Binging with Babish: Ratatouille (Confit Byaldi) from Ratatouille

When you remember how Colette tells Remy and Linguini that Ratatouille is a peasant dish, Ego's flashback is suddenly more heartwarming.
What about “cooking is like mommy in the kitchen”?
But they were pretty lucky becouse Ego actually asked for something simple and the waiter had no odea what he was talking about
@Lga. D I might be remembering wrong but I’m pretty sure Ego asked for the chef’s recommendation
@@simonnachreiner8380 Yes, he did at the end. First he asked for something simple but the waiter understood nothing. He tried like 3 times and then he asked for chefs recommendation
@@lga.d3351 Ego asked for perspective and then changed his order to whatever the chef would dare serve him. He got both.
This is actually an amazing power. Imagine like having this dish beside you during a test, then eating it to remember all the answers you forgot.
If that’s true then people will be 10% smarter, and people will have an amazing meal
I've heard there were promising studies involving chewing a particular flavor of gum while studying, then again during the test
😂😂😂😂
humans can do that, i saw somewhere that if you study while chewing a certain flavour, if you do a test chewing the same flavour you will remeber thing more easily. idk if its true tho...

The reviewer wasn’t evil I’m like 90% sure he was depressed because his mothers cooking set such high hopes for him in the world of food that were ultimately destroyed
Well that puts a different spin on home style cooking.
Alex Martinez this is LIFE LIVE WITH IT
@@KSHAWK I was just commenting on the fact that Ego probably critiqued a lot more restaurants and probably gave them lower ratings than what they might have gotten otherwise because of his supposed depression. Because of it, he most likely destroyed the dreams of many up and coming chefs, which is why I made the comment. It made me suddenly realize how many restaurants he must have reviewed poorly in what I'm assuming is the cutthroat world of fine French cuisine in Paris. Sorry if I offended you.
@Alex Martinez you didn’t I was making a joke
@@KSHAWK Sorry for not getting your joke. Historically, I sometimes don't get jokes while others land perfectly. Guess it didn't connect with my humor. The message I got from Ego loving the Ratatouille was that there’s so many Chefs in the world but nothing beats a mothers cooking
Aww 🥰
yup, no matter what french named fancy dish with caviar and lobster i might eat from restaurant, nothing beats a simple meal made by mom
And a rat’s cooking.
Tbh, I always thought the underrated part was the review he gave afterwards. Like, he speaks about how critics risk so little in their line of work, yet can ruin others and their work in the blink of an eye. At the same time, they ultimately have to face that in the grand scheme of things, them saying something is awful has less meaning and value than the object itself. There's more that I won't talk about, but I love it because of how much impact and wisdom in the world
@@survivorofthecurse717Yeah his review is amazing.

No cooking in the world can ever bring me more joy and love then the food made by my mother.
After being in school, working hard, going through some troubles, it was my moms cooking that helped me get through it all because she went through hard times, yet still makes enough to feed me and the family.
Please. Enjoy what your loved one makes you. Because you dont know if it can be the last.
That looks wonderful. :) I had no idea what this dish was even made of before your video.
The flashback Mr. Ego has is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in a film to this day. I haven't ever seen it before or attempted since. It's incredibly emotional & just think about it for a moment. The food is crafted SO well that it triggers a memory back to his own mother's cooking, a comfort food from his childhood. I think I cried when I first saw it because I was so emotionally moved. It's one of those scenes that I wish I could relive with fresh eyes. I hope the people whom wrote & animated that moment are very proud of themselves.

That's the french government's la vergonha policy's scars
Marleigh, did you see what happened after they served the ratatouille? What did you think of it?
That line was very symbolic, coming to think of it. It's indeed a peasant dish, but it ties into chef Gusteau's line: "Anyone can cook ", and Anton Ego's revision thereof: "A great artist can come from anywhere". No matter what your circumstance in life is, you have potential to unlock the greatness that lies hidden within yourself, just as Remy did

Ok! I made this last year and it was pretty good but a little bland (I think part of that was the blender issue). Something was missing. I made it again today, changing some things, and my fiance (who only says "it's okay, to even professionally made stuff) came out and said "that was actually really good". He thought it would need more seasoning or just taste like vegetables, but it didnt! I'm so happy! So heres tips for people who dont have everything Babish does:
-roasted the peppers in the oven, 450 for 30 min. I dont have an open flame.
-my blender is not high power like his (it's a ninja, didnt "cook" the sauce). I cooked the onion, garlic, peppers, and blanched tomatoes in a skillet prior to blending.
-I also added to the sauce fresh rosemary, fresh thyme, fresh basil, and a bay leaf while cooking, before blending. A touch of olive oil in the blender, salt and pepper. The sauce was amazing! Could add the chicken stock, but it I forgot and it was fantastic without it. And it goes great on chicken.
-Last tip, before going in the oven and after arranging the vegetables, combine olive oil, fresh thyme, salt and pepper (any other desired seasoning), and pour it over the veggies. THEN put the parchment over and stick in the oven.
While i changed the recipe, i really want to thank Babish because this is the kind of really involved, long time frame dish I was scared to make and you showed me I could do it too! And now I've made something that took a long time but was really fun to make and my fiance loved! Thank you!
How did you cook the onion garlic and peppers?
@@jhookz7925 so I just rough chopped all the sauce ingredients (onion, garlic, bell peppers, etc) in a skillet on the stove over medium high heat with a little olive oil (in the normal order, onions first till they brown then the garlic, then the tomatoes and bell pepper) until it broke down a little and became soupy, then I tossed it all in the blender.
