (let them sing)
They can’t really talk their way out of it, it really is plagiarism 🤷🏼
I can't see new age anywhere on spotify lol or youtube for that matter
They copied caskets and didin't even bother to change the title 💀
Caskets - Glass Heart
TDA -Glasshearts
@@doomedguy5930I thought you may have just used that as an example due to the names, but nope. I went and listened to TDAs one and fuck me, spot on 😂😂😂😂
Can't even find Fox Hunt anymore, was it copyright claimed??
@@niklas603 seems like they deleted every single of these tracks cause now that everyone detected that there are more stolen tracks they worry about their reputation. But I got the songs on my channel in a compilation
Discovered Holding Absence when I saw them live opening for Silverstein and Amity Affliction. They were great and glad I found them
That was a great tour, caught them in Worcester, MA
Saw that tour in Seattle. What an amazing show!
Caught the Philly leg off the tour and it was amazing :)
@@RJ-V1C4R10U5ayy the palladium! Now they are my favorite band
I sometimes forget how much Nik understands music
If any of the American/Canadian audience don’t know Holding Absence please check them out best Welsh band rn
I'm European can I still check it out
@@H1SD No sorry.
casey has something to say about that
@@Will_1503casey are like their sibling at this point
One of the best UK bands currently, full stop
I write songs for my band, and sometimes listen back to them and go like "Damn I really ripped off x song with this."
This made me feel much better about that.
The way I see it, humanity has existed long enough that there is no longer such thing as a truly original idea.
If one musician is noodling around over a track and they play something cool, chances are somewhere, sometime, another completely unrelated musician was noodling around and played the same thing.
@@Official_MikeyT Thank you for that, that also helps.
You might play around with something and make something that sounds very similar. This video here though is literally identical, it is very clear that the song was copied and threw in a couple notes here and there to try not to seem suspicious
Holding absence- in circles…is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard
It’s second to Like A Shadow for me
Nik is becoming the Elizabeth Zharoff of instrumentals and I'm here for it
They are the tribute band.... Witholding Adsense
If they go to court, this video might be used as evidence.😂
The Greatest Mistake of my Life is one of the greatest albums I have ever heard in my entire life.
I personally really like the entire album by Holding Absense. "The Noble Art of Self-Destruction" is one of the best album names I've ever heard, even despite the copy-cat riffs.
HA are the ones that got copied, so I'm not sure you need to clarify being a fan of them
@@Dresden_Novafacts
The album is my third favourite of 2023, saw them live in November and they were really good
@@Dresden_Nova that's what I meant. They were copied.
@snakeeyes9246 but then why "despite" the fact they were copied?
Holding absence spanks.
It’s because it’s a Splice sample. Anybody who has a membership can download that sample and produce it as they wish.
It’s bound to happen if tons of people are using the same library for their sounds.
The Disaster Area, as much as I like them for being a good local german band, sometimes wear their influences too much on their sleeve. And by that I mean that this is not the first time. Kingdom Come's breakdown is like Shadow Moses' but sped up, Talking To Myself obviously, then there's a line in the already Sempiternal-era BMTH inspired Baptize that says "I'll bow for your king when he shows his true face".
Talking To Myself is still rather different from "A Crooked Melody" in terms of execution, but the similarities speak for themselves. That being said, TDA also do have some more unique bangers, such as Blackout or Martyr. They aren't a bad band at all, or are intentional copy cats. They're just a little too subtle with their influences lol.
That being said, this comparison made me want to check out the new Holding Absence album. I listened to their 2021 one, so I'm really curious!
A little too obvious with their influences, not subtle
This may sound stupid but I need some justification to listen to TTM because I actually like it very much:
I listened to ACM when it released and was like "nice synth and beginning of the chrous, but I don't like the rest" and never listened to it again since. I actually can't stand the way the chorus resolves...
And now I listen to this copied version with the parts I previously liked already and with even more parts that are actually my jam and I like the total package very much. They copied it sooo blatantly that it almost is like a BMTH inspired remix version? But with different lyrics and such so it definitely isn't that. So but yeah I think that's what I am going to roll with... Yeah... I think that I am going to pretend that this is a cover+adaptation - Gaslighting myself
@@StiltmanableThey posted a statement. Apparently both bands have gotten 3rd party influence and got their parts written by someone else 😂 and now they have cut ties with that 3rd party.
This isn't the first time that this band completely copied a song. Compare these:
The Disaster Area - This is the new Age
The Ghost Inside - Engine 45
The Disaster Area - Fox Hunt
Bad Omens - Glass Houses
The Disaster Area - Deathwish

@@ennesb.4053 yeah well fuck me I guess they also already deleted it of Spotify 😂
It's also "ITS LIKE IM SLEEEEEP WAAAALKAAAAAAAANNNG"
They're all ripping off Runaway by Linkin Park
@XAVR_ naaah I don't hear it. Not as apparent at least
@@XACTIC_Valour not the same notes, but it's the OG pitched vocal fry in that minor scale in my opinion, definitely a huge influence on modern metalcore considering all the artists aged 25-30 would have grown up listening to LP
A Crooked Melody - how ironic 🤣
There was a pretty absurd case of copy pasta earlier this year too, Frailty by Violent Vira with Peel by Moodring. Guitar's slightly less clear but otherwise Vira's instrumental is just straight up Peel. You could even play the two at the same time and the only thing that doesn't mix is the lyrics, it's that blatant. Also apparently Vira's been deleting comments calling this out to try to sweep it under the rug which is :/
As far as I know, TDA was collaborating with Noah Sebastian from 2019 to the spring of 2023 (or around that time), and there were no such songs with copycat situations while they worked together. For most stuff, Sebastian was mentioned as a writer and not a producer. Most likely, the latest single Talking To Myself was created without the participation of Sebastian, because Bad Omens was touring so much the last year, and the guys started to work on the 4th album.
Fun fact: Lucas, the singer, is also going to be fronting Funeral for a Friend. ❤
what wait FFAF is comin back???
@@mentaltelepathy24they've been back for years doing the odd show but now tour somewhat regularly
@mentaltelepathy24 they've been touring the old albums, recently celebrated Casually Dressed's 20th anniversary by playing it in full.. but they've also hinted at new music going forward. Matts left now and they'll continue with Lucas, he's playing some festivals with them this year.
WHAT? o.O
whaaaat. saw they were doing shows around the UK but new music would be great. shattered matt left though!
lmao just wanted to mention that i love that you use deathphonk II as background music
Niks comparisons in the second half reminded me of Vanilla Ice defending Ice Ice Baby from Queen/Bowie's track Under Pressure xD
Holding Absence forever, their song reminds me to my earlier Red albums, too beautiful
This earned you my sub again keep it up
Every time I hear talking to myself by the disaster area in my car I ALWAYS sing crooked melody 😂
Nice to see my Hometown band that went to my High school (Holding Absence) got some cover on the channel. Their new album "The Noble Art of Self-Destruction" is incredible by the way, well worth a listen
Lovein the content❤
I hope to see Termina play New Orleans one day soon
I learned more about music in this video than I every thought I could know.
They took the song down and made a statement on IG. Apparently that specific part of the song was written by a third party.
Think of it what you will but kinda wild how quickly this happened after this video dropped
Detective Nik came out today and I loved it first time I’ve seen him since the The Thy Art drama
Fun Fact:
The Disaster Area is produced by Noah Sebastian.
At least some stuff.
I think you can really hear his approach to songwriting/production in Martyr and some of the Glasshearts tracks
The Holding Absence drum beat switches to that further in...
Video has been out for 2 mins and 6:00 mark is wild
Btw, ACM from the beginning you mentioned is just an abbreviation for the name of the holding absence song
Thanks for told about this great band ❤
NOOO FUCKING WAYYYY - THE ANGEL IN THE MARBLE WAS MY SECOND OPTION FOR FEELS SONG!!!!!!!!
12 - 5 - 8 - 5
Guitarists: lmao 😂😂
Drummers: 😐
New blatant copy just arrived, our sacred grounds copying bad omens miracle, literally identical
Watching your ears work like that is really impressive
CROOKS UK song ABOVE ME has a very similar lead as well.
Nik Beato
The opening riff of "The Polymath" by This or The Apocalypse is identical to the riff from "Tears Don't Fall" by BFMV. Even the double kick run at the end of the bar.
anyone remember when falling in reverse - the departure straight copied the baseline from silversun pick ups - panic switch.
*Sub for fun metal things*
i did the vid that Holding Absence replied to on twitter.. i got a strike by Disaster Area
You know what? I will.
holding absence are so good
Corporate wants you to find the difference between this two.
"They're the same picture"
well well well, thats also a way to get more presence in the scene , those guys are well known in ther Germany core scene xD
and their song is down from Spotify...
This reminds me of a catch your breath song that sounds very similar to 1x1 by BMTH
The Disaster Area boutta get so many streams on Talking To Myself 😂
Nope, they took that song down 😅
Same just discovered a band called satylus and their single (better end) begining almost sounded like another band from korea Remnants of the fallen (faces) but you can notice the difference. You could check them out if you can
I think we don't realize how much labels use songwriters/producers. Someone probably sold a pack of songs to a label and then sold others to another label and accidentally (or not) included some of the same songs in the two packs.
All this aside, that Holding Absence album was pretty solid.
Saw this as I was listening to Saint Cecilia by Holding Absence…
stahp yelling at me! im already subbed!
i’m not that familiar with holding absence but saw that vid! i liked their interpretation of kintsugi in it, i love kintsugi & i thought they used it really well-it sucks that this happened to them! hoping it wasn’t on purpose maybe…? 😅
Nik PLEASE you need to talk about how Violent Vira's Boyfriend/Producer just ripped THE WHOLE INSTRUMENTAL for Frailty off of Moodrings Peel its scary and so so stupid but also somehow hilarious
If i remember correctly there's a Aannisokay song have the same intro in other rap group
Truly a crooked melody
It’s also like the exact same tonality and amount of reverb
this is why I write GARBAGE because no one will copy my GARBAGE
Their album alpha//omega is literally sempiternal
you should be able to invertphase and see how similar
that entire holding absence album sounds so similar to dayseekers drunk
its indeed a crooked melody (badum tsjjjjj)
I love disaster area. That's funny but also 2 completely different genres but that's hilarious and wild. If this was Denis doing it you know people would be hating lol. Both bands are great though
i guess they're holding adsense to holding absence
I guess you could call that
A crook’s melody
Not really related to the video, but worth pointing out. I’m going to be real here (I know people are going to be pissed about this), but Architects definitely didn’t invent that particular style of riffing in doomsday. They definitely popularized doing it and created a riff that is legendary, but in the album Singularity by Northlane (which predates Architects being djenty metalcore) you can actually here similar riffing. It’s just my opinion though.
I've been saying it for a while now too. That djentcore style riffing is pretty much early Northlane. It's funnier if you remember that Northlane named themselves after an Architects song.
OG NorthLane is the only shit I like right now.
I’m surprised he didn’t do the Moodring song that another band copy and pasta
similar to this is the song bleach by mirrorcell compared to berghain by void of vision. they aren't quite as similar but if you know the vov album well enough its more than a bit sus imo
Wait till Nik discovers pop music...
Ngl, and some may disagree and it’s ok lol, but when I first heard the song from Holding Absence (it’s still a fire), I was reminded of “Above Me” by Crooks UK. Might just be me, but round the chorus I hear somewhat a similarity lmao.
Same!
Oh, okay scooby doo! "fUn MeTaL tHiNgs heEere"
call me a sadboi all you want, Holding Absence released a 10/10 full lenght album
It's so close that I can't tell the difference without picking out very, very small irrelevant details, and I play drums and guitar. If this went to a court room with the average joes this would be 100% slam dunk guilty. Its bad ....like Vanilla Ice bad.
Yo that's me (but yeah, even the opening vocal lines of both chorus are very similar both melodically and rhymically)
Please, can you help someone who's studying music theory but is disoriented with the numbers used by Nik (because I know a different enumeration system)? What chord progression is 0-8-5?
Someone ice ice babyed the others song
What about:
Holding Absence - Afterlife and The Plot In You - Left Behind?
They sound quite similar to me.
Definitely have some similarities (mostly in the timbre of the vocals and guitars I think) but they're different enough to not be a cause for concern, imho. Lucas's raspy vocals are quite similar to Landon's in this song though. They also have structural similarities... actually, the more I listen to them side by side the more alike they sound 😅
@@Xan1ver Yeah, They are not copypasta, but somehow do sound very similar. Yet, both songs are great, there is no denying :)
@@sniper2k364 definitely both great songs, possibly drawing from the same inspirations. I'd just never really considered how similar their voices are when Lucas adds more grit 😅
Copycore is a great genre!
Aren't these guys the same who had an album that sounded EXACTLY like a Bad Omens one? But like, full songs that were literally the same
It's not even in a different key, dude. They're not trying at all. 😂
Motionless in White - Cause of Death | The Browning - Carnage
lol well don broco used a rift that was in logic pro cus i used it lol so it happens i guess but that is a little odd
Holding Absence is one of the best bands ive ever heard. So underrated imho
Roguenjosh at the begining 🤌
I was gonna leave a comment about Kingdom of Giants' "Burner" sounding like Architects' "A Match Made in Heaven" but you basically beat me to it lol
I love Kingdom of Giants and the song Burner by the way, not throwing shade they just sound pretty close
Both great songs. Also Wage War may have "borrowed" the opening riff for Low from Architects Doomsday. Annisokay's Human is similar to Architects' Animals. But l Iove all those songs and bands!
Sure the first part aligns, but the second part of the phrase is different, the first one is very slow and similar to the first part, but the second song is more blasty
copy pasta
The one ripoff I always remember is Caliban's song It's Our Burden To Bleed ripping the entire end breakdown from Unearth's song This Lying World, like they're literally identical.
True. But it's a great song. Both are haha, funny about that
Did holding absence say anything?
Thank u, I just discovered TDA 😘
Combine for "huge chorus".
Could it be that both bands found the same sample on Splice and got the same inspiration of how to build around it or are we just marking it plagiarism?
They posted a statement. Apparently both bands have gotten 3rd party influence and got their parts written by someone else 😂 and now they have cut ties with that 3rd party.
@@ennesb.4053 very ooferific
