Amazing drawing. Loved the hair on the polychromos side a bit better than the prismacolor but the skin and face on the prisma side just looks softer and more natural than the polychromos. Two great pencils for different things. Helps that they are in the hands of a talented artist. Great video.
I think you got a finer detail in the gradation on the polychromos side.
The prismacolor may lead to to easier blending, but it looks like it is also harder to control that blending, meaning it's biggest advantage is also it's biggest downfall.
Your tools should amplify your intentions, not just approximate them faster.
The finer control you have, the more detail you will have in everything you create.
exactly, I completely agree :) I loved the prismacolor side when it comes to blending the face but I prefer the hair on the faber castell one, completely agree :))
I really like your comparison.. As you said correctly for portraits prismacolor is the undisputed king for portraits. Yes luminance also excellent for portraits, polychromos is excellent for detailed studies especially animal fur... I owned 2 full 150 sets of prisma and 2 full 120 sets of poly.. prisma is the first choce for CP artists over the years but recently polychromos is the favorite for many artists because of quality issues with prisma.
Professional wise, polychromous is industry standard along with caran because of their lightfastness.
I like using Poly Chromos for hair and other details, and on bottom layers. I am not a big fan of Prisma but they have their uses, they are ok for portrait work but I prefer using Luminance or Holbein for skin, I get better results. I do like to use Prisma on top of Poly Chromo if I am doing a picture where I don't need to build the layers up so much, like with floral work. They work well together. In the end, though I like using Luminance and Lightfast better than either Prisma or Poly Chromos but I do not think any are "better". I think pencils are just tools and some are better at certain jobs than others.
Thanks! I was wondering if you could layer the FC with the PC. 👍
I like the Prismacolor side a little more for the left side lips really popped out more than the right.
I just tried my first portrait using prismacolors. I actually did better than I thought I would. References help a lot cuz you can figure out shading by how the lighting is in the picture
Thank you so much for this video!
I feel like Faber Castell has more natural blending moment but, it's just me :)
And once again, your drawing is unspeakably beautiful...
Excellent video! Thank you.
Thank you for this video. I have been using Prismacolor for years and am just now experimenting with Polychromos. I see the advantages of both, but I think I work better with Prismacolor, maybe just out of habit? :-) I love your artwork - very beautiful!
meni si pre par meseci preporucila castelellove bojice i bas sam yadovoljan njima. hvala sto delis svoje znanje s nama ;)
Just discovered your vidio great artist will be watching more.
Thank you, very happy you like my videos 😊
I have prismas and they do break even with a light hand. Who knows. But Im getting the Poly anyway. Thanks for your video
Were i live the 150 prisma colors set us more than 200 dollars and the polycromos were around 115 dollars so hearing people saying prisma is cheaper surprised me and now i don't know what to buy

@MimasArtwork Love your channel, I just wanna ask something: What sharpener you use for your prismacolor pencils? Thanks.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! :) I use the derwent sharpener for all my pencils :)
I use the actual prismacolour brand sharpener

Hii my teacher i miss u
Hi! :) I am here, always, no need to miss me! :)) Hope you are being creative :)
What is the white pen being mentioned?
It's a uni posca white gel pen :) It's so amazing :) very good for highlights, details, anything basically :)
Grazzi hafna ghal dawn il-pariri!
You are welcome!! ☺
Wouldnt a more fair comparison be achieved by using the best paper for the specific pencil?
Hey mima I drew this with your video and I think it turned out good for a first try the photo of my drawing is on my Channel and I would rly like if you saw it gave my any tips🤗🤗😊😊
Lightfastness is important for commission and gallery display, in this regard, Prisma is a no no. Nothing beats Caran and Polychromous.
Exactly, prismacolor are a great option to practice, or do a drawing if you want to seel them as prints or something, but when it comes to original work, not the greatest. But still, they are some badass pencils regardless :))
