Another cool video idea would be to do like an interview and paint with some of the creators whose names you put on your products...ninjon brushstrokes etc. talk about what got them into the hobby how they decide on a paint schemes what it's like doing competition painting etc... would be really cool to watch
Love this idea, I've long thought an interesting take would be me trying to paint like (Painter), sure it'd be educational, and I'd get a first-hand handle on their style, which'd help me ask better questions and hopefully give others some good points (like Fauxhammer Ross' excellent video on my style)
That would me awesome byron
Right on time. I was just searching on how to do this effect and you're the only one to have this sort of tutorial. Now if you follow this with a translucent wings video I'll be convinced you're reading my mind.
No risk of that for a bit, I'd like to watch that so I could learn 😅 happy to help with this one, though!
Your "Failure" looks better than my best.
“Failure” of a test. Looks dang good by my standard. What the heck man xD
:D all part of the journey, it helped us get where we got!
This is the kind of thing that I struggle with. There was a long period of time where the wing looked "wrong" to me as I was watching. If it were me painting, it would be a challenge to know what to do during that whole stretch. Very grateful for this video! I learned a lot along the way!
Hard, right? This is why you *must* be OK with experimenting, remind yourself it might work out ok, hold some principles in time, and trust the process (it doesn't always work - my test in this vid, that's OK, too :))
Absolutely great effect ! Thanks for the tutorial !
Just swinging by sir to say my set of dry brushes I bought off you guys during the lockdown are still going strong!
Could not be happier with them they have made my miniature painting fun again for last few years so nice one guys 👌
Need a new set of standard brushes, convinced me go Artis Opus.
Gorgeous colour combination & outcome
Cheers, KM!
Another awesome video, Byron. Would love to see more videos of you using these techniques on smaller miniatures, much like the Blood Angel you did earlier in the year!
We'll be doing a lot of infantry very soon... for reasons :D. Although we have an excuse to do even bigger minis, too, spoiled for choice! Keep your eyes peeled around black Friday!
that dragon wing looks fantastic!! So jealous!
Thanks buddy, it's very doable, just need to find the right subject :)
If I hadn’t just watched this done , I would swear it was metallic shift paint 😮 Amazing talent and technique. Another load of paint to buy 😖😖😖 Thanks for the inspiration Byron 👍
You're welcome/sorry, Vicky! :D any time 😅
Somehow missed this one. I've got the old Forge World Lord of Change sitting untouched for a long time that I need to be brave enough to tacke. This is some serious inspiration for it!
I love watching your videos, I have learned a lot and grown as a painter. Thank you!! Any advice on what colors to use for dark red base and a purple underneath?
End result with the pearl is awesome!
Don't know if I like this one or the last one is the best... I've got to try both (-:
one for wings, one for skin? ;)
My suggestion is actually for a product nota video, I think it could be really cool if it is even possible to do a Series D set where the outside of the box lid doubles as a mini texture pallette!
We have a texture palette that fits inside the box! :D
store.artis-opus.com/products/texture-palette-choose-from-4-options-preorder
@@ArtisOpus that’s awesome! The only reason I say on top is my current Series M are permanently sat on my desk in the box next to me so having a pallet there might be a novelty
gorgeous wings
I have really enjoyed your videoes! It has really got me into the hobby side. I have expanded my toolbox so much!
I really like the metal in this video. What is the base colour that you use before you are doing the overbrushing with retributor armor and the silver?
Another great video. Love that your style stays so focused on the painting with good explanation with the touch of your editor ;-), hope the shows have been treating you well!
Have you ever considered doing a magnum opus journey series? In which you select a model to paint for golden demon, and invite other painters to teach you stuff in a video and in the next you apply what you learned on your golden demon entry? Could a fun way to learn and teach at the same time. Think could be very cool to see how your paint technique could evolve when you can learn from other painters you respect or implement the way they do things. For instance Angelo Di Chello's way of doing metallics, Sprockets stippeling and glazing technique, etc.
Thanks man, and they have, but happy to be back!
Love that idea, it's something I've considered, just need to find a way to package it well, and commit myself, of course!
Good references there, too, two of the best, and had the pleasure of meeting both in real life, they're both lovely :)
Hmm interesting new gadgets, you've got me using dry brush more think its still going to take some practice
I digging this more and more, i hope it easy to learn thinking of forking out the cash for everything. To bad Alpha spel my store in Sweden never has stock of the products.
Another great video, love that pearlescent effect on the wings. Would you use drybrushes for NMM? I'd love to see a video on that. Keep up the good work Brother Byron 🤘
ua-cam.com/video/iLjfexdCVpQ/v-deo.html&ab_channel=ArtisOpus
Absolutely, dude! We've done it a little, but it's something to return to.
It's especially got merit starting it off, I think, ironically you use the same techniques TMM or NMM
@@ArtisOpus I used your TMM technique on my sky dwarves and they turned out great, but my last attempt at NMM with traditional layering looked like ass so I'd like to try again with drybrushing. I'll have a look through your back catalogue now for an NMM video, thanks dude!
perfect, just as i got a dragon to paint :D
Perfect timing!
Another great video, wonder what the result following this tutorial would look on Harlequins Starweavers or WraithKnight. Giving me some idea to paint my Aeldaris Thanks a lot.
WraithKnight would be pretty perfect, imo, really good shapes/mini for it. Good luck man, let us know how it goes!
@@ArtisOpus thanks for the advice
I love that miniature painting handle (plywood / cork holder). Could a handle like that possibly be considered as a future Artis Opus accessory?
It's in prototyping ;) they'll be wonderful, but you can't rush working on ergonomics, which we are putting first and foremost (it's for holding!)
Would like to see how you would paint with actual colorshift paints/pigments/powders. This is was a nice effect, but real stuff can add movement
I think another cool follow on video to this would be doing a pearlescent scheme but in something that is a bit more flat, comparatively, to the wings. So something like tyranid carapace.
Also, if you were to do a satin or gloss varnish, would that change the method that you did with the iridescent at all?
Great question, I don't *think* so, I think I'd go satin, rather than gloss though.
Note: if you wash over like we did (with shades not contrasts) they'll get a little more satin/shiny anyway
@@ArtisOpus awesome! Thank you for the advice. I'm hoping to try something like this with the new ravaged star miniatures. Thanks for the awesome videos as always!
Love your content! Stumbled across your channel a couple of videos ago. I do have one question. Will the dry brushing techniques I've seen on your channel work with Battletech mechs?
Absolutely man, they're perfect with all of that texture!
The palette is very reminiscent of Thousand Sons. It would work great on something like Screamers of Tzeentch with their textured backs, but how do you think it'll translate to smooth surfaces like Space Marines?
An inspiration video. How to break the rutt of not painting. Where to get inspiration for a scheme from and why painting is not something to get stressed over.
As an example the amount of people I know who habe horde armies and cant bring themselves to paint them becausd the only schemes they can think of seem so daunting to paint 300 skaven with. A video to help those poor buggers out would be swell... and yes its because their unpainted armies make my pictures look terrible 😂😂😂
A suggestion and subject close to many of our hearts!
When will you announce the Edge Highlighting video's giveaway and how will you contact the winners? 😇😅
Love your channel keep it up . Love your brushes wish it could be discounted . I’ve killed 2 smalls in less then 6 months 😅
Make sure you check out the site when we announce black friday stuff, it won't be what you think, but it will help, I promise! ;)
@@ArtisOpus thank you I’ll eye eye out for it
Sort if I missed this somewhere, but where is the dragon model from?
It's Ionus Cryptborn (box was 'cryptborn's stormwing') - for the stormcast eternals
@@ArtisOpus Awesome well that’s just made the Christmas list!! (Together with some #ArtisOpus brushes ofc 😉)
These wings looked amazing. But as i promised im going to ask anyone reading this for their favourite colour for a dragon. Still going to say green for myself. Please let me know and maybe we can force Byron to paint another!!
Silver...I love silver dragons from d&d they're my favorite
@@whoissyx let's up the challenge nmm silver or tmm?
Honestly, it's very hard to pick a specific colour.
If we're talking about AD&D dragons my money would be on Sun Dragons from Spelljammer. If we're talking about D&D 5E, then Black with the horns facing forward is truly menacing.
@@darrenj3720 yes
Tough one because I think it really depends on the design which colour I like most. But in general I think I am leaning towards deep orange.
As the king of dry brushing and someone who seems to mostly not use a wet pallet, do you have any tips or tricks to getting your paints to last longer on the pallet? I have followed a few of your videos nearly 1 to 1 and I seem to go through a lot of paint due to colours drying out. Other than that love your vids and if you need ideas id love to see your take on chaos space marines, ill take any tips or tricks you can offer
I think a video on combining techniques is definitely due!
Anyone know what figure that is? I can’t seem to find it on GW’s new website. EDIT: Never mind…found it in the comments: Cryptborn’s Dragonwing.
Are we getting a black friday sale this year?
Enquiring minds wish to know.
You'll be getting black Friday *products* this year ;). Very exciting ones!
Your channel got me into painting so I look forward to grabbing as much as I can. I love dry brushing! @@ArtisOpus
As a colorblind painter that wet pallet would ruin me. All those colors together would be so difficult to tell apart.
I can imagine, it could help if you put the pots beside each line of paint then you would have an idea. Sorry I can't help further.
Nothing wrong with a bit of labelling! Chris and I have chatted a little about something that kind of helps with this, it's still a concept, but we're on it, we hear you! :)
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
:D 🐉
Or a video where you don't abuse those poor defenceless washes 😂😂😂😂😂😂😭😭😭😭😭
:D a first time for everything!
