I have to disagree with your comment that the left arm is externally rotating. The left arm is also inwardly rotating. Although the arm is reaching back, the humerus bone is spinning clockwise in the socket.
Awesome David I am stiff as a brick but that advise with the little towel really improved my enjoyment with this pose.
