To be fair, when Remy wanted to cook the dish for Anton Ego, Colette pointed out that it was “a peasant dish” so the fact that it’s literally a baked salad isn’t too far fetched. People make do with what they’ve got, and this version of Ratatouille likely appealed to Ego because A.) the dish was a prominent meal in his childhood, and B.) the dish was given the high-end restaurant flair Ego had come to know as a food critic.

People say its just a baked salad and that its a peasant dish, but to me, that looks so delicious, i can almost smell and taste all of the juice from those stewed vegetables just looking at it, looks delicious on its own, but it could also go with a great medium rare steak.
Right?? What's so bad about eating fresh stewed vegetables? I have to think those commenters are my fellow Americans, who consider a meal incomplete unless a half pound of meat is included
One of the biggest lessons taught by cooking shows is that a simple dish is not a poor dish, an easy dish or a low class dish. It's how the ingredients are used and the skill that goes into using them that dictates what the final dish will be. Judging a dish like this because of it's ingredients is like judging a luxury SUV for not being a Corvette.
It's funny, the reason Remmy knows how to make the food critic's mom's recipe for ratatouille (enough to take him back to his childhood) is because the house he was cooking in, at the very beginning, belonged to the food critic's mom. It was a great idea to recreate that iconic dish and the execution was wonderful. I didn't realise that there was zucchini in it, i used to think it was potato. I don't know what the fuss is about and why people were disappointed. But it was quite clear that no meat was used in that recipe and it was a vegetarian dish. As to why the food critic went into flashback after tasting the dish would be because as someone mentioned that it is a pheasant dish and it could be that the critic was from an agricultural family growing up eating the same veggies so it reminded him of childhood but probably he would have been stunned by the fact that such a humble preparation, with minimalistic ingredients, could be elevated to the level of a gourmet dish. Too many other channels gucci it up, and in the process, miss the entire essence of it. This is a provincial dish that makes something special out of simple ingedients. Adding truffle oils or unicorn shavings RUINS it.
Made this today. I am not a cook, but I was impressed with myself. I guess Gusteau was right…anyone can cook (if they follow an amazing recipe that is). Thanks for simplifying everything. My 9 year old also loved it. We watched Ratatouille as we ate. Cheers.

This was something my mother learned to make in her later years, she added some Italian sausage to it because meat. I loved it. It's something cooked with precision, with clarity, and most of all, with love. I'm more considerate of recipes that are vegetarian and/or vegan friendly, even though I am not either. To me, this was the ultimate example of "looks can be deceiving." Every bite felt like a hug from my mother. We lost her this past October, and we are still grieving, but it was her recipes and those dishes that felt like there was love in every bite. I wish I never took them for granted, but thanks to my aptitude and love for cooking, those recipes, those memories, those warm hugs in every bite, will live on, and every recipe feels like she's right there with me.
I am a remodeler of kitchens and bathrooms with a penchant for food. I've been asked many times, "Why aren't you a chef?" Because if I had to do it for a living I'd probably hate it. The one thing that I apply to remodeling is the same theory I employ When I cook. "Simple elegance." Not unlike Ratatouille, I take old furniture and repurpose it to suit the project. The results can be exquisite.
I am not a watcher but a doer. I have to admit that looks good and decided to do it myself and have improved the recipe significantly. Some tips: - Reduce the bitterness from the eggplants - Reduce the acidity of the sauce - Use ripped tomatoes from the garden not the one from the commerce, since they are too acidic After some improvement, this is very delicious. Thank you for the inspiration.
It's very pleasant watching your videos because they're not usually like most cooking videos I've seen where it's like a fast paced action movie with quick cuts one after the other. This one cherishes the time or moment of cookong.

Its a shame it took me so long to watch such an acclaimed movie but I only saw ratatoullie for the first time this year and I am a pixar fan going on 30 plus years. Thankfully I caught on to yall’s channel sooner cuz man oh man I love the aesthetics and edit quality with the music you have with this recipe showcase. Thank you and keep it up!
can’t believe pixar is more than 30 years
If you enjoyed Ratatoullie I suggest you Jon Fravreau's "Chef" 👌
HOW IN THE SEVEN HECKS DID YOU NOT WATCH RATATOULLIE UNTIL THIS YEAR?!
@@yuridc1780 They really doesn't seem that old of a studio, are they?
I use to help my mom cook at her Italian deli. You just brought back that desire to cook. I think I’ll make some vodka sauce tomorrow night.
howd that sauce go man!?
@@minoxiothethird just saw this but it was awesome! It’s been years since I made it from scratch but came out perfectly. The work one puts in for homemade foods make it taste better for some reason. Lol
If you don't have shallots, you can also use leeks. Nice mild flavor and I think it works well with a lot of shallot dishes
This is by far the most peaceful cooking channel I’ve ever seen. Thank you!
Beautifully made. This video put me in such a relaxed, calm mood. The wine while cooking is something I can't go without when I cook. A required part of any real chef. Thank you for such a lovely presentation.
Wow... your channel deserves a lot more attention.. this was an amazing video it makes me want to watch the movie again
Haha, thank you so much for the kind words! It really made our day😭! Sometimes we think that also, but we started this channel after we left the restaurant industry to share what we love about food. If we get more attention then it will happen, as of now we just keep cooking and creating! Thank you for watching our video, and this is one of the best movies haha.
so glad i found your video, it really put me at ease and motivated me to find the beauty in cooking. Love the soothing style it's so different from so much of the frenetic content out there, please don't lose that!
This really means alot to us! Thank you so much!
I LOVE Paris and French cuisine. This dish is so simple yet so beautiful and healthy and TASTY. Ratatouille is one of my favorite movies, and makes me want to hop a flight every time I watch it.
Love it. We add a bit of a pepper coulis to the side of the pan. It caramelizes and adds another layer of flavovor
I have watched almost every UA-cam cooking video related to Ratatouille and by far this is the best recipe, you people have done a great job please keep it up, I also looked at your other videos and I can say your channel is really underrated but atleast you have gained one more faithful viewer and supported 👍.
Cheers.
Ladies and Gentleman we all know this channel is going to be in the millions of subscribers just by looking at the quality
Their views have plummeted after this video! Very sad sight to see.
Absolutely gorgeous! Most ratatouille that I've seen have been more "stew" style. This way is way more elegant but I do understand that it's way more work, too.
watching this video makes me realize what I'm missing: peace and quiet times...Amazing production, amazing result, surely an amazing taste too.
The ASMR quality of this video is phenomenal!!
that movie was such a favorite of mine, glad to see the dish actually exists
I absolutely love this channel! The music, the small talk throughout, the knowledge and skill, and just the overall aesthetic and vibe of this channel allows me to settle down and quietly enjoy my evening. Thank you for your amazing content and all the time put into making everything seem so special and unique. Chef Remi and Gusto would be proud!
So artistic and relaxing! Wish i had the patience to make this.
Beautifully made, beautifully shot, and beautifully edited.
I just discovered this channel and I just wanna say this is the most relaxing thing I’ve ever seen. I’m gonna subscribe just for this type of content.
Snif snif thank you!! That's so nice of you!
I don't eat vegetables or drink wine and I hate to cook but I LOVED this video. Skill is always enjoyable to witness.
Bro hates nourishing himself
the way the sauce was prepared was amazing and the cheesy joke reminded me of the movie. You guys rocked that dish!😱
This video is amazing! I don’t how I haven’t found you guys before. Absolutely beautiful cinematography and an amazing narrative you’ve built out of just cooking something. My new favorite content!!
This was an incredibly soothing viewing experience. You've done as good - if not better - of a job as the movie did at elevating what is but a peasant's dish. And the end result is truly mouth-watering!
Looove that movie, my favorite scene is when the food critic tastes this plate and his mind flew to his childhood. The plate evoked a happy memory to him.
The amount of thought and perfection that went into this video is superb👏🏽 The pen scene was fantastico🤌 Remy would be proud! I absolutely love this video.
How simple yet complicated, this easily can be a star dish for the kind of chef who loves to have fun and be happy.
Now I'm hungry. 🤤
Bro im so high for a second I deadass thought they were about to start taking notes on the ratatouille at the end xD
13:00 me wiping my sweat after doing nothing
Ratatouille is my favorite animation movie as well. This ratatouille looks gorgeous, certainly I'll do it too. Great video, keep doing the great work.
I remember my home economics teacher making ratatouille for the class when we watched the movie for the first time. It's been my favorite dish since 🥰
I love ratatouille, perfect to eat as a lunch or something. I like how simplistic and affordable this dish is, definitely good for poorer people like myself.
Simplistic? It takes like an hour just to take skin of tomatoes and bell peppers. And why?
@@igoranisimov6549 yes but you can make a ton of it and have it over the course of multiple days. You are aware that those two servings weren't even an 18th of what you could make. Also the vid exaggerated the steps a lot. You could EASILY crockpot this.
@@Jmcelwain17 I don't eat the same food for two weeks. I only eat freshly made food. I make something really simple, especially vegetables. Heat processing destroys most of nutrients, did you know?
_that's why it's a "peasant dish"; easy to make, simple ingredients, and mass-produced for efficiency_
@@igoranisimov6549 complaining over one recipe that doesn't suit your specific yet arbitrary diet requirements is weird.
I can’t wait to come back to this recipe in a few years when I make this for my love 💜
How beautiful! And most importantly, no empty chatter. Bravo, master!
I really love how this video was made, it feels animated 😍
I've never felt so relaxed in my life after watching this video, amazing 🙂
You say we can laugh at the cheesy scene recreation but I teared up remembering the rest of that scene and why Ego dropped his pen. There is just something about childhood memories and how they are relived when you smell, taste or have some other sensory trigger.
I love making ratatouille and this seems like the best and conveniently the most traditional. Have to try it
This was so wholesome! Thanks for the vid and the recipe! Also i loved your recreation of the scene where Anton drops his pen 😂
Aw thank you!
I always love coming back to this video it's so cinematic and I love how you capture every little sound that every food makes it's almost like cooking ASMR it's so amazing thank you
💝👨🍳
Definitely perfected that sauce incredible detail and attention to every flavor profile!! Looks better then the movie guys😍
Thank you so much Taylor!
i love cooking but id love someone forever if they cooked something like this for me :3
This was something my mother learned to make in her later years, she added some Italian sausage to it because meat.
Your videos are amazing!!! You guys deserve more recognition ❤
The look of the final result looks like a Tian (tian de légumes), another summer recipe from the south of France. Loved the video :)
Some tips:
- Reduce the bitterness from the eggplants
- Reduce the acidity of the sauce
- Use ripped tomatoes from the garden not the one from the commerce, since they are too acidic
After some improvement, this is very delicious. Thank you for the inspiration.
It's very pleasant watching your videos because they're not usually like most cooking videos I've seen where it's like a fast paced action movie with quick cuts one after the other. This one cherishes the time or moment of cookong.
This has to be one of the most relaxing cooking videos I've ever seen.
I have no words to describe how good this video is. Every shot is on point, the recipe is such an incredible composition yet so simple. That's a sub for me ! Keep up with this great work i love it !
I love to cook but my apartment situation makes it so tough. I have to prep everything with a single pairing knife!
I like how fancy they made a peasant's dish
Thank you for working hard for the viewers all year long. Thank you for giving me happiness Thank you for the good content that we have been looking for you throughout the year and this new year, I wish the admin and the team to be very happy and have good things and good sponsors coming throughout the year.
Just found this channel, and dang, you guys are seriously underrated. Great content.
Last time I saw this channel, they were at around 200 subs. I just got this recommended to me again to see that they now have almost 150k subs. Wow..
This video is great for learning a new recipe and the ASMR level is amazing!
I definitely want the recipe! I’ve been wanting to make this at home forever!
I'd love if y'all posted a recipe to your blog! Along with any dishes you think would pair well with it. I've read people make lamb or pork chops to go with ratatouille.
You got it!
@@TwoPlaidAprons Where can I see the recipe?? I really want to try it out and cook for my brother’s wedding :)
a very good video to watch in terms of a video that uses a low light effect plus calm music, perfect for watching while lying down
Thanks for watching, that'll be $350!
