MPC + Ableton Live Workflow // Sometimes you just gotta make a track

  • Fell into a bit of a funk and realized i hadn't made music in a few days! Sometimes its what we love to do that might seem like a chore, but its putting it off which is making it harder to do. Does that make sense? Anyway, tag a long in how i make house music in Ableton Live using an MPC, Peak, Pro 3, and Some other fun tidbits. This is my approach to multitracking MPC into a DAW.

Love how you didn't edit this too much, makes it so real. Eg. seeing you search a little bit for the G min notes makes all the difference between watching a technical 'virtuoso' vs someone who's trying to make something from scratch with just his feeling and ears. I don't say this a lot, but this one was especially inspiring! 💖

This is hands down one of my favorite videos I’ve seen. Reiterating what everyone else has said, keep this unedited in terms of troubleshooting just really makes this video feel natural. We have similar equipment and workflow ideas, seeing the troubleshooting makes it feel like I’m just watching myself make beats, but I’m removed from it and it’s relaxing to watch. Even though we all love making music, sometimes it can go from relaxing to tedious. It’s nice to just chill and watch someone make beats all the way through the process.

Music's been hit really hard and being at home so much is playing on, and with, the minds of many of us. I was in a deep funk myself from April to August in the UK, just from not getting out much. Making music as a newbie and taking regular early morning walks has helped, big time. Just to let you know we're with you and care about what you do, you inspire us to go and do, and create ourselves. We'll all be good if we can get through the next 6-8 months. yep @James White is correct. Clarett 8PreX and a Saffire Octopre Dynamic
Any sequencer and S3200 would be a good fit for sure! I love the swing of the 3000 but the DT has decent swing too

Ricky Tinez Do all the new MPCs have the same swing as the 3000? For instance the MPC live. I’m looking for a way to sequence my gear and sample stuff on the fly so I can get into the flow of things.

@Ricky, if you were stuck on an island you'd take the digitakt. Could you talk a little about why the 3000 is kind of your centerpiece now, as opposed to the other MPCs (which I assume you still own), and why not the Octatrack or Digitakt? Would it be fair to say that the 3000 is purely for studio work, while the Elektron stuff is used to take on the road for live shows?
I am asking, because I am deciding between those options, and I must say the Octatrack and Digitakt for some reason look intimidating to me, while the 3000 looks approachable... could be wrong of course, just seems to me maybe because of its layout, it doesn't seem like every little space is crammed with buttons and knobs, and it seems more playable with the large pads. Anyways, love these go-from-scratch videos, always fun.

Are you using post fade aux outputs from your mixer to sample everything into the mpc? Trying to find the best routing option if I have several sample sources trying to find my mpc / octatrack.
PS. Your 3k jog wheel sounds like a duck quacking. Lol!

Yoyo dope videos as always :)
    Had a few questions:
Do you have any latency with monitoring your gear is ON in Live?
How are you routing all your audio? I love how you have everything trigger ready to live sample on the MPC!
Same note but Midi - how you routing your midi? I have the Multiclock and saw your video on it, great vid btw, but how are you using that method + allowing the MPC to sequence and control some of your gear like the Peak etc.?
Thanks in advance, sorry for the multiple deep questions :))

Ricky - pretty sure that when you stick an External Effect device on the PRS24 track you're spitting out from Ableton, it'll keep that clock active when you solo anything else in Ableton.
