New to the channel? I do Let's Play videos -- these are like walkthrough guides of gameplay with continuous English commentary trying to explain my decisions and what strategy I use. If you're looking for hacks or cheats, you're in the wrong place! - Ігри
So uh, anyone else think Napoleon's image is just straight up Mads Mikkelsen.
Quill: You WANT to have an idle worker early game since many events will promote them for free! Also you want to get 2xPhilosophers ASAP, tech is super important!
The goal is really to balance your Food, Ore and Science production, lag in one of them and you will suffer!
Ah, yes, the famed Bronze Mines of Quilltopia, the only place in history capable of producing alloys from the Earth
No!!! Don't give Quill an undo button in a Civ game. This will take forever...
Very nice video. Like the tactical talk about how to maximize your turn. Seems to be a lot of depth to this game.
Nice work as always Quill keep it up
Petra!
Well I ll be watching this series seems interesting.
I love through the ages! Great game to play with friends and a brew or two!
So apparently Quill didn't realize that the value of 1 blue cube depends on the building producing it. So if you have 4 Bronze or 2 Irons, they produce 4 ore each, but the first one will eat through your blue cube stockpile twice as fast. 3 Bronze is a great way to get early corruption, that's why you need to upgrade everything to Iron ASAP.
When he wanted to play monarchy, he took printing press and got the 8th technology. He did not realize he could play it without revolution. Nooooooo
i saw that too!!
This is an amazing board game, enjoy it!
Man I wish board games were more popular where I live, I've only ever really played online with board game simulator! :D
if you live in the US, and anywhere remotely close to a large city, i almost guarantee that there is a board game meetup around, from meetup.com. not sure if meetup's exist for other countries though.
same....
PotatoMcWhiskey If there is a university close to where you live there should be gatherings to play with! Board games are more popular than ever in many places!
Unfortunately I live in Ireland and the number of people interested in board games outside monopoly / kids board games is extremely limited.
PotatoMcWhiskey I just googled "board game groups ireland" and there were a few results. you could also look for any gaming hobby shops(they often allow people to play board games there, IE: any place that sells Games Workshop products). or start your own group for the area you're in, if a little google-fu'ing doesn't get you there.
I had to play this game as a project in my uni. We had to analyse and justify our actions while taking into account the actions of the adversaries. Pretty addicting game
You should do a video with the awesome, awesome tutorial!
Not only your viewer will learn how to play, but also the tutorial is REALLY fun!
Mese Mecheka "You can also finish a wonder immediately by spending three diamonds. Just kidding, this is NOT that kind of game!"I was laughing so hard at that! :D
My favorite boardgame! This game is pretty damn awesome and was hoping Quill would give it a go. The AI is really strong.
Through the Ages is my favourite board game currently, the app is pretty good as well.
It will take forever to play a board-game with this guy.
The tabletop version takes number of players * hours in my experience. Like many Vlaada Chvatil games, it's a borderline computer game - it's much, much faster if you let the computer do the bookkeeping.
But people who are not Vlaada Chvatil who try to make these sort of simulationist games, are much worse on that regard. I met two guys on a boardgaming meetup once, who pushed their football board game. It took considerably longer than an actual football game.
Hey Quill, I'm sure you are aware, but Twilight Struggle has also been available for PC for some time. It is quite political, but it is also an excellent game to try :)
You know... This is the very first time I heard anyone mention boardgamegeek.com on UA-cam. Lol... Oddly nostalgic as I don't go there much these days
I have this board game, but no one will ever play it with me.
Kevin Krahn I would.
i am lucky and i found some people to play with !!
Are you in California?
Oh man that turn when he picked up the tech card he had 8 science to drop monarchy
This game seems to be pretty similar to Civ.
"Culture wins the game"
Hmm, maybe not...
The best boardgame ever made :)
"At some point in time we will build a wonder" who are you and what have you done with Quill18!
I love deck building games.
T0mmy9898 Nightfall, Legendary, Trains, MageKnight and Quarriors?
looks cool :P
I think many of the Quill followers would love this game IRL! However, never play it on 4 players live, it just adds A LOT of time compared to 3 players! Happy gaming
Quill that is just a round-bottomed flask. It has no fancy name. If it had a flatter bottom, then it would be an older style of flask called a Florence flask, which are not generally used by professional chemists anymore (though there are always exceptions). Really chemistry does not generally use fancy names for its glassware. The conical flask is sometimes known as an Erlenmeyer flask, after its inventor, but, at least in the UK, this is very uncommon. Really only specialised glassware where there are multiple types that all perform roughly the same function have specific names, generally the name of their inventor. For example, both the Schlenk flask and the Buechner flask can both be evacuated and thus could both be called vacuum flasks, as could the Dewar flask (thermos to lay people!), so it is more common to refer to these flasks by their specific names to avoid confusion.
George Laidlaw The Germans call it "Erlenmeyerkolben" exclusively. Greetings, chemist from Germany.
should have gone for irrigation+hanging gardens on your first turn IMO.
Omg I've been wanting to get this game for such a long time, but it's just so expensive (like all boardgames lol)!
HobomanCat1 Well, theres expensive and then theres EXPENSIVE when it comes to boardgames. Which category does this one belong to?
I guess it's a lot cheaper now, but when I first heard about it a couple years ago, I remember it being at least over 100 dollars I think.
The facepalm when he didn't use the 8 science to get monarchy...
You missed a chance to play your monarchy without a revolution because you forgot about your leaders tech gain bonus, not sure how impactful that is since I've never played the game before but you may want to be more conscious of your bonuses to avoid future missed opportunities.
Other than that looks like an interesting series and I'm rooting for you against the AI overlords.
How mutch is this game in steam
Here's an Age IV expansion for Through The Ages (makes the game *very* long): individual.utoronto.ca/michaelelliot/Age%20IV.pdf
This reminds me of Seven Wonders.
yeah, but this is older than 7 Wonders, and a more complex game... also it goes through the ages to the modern times, while 7 wonders is basically stuck in one thematic age
Never played this game before and looks interesting. Just saw this game on app store and its 14 dollars. Do you guys think its worth the money or should I wait for a sale?
Leonard Tan I got it a few days ago and I love it. The tutorial is the best tutorial I have ever seen, the game design is brilliant and the Ai is very competent. It has like 4.9 rating on Android. Hard to find anything with a rating this high.
Civilization the original board game (1980), replaced by Sid Meier's computer game Civilization, now being replaced (per Quill) by the Through the Ages board game.... which has a lot in common with the original Civilization board game... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilization_(1980_board_game)
I didn't realise that changing the AI facepic was also changing the difficulty...no wonder I'm always losing!
And I just commented on your last video about you not doing enough board games
Hmm if you have unhappy faces and not enough free workers to cover them, what happens is that there's a revolt and you skip your production phase that turn.
I have a official civilization board game and I like it but it really complicated and a lot of people don't like it because of that
Settlers of Catan Quill?
More BGN pls.
Nooo take the Pyramids!!
Play mashinky please ^^
Yet
13 hours in game and still can not beat easy AI :)
Civilisation the boardgame isn't all that bad, but you need to devote as much time to it as the actual computer game, and the combat is even more of a coinflip. This game is probably considerably cheaper all round than Civilisations official boardgame as well.
MiJaPaBo it surprised me how much it capture the feeling and complexity of civ IV whilst still being manageable to play.
Android and iOS is the phrase you are looking for.
Yeah Quill, a real shame that you have too many friends...
When playing against the AI it is possible to rename your opponents. :-)
Your explanation is confusing.
Totally lost me.
