    I liked Prismacolor until I tried my first three polychromos pencils which I purchased open stock. The Prismacolor lay down color so easily but after a few layers I found I couldn’t add any more layers, but polychromos just keeps on layering (although there might be a point where even a polychromos will not layer any more 🤷🏻‍♀️ ). Also, like many people have found, the Prismacolor core is prone to breaking on sharpening and Prismacolor crumbles. You’re so skilled the portraits are fantastic!

      I agree with this too. I like the unlimited layers with less wax bloom you get with polychromos. That being said, I find it difficult to color skin with polychromos. It takes way longer IMO. Thank you so much💙

      I feel really awk on camera😂 I have a feeling it'll be a pretty even split with people who prefer prismas vs polys! They both have very clear advantages! thanks for watching

    Which are your favorite- polychromos or prismacolor? Would you guys like me to do more supply comparison videos in the future?

      Nice video. I truly love both sets. Prismacolor does seem to be more vibrant, but I love how the Polychromos lay down and it's just a nice, sturdy pencil. How about a comparison between the Polychromos and Pablos? Or Primsa vs Luminance?

    Being in front of camera is so difficult, and most of the time I avoid it, lol. I do love Polychromos because they sharpen well, have a great range of colours and are generally just awesome. Prismacolors can also be great as they have that creamy vibrancy, but my ones break so much and it absolutely does my head in. Possibly new ones are better? Mine are quite a few years old now…right around the same time when there were a lot of videos coming out complaining about how dodgy they are. I like Prismas in colouring books though! 💚 I have both full sets….big surprise, eh! 😂

      Polychromos are great quality and great to use also! I use some prismacolors with the kids at work and they are constantly breaking in the awful sharpener we have there, and the poor kids are always bringing them to me to sharpen again😂 they break like Crayolas. I am frustrated with it and think I'll just bring some better quality sharpeners to work. Mine and the ones at work are also old, so it would be interesting to grab a few new ones open stock and see if theres any difference. Its too bad about the quality and lightfastness because the performance of the pencil is great!😭

    Could you please tell me what paper you use? I just bought a 120-set Polychromos. As a beginner, I try different papers and I am not satisfied with any of them. Thank you in advance.

    • @AlexisCassandraArt
      @AlexisCassandraArt  Рік тому

      Oof its hard because everyone is different. What about Stonehenge drawing paper? Not overly thick or textured. If you're a fan of a thicker paper, maybe try a hot pressed cotton watercolor paper

      @ndteam8677 Рік тому

      Thank you very much for your answer. In the meantime, I found and tried Musa Tabula Bristol 240g, which is very smooth, but the drawing looks good. I'm also going to try hot pressed watercolor paper which I have to buy as I only have cold pressed one.@@AlexisCassandraArt

    I found i prefer to not sharpen prismas to such a sharp point. I use polychromos when i need that fine point.

    I would love to see a video of you using both of them together! That's what I used to do, but haven't done in years. I did it out of necessity because I couldn't get details with the Prismas.
    I do love Prismas but they're separated from my other pencils because the way I use them (smooshing them together, blending by burnishing) is so different from my usual colored pencil work on sanded paper. Plus lightfastness issues, the wax bloom, open stock availability....
    So I rarely get my Prismacolors out.
    On the other hand, I use maybe 10 of my Polychromos on a regular basis. Out of all the popular pencils, Polychromos have the absolute worst color range in my opinion. Other brands have better color ranges at 72 or 100 pencils.

    • @AlexisCassandraArt
      @AlexisCassandraArt  2 роки тому +2

      The prismas definitely require a different coloring method! I think using them together would be fun. I don’t really use my prismacolors anymore so it would be fun to pull those out again. The lightfast issue just bothers me. The polychromos color range might work well for botanicals and things like that, but for portraits, ugh

    Do you have Derwent Lightfast? I am fully decided to buy it's 12 colors, with that small set, there are already 5 colors that are essentials for portrait, 7 in total if we include the black and white.

    Prismacolor for me. I find it is stronger in pigment. Polychromos takes forever to get darker tones. Prismacolor is better for mixed media as I can draw better on top of guoache and watercolour. I have been told luminance is better than polychromos.

    • @AlexisCassandraArt
      @AlexisCassandraArt  Рік тому

      Prismas are definitely higher in pigment. Try luminance out, I think you'd like how they combine the strong pigment of prisma with slightly more firmness like polys:)

    The only downside is polychromos takes forever to layer when doing face portraits, too long for me. Luminance allows me to do skin tones faster

    • @AlexisCassandraArt
      @AlexisCassandraArt  Рік тому +1

      Yup, I agree. It does help to use polychromos for the hair portion since they work so well for that, and luminance for the skin.
