Just wanted to drop a quick note on MPC 1000 Pricing. I have a link to see some used prices here - reverb.grsm.io/mpc1k And as much as i LOVE the 1000s don't pay more than $600 for one.. They're incredible, but i don't know, you might not like the "old school"-ness of it. ALSO don't buy the blue one. They have an older pad setup where each pad is a pain to replace if needed. The Black mpc 1000 has a single sheet of sensors which is cheaper and easier, and lasts longer in some cases.
Ricky Tinez the blue ones that have a black back plate are good tho - those were made in a different plant and have the sheet version of the pads. I have a black mpc1k with a silver back plate - it had the individual pads when I got it and I upgraded. Just wanted to say the black ones can also have the bad pads. Black back plate = good /// silver back plate = bad I got granular in some forums and saw others discussing.
I absolutely *love* seeing "how the sausage is made". The mistakes, two steps forward-one step back, happy accidents and inspired 1-takes. Thank you for showing people how much *fun* the process can be.
Seriously. I love how Ricky keeps in all the bad parts and is honest about it (not trying to make it a flawless video) and then you see the part that clicks and makes it awesome.
This just became the best MPC 1k vid on youtube in years; If you're smart with these things you can run an entire full-scale pop production from a single project, no laptop needed.
One of the best things about your videos is the vibe of your house style... it reminds me of those classic 90s deep house tracks where there's just chill sounds and feel, nothing too crazy going on.. it definitely has a throwback feel to it.
I've never owned an MPC, and seeing someone rock the workflow really opened my eyes. Just by watching this process, a bunch of puzzle pieces fell into place regarding house music production. The way you sequenced parts on the MPC sounds exactly like the 1000's of records I've purchased over the years. Thanks for taking the time to show this process. I never realized now how much house music production centered around just this one platform alone, and just how much the workflow really affected the sound itself. It's one thing to talk about the influence of the MPC academically; it's altogether another to see it in process. I kind of regret not starting with an MPC because the overall sound really matches up with the kind of music I enjoy making. When I sit down to make my next track, I'll be thinking about some of the techniques you use in this workflow and try to use what I've learned. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
I bought a 1k because of you. Currently putting all my effort in to my Deluge, but the MPC is sat there waiting. This is the best 1000 video ive seen on youtube so far!
thanks ricky for that inspiring video here from berlin. because of you i bought the mpc1000 and totally love it. I'm a huge fan of your channel and many folks over here in Berlin, too. keep on inspiring people!
I always dug the MPC 1000. It definitely fell into the "why did they ever stop making that?" catagory. I liked all the after market custom goodies too, nice to have the ability to make your machine unique.
Hi Ricky, quick tip : if you want to go faster with the data wheel, press shift at the same time as you use it, and you’ll increase value 10 by 10 rather than 1 by 1. It will save your wheel life span ;-) Mpc1000 is the best! Had mine for 15years and it’s still the hub of my synth setup. With JJ OS 2xl of course!
Hey Ricky, really enjoyed this video and nice to see the 1000 again. I’ve noticed they’ve seemingly had a resurgence. It was my first MPC back in 2008. I got it used and they’ve held their price all this time. Something I’ve never done well is organise my sample library on an MPC but your system looks refined for quick creation. Perhaps you could do a video at some point on your sample management and especially on an MPC. Keep up the good work! Sam
Nice to watch. I've been so productive making records with my MPC 2000 in the past. Will eventually get back to an MPC. It's just so quick and creative.
The most influential instrument of the 21st century. Complete DAW replacement in 2020. No newer MPC, or 99% of sequencers can sequence over MIDI like this thing can. Still a great sampler, also. Newer pads might be easier.
I have the mpc 1000 for about two weeks now and Im running the jjos2xl, watching this video I feel like I know a tiny bit of the software, I've watched like 10 minutes and I already discover like 10 functions that I didnt know about Keep uploading this kind of videos plz
Just checking in to say i like your video's, great for people who need to understand clearly. As an MPC user for a long time, I appreciate your method on this one.
Thanks for this ! I've learnt more about how to use the mpc 1k watching this than watching a stack of "tutorials" over the last 6 months.... thanks Ricky Tinez 👊
agree with others - a really nice video! shows the basics of house production, and shows how quick you could program nice patterns. I would be so happy to see more in-dept videos of some JJOS functions, like Pattern to PAD, and lots of others. There are just a few mpc1000 tutorials online, which is weird, considering how many machines were made, and all of them are so uninspiring comparing to yours thank you
As a long time MPC1k user this was super nice to watch, I use it exactly the same, lots of same workflow. What you did not do that I do quite often is making a program from single cycle waveform, makes really nice sort of lofi budget synth with some filters etc. Glad to see dedication to MPC 1000!
Oh damn that’s genius!!! Especially since you have all the typical subtractive synthesis parameters on each pad.. daaammnnn. Thank you for sharing that
No probs! Only thing is that if you use lots of those on same sequence and do poly stuff, voice limits can start to get to you. But that is on more extreme cases, some easy chords with other stuff like you have going are totally possible!
I hope that I can learn how to do this when I get my first akai. I'm getting ready to get the mpc one as my first unit. You are a great teacher. I'm now a follower of your page.
I own a MPC 1000 because of you, and a Circuit and a Octatrack, GODDAMN YOU my poor wallet. Never used the 16 levels thing, thanks for the tip. I wish JJ would add a loop start point tho so you can loop the tail without having the initial hit in the loop
X-101 you can do that in JJOS, both 1 and 2XL at least. if you look around 9:50 in the video when he sets the sample to loop, another parameter shows up on the top bar, “Lp” for the loop start point (distinct from “St” for the playback start point). if the lock symbol is “unlocked” then you can edit these points independently!

Dude, I've been using the Data Wheel to scroll thru the alphabet to name my programs/samples etc. hahahaha Learning a lot! Cheers!
one of the best mpcs, a reason to own an mpc. jjosxl is essential and so performance friendly. im diggin the force tho, but jjosxl is a keeper. akai would do well to try and hire jj. the 2500 is the best version imo, its nice to have 4 q-link sliders. you can also fit a roland data knob on that has a much better feel, might even be a different plastic but is also low profile.
Super-fun video. I'm probably never going to own an MPC 1000, but it's fun to watch your process regardless of the gear. In fact, it's not the gear that makes this fun for me. It's your process. That said, I'm sure people who do use this gear love that aspect of it also.
Thank you for this video! I’m running jjos2xl, and I’ve got gotten into the habit of using the same limited number of features. You’re reminding and teaching me of so much more that I can be using. Such a great machine and such a deep OS.

This video is so well presented. Looks great. Sounds great. Your voiceover is calm and informative. 😎😎 I’ve been making electronic music for 30 years and I miss the days where I knew my kit inside out. Where you had to know your hardware front to back and beyond even what the manufacturers intended or expected. Hardware was expensive. You didn’t have much of it. So you had to dig deep. These days it’s all too easy to get ‘just one more’ VST and pull up the first couple of sounds you hear. My bad. I should really spend more time getting inside each instrument. ⛅️ 🎹
Hi Ricky, super nice that you made this videos, super much appreciated. I have an Mpc for a long time ....but I never find out how to save the projects in order to load multiple Sequences ....in case I want to do go to the next sequencer. I always save the entire memory in a folder but if try to load them all ...is overwriting. i also save the all the tracks and programs with different name. Thanks in advance
had a 1k and 500 for years, loved them but could never gel with doing everything in one box. for me it was always like the central midi clock/transport control i used to sync everything. midi out 1 goes to the hardware drum machines, midi out 2 to the computer and if i had synths my computer was controlling the synths because i prefer to midi edit on ableton when i had a machinedrum i would write like the core rhythm on that and then use the mpc midi out to embellish on top with note repeat for the fills then cap it in ableton and wipe the sequences. maybe because i never had the jjos but i could just never get into sample or midi editing on it, id make sequences on it but dump them almost immediately to ableton and never save them on the mpc

You can use the Shift function on the slider too if it's anything like the 2000XL
