David rarely uses his head voice. He's still in his chest voice when you were thinking he was switching so effortlessly back and forth. He belts and sustains in his chest voice. He's phenomenal. I've seen him hit an F5 like its nothing. The high note he sustained here was D5. He regularly hits C5 and he's mid 50's now. His voice gets better with age. He's classically trained and writes alot of his own songs and lyrics. He's known for rewriting old songs where you can still recognize them but puts his own little nuances to it. His fans say he "Phelpsed" it. We're a very devoted PHAN base. You'll find us showing up when you do a reaction to him. Thank you for appreciating our David Phelps.
Welcome to the amazing "rabbit hole" of David Phelps ! Keep going down this hole and he will blow your mind. He's the best tenor I've heard in my 64 years of life. So that says something!! Great reaction!!
David is the only one that can take a song that is so immortalized by Whitney Houston and actually completely out do her version. He is not covering her song, he has re-invented it !
Yes, David Phelps is a professional singer and graduated at the top of his class from Baylor University with a major in opera. they wanted him to sing opera but he wanted to do gospel. he has been singing professional now for over 30 years. Most of his songs he incorporates his signature resonate high tones. Other songs to check out by David Phelps which are just phenomenal: - The Lord's Prayer - Unchained Melody - O' Holy Night - I want to know what love is (Foreigner cover)
Since it is Christmas, please react to his version of O Holy Night. There are multi videos, but the most famous and powerful called “Bill & Golria Gaither Ft. David Phelps” Where he is wearing a green sweater. That version is a power house, please react to it.
One of my favorite David Phelps covers is the song UNCHAINED MELODY. It was an audio only but every time I listen to it I am so much delighted and mersmerized by the beauty of the song and David Phelps' voice. Please make a reaction of it too.... Thanks.
@@MBReacts his birthday is 10/21/1969, 1 day and 2 years after my birthday. He takes excellent care of his voice, and is a great friend to me and my family, especially my son.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Actually he has done quite a bit of stage acting and singing in his life and has tremendous vocal power without a mic, his college vocal professor begged him and argued with him to go opera/classical route but he refused. Don't confuse what does with microphone as lack of ability without one, I've seen video of him breaking sound systems and I've heard him sing inconcert without a mic and we were deeper then 4th row and heard him easily above the other 4 singers with him not inly heard but understood everything he said.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Why do you always show up to criticize David which you've done before in other reaction videos? If you don't like him or his music don't listen or bother to watch the videos. Go find a singer that you actually can like as there are plenty in UA-cam land.
You can only wish you had a voice like David Phelps. He is one of the greatest gospel singers of all time. He sang in a quartet for years. I can’t believe you have never even heard of him before. There are a lot of singers out there you evidently haven’t heard. Don’t even try to mimic his talent. You can’t.
Bro! I just did a reaction to his oh holy night. My goodness what a rendition. Best interpretation ever from what I have heard from diff singer before. Should upload it soon Thanks for stopping by the way
Please don't keep talking while we are trying to appreciate the song ivy artist David Phelps. We will stay with you afterwards to discuss your thoughts.
He’s great at vocal dynamics because he’s a Gospel singer. Christian music is full of dynamics. But he’s also classically trained. Check out his Nessum Dorma, O Holy Night (Live with Bill & Gloria Gaither) and No More Night.
No More Night, O Holy Night, All is well with my soul, Then his daughter in His Eye is on the Sparrow, you will go deep into David Phelps and his whole family. Operatically trained, Christian by devotion.
Do you notice? As I have noticed --- when you, too, sing? The Great singers are Great actors. And when we men and women melt our audience's hearts and are our fully melded with our audience....we are ACTING Our lines Rather than merely mouthing notes. What comes from my mouth are merely notes of a song, but what pours forth from my heart and my ,,"firesome" belly region --- THAT'S how I connect best and most fervently with my audience. Passion. ACTING. Portrayal. Ardor!. The P. A. P. A. Formula/ Theory/Dynamic.... To quote one of the songs from the movie YENTL:"PAPA, Can You Hear Me...?" Sing! And, hence onward, ACT! Always Act. Know the subtext of the lyrics and both you and your audience will be:"T*O*U*C*H*E*D"!!! respectfully submitted Gregg Oreo Long Beach CA etats unis
I commented on a video that was basically saying no one should even try to sing Whitney songs because no one can hold a candle to her. I commented that the closest I’ve heard is David Phelps with this song & posted the video. I was verbally ATTACKED by a black woman scolding me for saying anyone could hold a candle to Whitney and a WHITE MAN at that. I doubt she listened to his cover.
Could you also please react to Judika singing his live cover version of I will always love you. This performance is simply breathtaking. At times seems as if he forgets to breath. He sings this song in the original key and does this effortlessly. Please check him out.
To the maker of this video (MB Reacts) :Could you please do a comparison video between David Phelps singing his cover of I have nothing vs Gabriel Henriquez also singing his cover of I have nothing ? However, instead of reacting to them separately, this time could you please combine the two performances together in one video and compare and contrast the different techniques used and styles of singing between these two singers explaining the similarities and differences in their singing styles and note choices. I think this should be really fun. Please try it out?
Comparing artists renditions of songs always leads to arguments on who is better. I am so tired of that. Of course, someone will throw in Dimash too. Each one is a gifted singer. I like to leave it at that. Let each of us choose the one we like the most to listen and not compare apples and oranges.
I know you have to stop occasionally, but you are doing it far too much. Phelps is the best tenor on the planet. I couldn't make it halfway through. I hope you make the necessary adjustments. It's obvious you are passionate about music. God bless.
I am saying this in love, if you want more subscribers DON'T TALK THROUGH THE SONG!! YOU ARE RUINING IT FOR EVERYONE! TALK AFTER THE SONG OTHERWISE IT'S YOUR EGO TRIP!!

Best version ever!

True.
He doesn't just cover the song, he OWNS it!
This is from a live stream in April. I saw him live in July. He’s unbelievably talented. His voice is better than ever at 52.
David Phelps sing. Just As I Am. With his voice control incredible.
I have seen him in concert three times in 25 years. The man is anointed by God, no doubt! React to more!
Omg i love watching somebody the first time they hear David!!!

He is a trained opera singer, but chose to stay with his gospel roots instead of going the classical route. IMHO he is the best tenor of all time!

He sang in the iconic gospel group Gaither Vocal Band for 20 years while also maintaining his own solo career.

There are compilations of his highest notes which are a total phenom, voice instructors lose themselves, cannot fathom his range
