David admired Whitney and Whitney admired David. The had that mutual admiration for each other. She also knocked it out of the park when she sang gospel. Can you imagine them doing a duet together? Maybe God's saving that for everyone when we're all in heaven together.
David is the best tenor in the world. You should listen to more of his songs. He mainly sings gospel and Christian music but can sing anything. He sings O Holy Night like no other one else! I listen to him everyday. Makes me feel that I’m in Heaven!
Pretty amazing that this performance is 20 yrs after his Oh Holy Night performance. I would say David doesn’t take voice for granted and is a forever student of the craft. Definitely a vocal athlete who puts in the hard work.
In an interview, he said he has to keep his voice "in shape" by following 3 rules. Every day, he must stay hydrated, get plenty of sleep, and sing. He said if he does not follow these rules, his voice suffers.
David Phelps is extremely well known in the Gospel/Christian community. He has numerous recordings out and was classically trained. His vocals are basically flawless in any style.
Since David is 52 I really hope he gets the recognition that voice deserves. The songs he usually have such awesome and powerful messages and are met with an equally awesome and powerful voice. I hope he’s recognized by the top singers today as he is by us. One of the best tenors/singers of all time. He should guest perform on big shows. Haha.
Wow I loved that just as much as I love the Whitney version. Whitney's songs are incredibly hard to do as I think she is one of the greatest female singers of all time, but he did that just magically, just beautiful 😍
Loved your reaction! David arranges his music as well which makes it even more brilliant! and you are so right, that voice is God given and David has been an awesome steward of his gift and cared for it so well, preserving its beauty all these years
He’s definitely not a Broadway Singer, although no doubt he could be. He’s dedicated his voice singing Southern Gospel. Look him up on UA-cam and the Gaither Vocal Band. He’s the BEST vocalist on planet earth.
Isn't it funny that we all said 2 years ago David wasn't a Broadway singer and now, here in 2024 he just did a Broadway show and received rave reviews. We knew he was the best all along. GO DAVID!!!!
Hi Nick hope you're doing better. I can't explain how happy I am to see this 'reaction' David Phelps is one of my fav singers...He mostly sings Gospel songs...Although he has recently released some contemporary songs like this one. His Gospel ones will take you to church my friend. recommend 'No More Nights. We shall behold him. End of the Beginning.....Star-Spangled Banner (with Led Zeppelins Kasmire twist) so many more lol....
Yes, he definitely has a voice from God!! He is classically trained and can sing any genre he chooses! He is incredible!! Another favorite of mine he does is What A Wonderful World! H writes and arranges with the same gift and talent he sings! He wrote End of the Beginning. Another huge favorite of mine! It let's you see his diversity.
So glad I saw your comment before I started mine... my thoughts and sentiments exactly! I also love his rendition of the "Beauty and the Beast" theme song... I believe it's with Sandy Patty.
This dude is over 50 in this video I believe. He could easily pass for 30. That is nuts. What a voice too. When the gifts were being doled out, he got his share and a couple extra.
Nick . . . so glad you are getting better. Missed You! So thrilled you love our David. He has a catalogue you cannot believe. It is deep and it is wide and yes, he cannot be pigeonholed into one genre. He can sing it all . . . including one of your favorites . . . Unchained Melody . . . Theatre . . . try his Nessun Dorma, done with a pop flair, not intended as solely an operatic rendition. He's known as the King of Resonance. Blessings
Please Nicholas I hope you can request more of David Phelps. He is outstanding....Sings from his heart. Thanks for requesting this. Have you seen his Star-Spangled Banner version which he puts a little Led Zeppelin into? lol It's from his Legacy of Love concerts. I think Nick will love it...Here is a link ua-cam.com/video/rJKM_ZxUTgI/v-deo.html
I told my husband today actually, that David Phelps is up there with John Farnham in singing. My favorite of David's non gospel tunes is Foreigner's "I Want To Know What Love Is". Just wow!!
Great reaction! Yeah, David is incredible... hard to believe this is him at age 52. Can't wait for the next David song you do... No More Night, We Shall Behold Him, there's plenty to choose from. In any case, hope you're well on your way to being 100% again. I know it's killing you to keep from singing when you're not well. It's the pits.
He is my favorite singer of all time. God said David this is going to be your talent snd he said ok. He has nailed it and his voice is singing up to Heaven and all of us here.
Nick! Loved your reaction to David! Please react to We Shall Behold Him No More Night, End Of the Beginning and His version of The Star Spangled Banner.
The Broadway that you say you detect is actually Opera, not Broadway. David is a Baylor University graduate (Texas) and his professors tried to persuade him to go into Opera but he felt the calling of His Lord Jesus and took the gospel route instead. He met his lovely wife Lori at University. I saw him live in concert last year just a couple of days after his birthday. A member of the audience shouted a Happy Birthday to him. He shared that he and his wife share the same birthday. He then said that he was actually born 2 hours before Lori was so that makes him the boss of the family. He then gave an impish grin, looked around, lowered his voice and said, "Lori didn't hear me say that, did she?"
He’s classically trained and can sing all styles. He sings opera equally as well as Broadway, pop or jazz. He picks a song and then chooses how he wants to sing it. He actually keeps getting better. Truly gifted.
You’re right he has a voice from God! He’s been my favorite male voice for nearly 30 years. He’s fabulous live in concert. I hope you’ll do more reactions of him.
Hey brother, he writes his own arrangements to some of these cover songs that's why the piano was behind his voice on the part you mentioned. And he writes many original songs. Is always I appreciate you brother
I highly recommend you do a reaction to "I've Just Seen Jesus" sung by David Phelps and Lana Ranahan. One of the best songs I've ever heard! The video is on the Gaither Music TV channel. I also suggest David's song, "No More Night."
David has such an amazing voice! I'm an eighties child, grew up listening to Whitney absolutely wow us with her power, her control, just her pure vocals! There was no one like her!! I refuse to put anyone on her level but I also was exposed to David's talents as a teen and even though they have different styles I'm blown away with how pure his voice and control is as well!! Whitney seemed untouchable to me but as time has gone on I've grown to appreciate the few that can sing with her and especially those that honor her with covers that are legit. David is legit folks!!
Heard Whitney Houston visited one of his concerts and she was blown away by him and said he was the best male vocalist she ever heard. This is full circle. Wish they would have done a duet together.
You can tell interestingly enough Katie Noonan also classically trained that Nick has just reviewed there is definitely similarities in their delivery styles.
He I think still sings as part of the Gaither vocal singers. Guy Penrod is another 1 to listen to. And Gaithers do a signing of the national anthem check it out just pure awesomeness
@@leebrown9956 Guy and David aren’t with the Gaither Vocal Band anymore, however, when there’s a Gaither Homecoming/Reunion, they will often show up and may sing but they don’t travel as a group anymore.
David graduated from Baylor University where he majored in Opera. His prof wanted him to go into opera, but her preferred to stay with gospel music. He and Whitney became friends ... or so I've read ... and they were planning on recording something together.
Whitney's voice deserved to be backed up by the best orchestras in the world. Perfect that Dave had the piano and cello. Class tribute to The Voice. The whole world should have cried when we lost her.
I've always said Whitney was a once in an era talent. I still feel that way. She had a whole other level of excellence. There are many talents in Christian music like David Phelps. Most people outside of Christian music are not aware of.
As mentioned by many of the others, he has many awesome classics, but don't forget his new stuff. He writes and arranges pretty much all of his new stuff. "Hello Beautiful", "I Remember What We thought Love Was" and "Song for Sinners" are some examples. I have enjoyed your reactions for quite some time, glad you are on the mend.
I'm glad you're feeling better. I remember a time when I was at work and had a 104.3F temp. My boss wouldn't come in early to relieve me so I had to stay for a few more hours while my tonsils got bigger and bigger. I didn't end up needing a hospital stay but it was pretty darn miserable.
To the maker of this video: are you interested in reacting to David Phelps singing this song for a second time? If yes, this time could you please do a comparison video of who sang it best between Johnny Manuel singing his cover version of I have nothing at his audition on the America's Got talent competition in 2017 vs David Phelps again also here singing his cover version of I have nothing in his official music video? In this video I would love to hear your opinion as to which of these two singers sang this song the best and why (David Phelps or Johnny Manuel) However, could you please combine the two performances together in one video and then after listening to both performances give your opinion as to which of these two singers sang this song the best and why. This should be scintillating and epic. Please give it a try.
david phelps is my favorite singer in the whole wide world!
David admired Whitney and Whitney admired David. The had that mutual admiration for each other. She also knocked it out of the park when she sang gospel. Can you imagine them doing a duet together? Maybe God's saving that for everyone when we're all in heaven together.
FYI - When Whitney was alive, she saw him live and told him he was the greatest male singer she had ever heard.
really ??????? omgggggggggggggggg

He has a voice for God. He's a vocal minister for God.

David Phelps has that extra gear that he's about to bring it........but also the same finesse level too. He's a once in generation talent
Love Gaither Group but David Phelps is on a different level He is my fav.

Great voice, probably one of the greatest male voices still active in 2022.

You've discovered the best singer ever. Welcome!
He has a beautiful voice and I really loved his version of this song

I had to search for this when u watched David sing 'O Holy Night ",
