Nice to hear someone confirming that a container could be a better choice for a certain species than on the ground. This is also true with sweet potatoes. They love to fuse with each other in a narrow space. The wider the area, they seem less happier. Nature dictates and lets us know their preferences. Life happiness is synchronized with mother nature.

Robbie thank you for the idea of the soil sifter, I'm making one for my soil so I can have the soft loomy soil for my seeds💞🥰💞

Robbie, I stuck a coupe pieces of ginger/turmeric in one of your 20 gallon tote. Used decaying wood and table scrapes to fill the bottom half, made soil for the top half. Here in the northeast, the season is really not long enough. At the end of season I brought them inside and put the tote in a grow tent for the winter. Had a few issues with the brightness of my grow lights and dialed it way back, so you are correct about them liking shade from the sun. I am amazed at the growth so far and will use as needed and have a perpetual harvest. Would love to send you guys a picture.

Thanks for your input on how well it went with composting in the totes. I had wondered if it would work where I live in Oregon. I may try composting in place in smaller pots with well shredded material and see how that works. Thanks Robbie for all your wonderful informative videos! I now know exactly where I'm going to plant my ginger and turmeric for morning sun exposure.

@@christytattersall5859 it does seem to be working. I have not added soil for a year now and it is down a couple inches, so something is breaking down. Once our nighttime temps show 60° I will move them outside and harvest maybe 50% of the roots and top off with some soil. Never thought I could pull it off here in zone 5B but with a 100 watt grow light and some extra time inside it works great.

Well, you never know what’s in that soil that’s around the ginger, microbes, tiny baby earth worms…pour the water back on other plants in the soil and let them continue to thrive ❤️ thank you

I work for a major grocery store. Our floral department is super busy during some holidays, ie mother's day, Valentine's Day. Kroger, Fry's, Dillons....go to floral department and you can get these same pots for free. At least ask! Cuz they just get thrown away. The flowers are just shipped in them.

Robbie, you will never guess what happened where I live in Michigan! Remember the other day when you had thunder and snow? Well, for the first time in my life there was thunder with this major snowstorm we are having right now. Unbelievable and so not normal. Or natural! Unfortunately, my gazebo is sadly damaged from this heavy snow.

Hi Robbie, great video on ginger 😍❤️ I'm in zone 8b here in SE. Alabama. Our winter was very warm so I hope my ginger comes back this summer. ☺️ I planted mine in raised soil mound last year that gets morning sun and afternoon shade. It loved it. I couldn't believe it, the plant grew up to 6 feet tall!!!! It's a lovely plant just to enjoy for it's beauty as well as for the ginger. 👍💗💓💖

Robbie, didn't you say in previous videos that ginger spreads out horizontally while turmeric will grow wherever it can find space and pack the whole pot? Maybe people bury ginger deeper thinking they'll grow more of it with the plant spreading horizontally and above.
Thank you for the video. I'm gonna have to check our pots of ginger. We forgot them all winter and the temperatures have been freezing here for several weeks. I hope we didn't lost it all.
As a side note, I remember from a past video that you said you had a trick to get your purple collards to get leaves more purple-ish. But I don't remember if you gave away that secret. I'm planning to try growing Red Russian kale this year. Would you be so kind as to share that tip, either here in the comment section or in a future video? Or if you've already done it, can someone point me to the video please?

Hi Robbie, love your videos! I’ve learned so much. Can you do an updated video on how to refresh totes after a long period of being left overwinter? I had mine mulched with leaves and covered with cardboard just in case, not exactly sure if it was a good thing to do? this’ll be my second season growing in them so some tips would be great as my last frost date is coming soon in April. NY zone 7a. God bless you and your family 😊

Thanks for your vids, I have a question. Where do you buy your planting pots that don't have holes in them? The ones you had to melt holes in, what are they called and where do you buy them? I'm looking for them but every store only sells the ones with holes already. I need homeless pots. I want to try Dr Kratky's Pot-in-pot-in-pot method of growing ginger, but I need a large pot with No holes .

Thanks for making this video. Can you make a video like this for tumeric also?
Both seem to be an issue for me to keep alive. The plants i bought endef up dying.
Of course my compost grew a beaytiful one of the two, i get then mixed up. Lived til the cold killed. But intentionally trying to grow either hasnt been a strong point for me
