This man’s voice! I was excited to see this was today’s reaction and analysis. David Phelps always amazes with the gift he’s been given. If you said nothing, your expressions would speak for themselves, but your analysis of this was insightful as always. ❤️
He sang this last year at the Labor Day Barn Bash, 2 weeks after having COVID and sounded just like this, at the age of 53, the greatest tenor ever. React to "Water" a duet with his daughter, Maggie Beth she was 17 at the time, beautiful soprano voice she got from her Daddy.
Jennifer! Started out on time (10th like) but had to pause some. So let's see what we've got today. Ohh, a very big song that needs a powerful voice to pull off. And it sounds like David's up to the task! I can reach some of the notes but don't have much power up there. LOL! 12:20 "That was Christmas in a chord progression." 😂 And some of your expressions ... as Angie said they tell the story! At 21:54 I thought ... we're going to need to get Jen a seat belt for her chair! 🤣 Safety first in reaction and analysis. 😁 As always a wonderful reaction and analysis Jennifer. 😊
True but I’m so glad he decided to glorify God with his talent rather than take the riches & acclaim of this world, which will never satisfy & will pass away. His music ministry helps many, many people. ❤
I see your point but what you do not know, he is in popular music. His accolades speaks for themselves. He is one of the top tenors in the world is just one note of his accomplishments. He does not need "popular" music to make him who he was created to be.
Yes! I hoped you would do this one. His voice is amazing. He has a song called No More Night and its amazing as well. Thanks Jen, love your reaction vids.
My goodness. I am a ….good singer. Lots of training. No training would ever get me to a level like that. Very…. Very…..VERY few could. Goodness. A gift from god. Simple. Wow
He's phenomenal! So handsome, and this song is so innocently steamy - just to have a man sing this to a woman...if she didn't go running back she's a fool!!!
One of the greatest male singers I have heard. I’ve got to see him live solo and with the Gaither Vocal Band and both were awesome. My choir director went to church with him and he said he was their lead in the Easter musical starting in 6th grade. He has so much control over his instrument it’s unreal. He used to be straight power and he has learned how to refine it to last longer the older he has gotten.
David, David, David!!!! So happy to hear your reaction to this one Jen. In my opinion David is a legend. There isn't anything he can't sing. I have followed him for years. When I first saw that he had covered this song I was so excited, and as always, he did a jaw dropping job. I think you would enjoy reacting to his performance of "Bring Him Home." Thanks for bringing the joy as usual of diving into the core of a song.
@@JenniferGlatzhoferIf you haven’t listened to David’s “Bring Him Home”, be sure to listen to the one from “Classic David Phelps”. By far the most beautiful in my opinion.
Justin, of New York Vocal Coaching on youtube, put out a series of videos from an interview with David, it was filled with insights on how David's voice works
So nice to have a vocal coach react to David. I fell back in love with him when I saw this lol. Nessun Dorma is another performance you should do. Popera! Thanks again. Btw David was 52 when he records this.
Great reaction Jenn ! I saw him with the Gaithers vocal group way back maybe 20 years ago in Texas ! I didn't realize he's a solo artist now and quite successful ! A wonderful tenor voice different from the Christian gospel band he was with ! I thought when I heard this he was a theatrical singer so crisp, clean and clear notes ! Thank you for this! It's a great rendition of a classic song and so well performed ! 👍🇨🇦❤️
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! I knew you would find a 'gold mine' of vocal dynamics!!! His arrangement is so amazing!! I love watching you react and analyze perfection!!
I love your technical reactions… I learn something everytime! David Phelps is my all time favorite male singer… at 53 he still has it and his control along with his arrangements are spectacular! Umm ummm ummm
Your breakdowns of David are the BEST. Love it! He really is one of the greatest male vocalists of all time. Speaking of his amazing dynamics, there are times he's doing it on the fly... I saw a video of him in a concert with the Gaithers where they did a reprise if a BIG ending of a song three times that focused him (as most of the big ending ones do) and you could tell that the reprises weren't planned (usually you can tell when they are) and he did them each very differently... the last version he went opera and you could tell he just decided in the moment to go there. Anyway, a few that you should do next of David for sure... No More Night is one of the staple David Phelps songs, The Dream is one of my favorites that shows so many dynamic changes that's just so insane and beautiful (with power harmony at the end), and We Shall Behold Him is also another where he has incredible dynamics... he literally says the title words like twenty times but they're different every time. Just masterful every performance. Can't wait to see which one you do next!
The song you're referring to that he did 3 reprises on was GLORIOUS FREEDOM...and yes definitely wasn't planned but when you got a live audience having different variations makes the congregation feel the power of Jesus in different ways! 🙌🤗
I think you would enjoy reacting to David’s “Water.” He wrote the music. It has a theatrical presentation, but incorporates several styles in the song. Between David and his daughter Maggie Beth, the choir, the back up singers and of course the band, there is a lot going on! All of it just wonderful and unique.
David Phelps is just an awesome singer.. He really did justice to that song. Please review Sandi Patty "We Shal Behold Him". . I know its a Christian tune but the voice is incredible.
Note his original compositions in the Game Changer album other solo releases- stirring our souls… This video is when he’s much older than O Holy Night- he is in his 50’s and what a clear expressive voice. Your break down is detailed and unique from other coach reactions- Please do more as others have suggested!
Got this notification on my way to work and then had to sit on my phone until I was home - I love this song and I loved your reaction/analysis. Thank you.
Hey Jenn I love your reactions and analytics...I am a worship lead vocalist at my church and I was trained vocally as a teenager and throughout the years and I love hearing different techniques of how to sing a note with different vowels and shapes and breathes and your breakdown of this amazing song by David was awesome! Loved it and Mr Phelps has been my idol singer since I first heard him in the mid 90s in which I'm 43 now so yea a long time of learning how to sing better! So thank you for more depth into my gift! 🙌🤗
Love David! He has been blessed with an amazing voice! I’ve seen him in concerts many times over the last 25 or more years. He’s incredible! Thank you for this reaction.
I love when professionals react to him because you can point out all the little details that add to his unbelievable talent. I would have loved seeing him sing this live with Whitney. I’m sure they could add a second vocal for the chorus and alternate singing the lead. Sorry-I don’t know the technical details of what I’m trying to say 🤷🏻♀️ I just know their voices together would be as amazing as when Whitney & Mariah did “When You Believe”.
I would love for you to react to the Gaither Vocal Band "Let Freedom Ring". It has some great solo moments from David and the other members but also shows how he can blend in with the other members of the group and the harmonies are ❤.
This indeed is the most comprehensive, detailed critique I have heard in quite sometime. Big DF fan and love to hear knowledgeable experts in the field share their thoughts! New subscriber here, and would love to see more.
I'm waiting for you to pick a fault in this song... Could I ask for a less pauses..? Could you pause at the middle of the video and give your take..? Or is that too much for you to handle? All the other coaches do it, be it Phil, Tara.... Or is it limited attention span...?
My mother turned me on to David a few years ago and we're fortunate enough to live relatively close to where he lives, so we've since become groupies. 😊
I realize this reaction was 4 months ago, and I watched it when you first posted it. However, I have listened to it several times. Your explanations of how David uses his voice are so interesting to me. They call me back to my younger days when I just sang for myself. I now more fully understand the things I was doing with my voice. It brings me joy to know that even without any training, I was able to belt, use my vibrato, and convey emotion in my phrasing. I'm even learning to discern singers' use of head and chest voice. Thank you so much for enriching my love of music. I only recently realized in a deeper way what a gift from the Lord my voice was. You are a great teacher.
Too many interrupted moments in a lovely song. Give us some time to hear. I'm leaving because I want to experience the song. You just don't let that happen.
"Listen to the build-up, Jen!" 😂😂 Nah, it's not you or you don't stop to talk about what you heard. And that's why we love you. Among many other reasons, of course.
