You my friend are a champion. I’m a South East Asian living in a warm temperate (Mediterranean climate) area of Australia. You have both embarrassed and educated me tremendously. Embarrassed as I had no idea about some of things you said about turmeric that I should know, and that you are successful in growing it while I suck at growing turmeric and ginger. Agree. I’ve watched a few and some of the information in here was the best that I’ve heard. I really appreciated the part where he mentioned letting it harden over open skin before planting. I have some and I was about to plant today but wanted to make sure I didn’t screw it up and I’m so glad I waited. Two more days of waiting will be worth it if my plants have a higher chance of success!
Thanks for the fertilizing and watering and lighting tips I got six turmeric plants that are on their second year now I keep picking away the stuff I want to harvest and replanting them
Fresh turmeric and ginger can be added with other fruit in cold pressing which is great. Also nice in smoothies. The leaves can be added in Asian curries or stir fries for flavour.
I live on Lake Superior in Ashland, WI and don't have a long growing season so will definitely try growing Turmeric and Ginger in pots so I can bring them inside the house in Winter. The 'arctic tundra' does not allow for much to grow outside here since it really is a very short growing season. Thank you so much for your clear instruction.
They don't survive the winter even kept warm, they live roughly 10 months at most in ideal condition then die back and hibernate fro two months. They have to have that rest period to thrive. We start seeing our first frosts as early as October here and my plants keep chugging along outside, well below 50 degrees at night. Usually terminate them around Thanksgiving.

Late fall in 9b and I just put a few pieces of turmeric in a wall pocket planter. Thank you for great info that will help me grow them. Happy holidays to you and yours in your finished farm.
Gosh, my turmeric plants look sooooo different from yours. The foliage on mine is a very light green, almost chartreuse, and it stays compact down to the soil level. The blossom looks sort of like a hyacinth bloom, white, and it is held very close at the interior of the plant. I've been growing it for about 10 years. The fist sprout didn't occur until a whole year after I'd planted it from the supermarket. Here in my very mild coastal climate, the shoots don't appear until mid June when the weather really starts to warm up. It's hardy overwintering, dormant, but it never freezes here. I'll send you a photo once they're well up and growing. If it isn't a different species from yours, it is at least a different cultivar.

I’m just getting into planting. I don’t understand completely how to transfer. In the beginning your saying each peace may produce 4 roots. Then you say you transfer to one gallon for one plant then maybe 3 in a larger pot. How do you split the original root with four roots into one? Or three? I don’t understand .
Each rhizomes can make 3-4 shoots (stems that grow the leaves) but technically each rhizome piece like I show in the video makes one plant. I start them all in small pots then once they have sprouted well I put 2-3 small plants in a 3 gallon container
Thank you for covering all the important points on this. How do you store the rhizomes for replanting if that can be done and what's the best time to start rhem indoors. I'm in Georgia and it's January 2013. Thanks again.
I just store them in some kind of cardboard box. They usually begin to sprout while stored. If you have a greenhouse can plant a time, if not just plant close to when the temps stay above 60°f. Really though the warmer the better for planting

@@TheMoreYouGrow Thanks very much for your reply! :)
I meant 2023.🤣🤣
Thank you. This video is very informative 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great video..just subscribed. Can you give me a tad more info on your fish emulsion/fertilizer please!?!?! Thanks for info
Sure can! Next crop I get going I’ll do a video on just it
Hi. I had planted some turmeric plants a couple of years ago. I harvested a pot of it and I am not sure if they are really too young. Then there these bulbs at the bottom of the pot. I wanted to know if those are good to eat too or is it good for planting. I would like to see your harvest video. I would like to see how you harvest them. And what’s at the bottom of the pot.
Harvest video is on my channel, just check out the video list. I have not used the storage tubers, but there may be use that I’m not aware of
I’ve tried to grow ginger now trying turmeric. Haven’t gotten one ginger to grow. But I put in a larger pot. Is this one of my problems?
I would like to see how turmeric is harvested !😊

Thank you, I’m new at watching you and will give growing Tumeric a try! Thank you 😊
From what week (after planting turmeric) to what week you use the fish emulsion?
@@attilaszilagyi7533 I do not fertilize until I have 1-2 leaves above ground, then every other week for 3 months. After 3 months switch to a higher phosphorus fertilizer
Trying this. Bought organic set. Feels like ginger..ginger seems like Iris.I know Iris'
Try letting at least one get to flowering size, the flowers are AMAZING.
I’ll try it!
I prefer growing mine in 10 gallon (38 liter) containers. They're doing fine and got lots of them when harvest time appear
Could youfind turmeric in stores such as walmart lowes hardware stores
I actually got my first rhizomes from HEB haha sometimes Walmart has it. Best place to look is upscale grocery store like central markets and such.
