- The rest of the story as told by Carl Perkins in a 1996 interview with Goldmine magazine which ran in the 1998 Beatles edition: "She (Linda) said, "There's two people in the world that know what John Lennon said to Paul, the last thing he said to him. Me and Paul are the only two that know that, but now there's three...you know it. I said, "Girl, you're freaking me out!...She said the last words that John Lennon said to Paul in the hallway of the Dakota building were...he patted him on the shoulder, and said, "Think about me every now and then, old friend."'

Now I know why Paul McCartney didn’t give up on the new song “Now and Then” Significant personal meaning to him.
Yep, it's the last song for his best friends, especially his best of best friend. I cried many tears when I heard it.
@@bamacopeland4372 I cried for two weeks.
Same thing happened while Olivia Harrison was putting an old clock George had bought on the mantle. Paul called her to ask if it was okay to work on the song written by John that he, Ringo, and George had started working on in 1994. As she was looking at the clock Paul told her the song was called 'Now and Then', and the clock had the words 'Now' and 'Then' written on it.
Source?.
@@pacoferpez6047 Olivia posted the story on George's social media accounts when the song came out.
That's why the photo of the clock is on the back of the, "Now and Then," single cover.
It’s heartbreaking when Paul gets too choked up at times to not be able to sing.😥
That gave me shivers, when Paul called him. That's crazy!? But the story about the song is beautiful.
if the Beatles recorded ' my old friend ' it would have been a hit
That was no coincidence, him singing that song to Paul with those lyrics at the end. People can think otherwise, and thats their right, but that was John, dropping off a message to his mate that everything is ok.
Personally, I've witnessed myself on spiritboxes, and old friends who had just passed tell me how much they missed me and our other friends. Reading about it and actually experiencing something like that changes your worldview. There is so much more going on around us than we could ever imagine.
Carl left out the most important fact in that story. Paul was crying because the last thing John said to him was in the hallway of The Dakota. “Think of me now and then, old Friend” as he patted Paul on the back.
Paul had never had a full out hard cry of grief since John died.
Carl Perkins had no idea of that fact.
Writing that song for Paul and Linda was no coincidence. John helped him write it.
Part of Beatles mythology.
Unproven and I doubt it true or Carl would have mentioned it.

Not everything needs to be public information... Much respect for them to leave it within..
@R Rolyan
I've seen watched the interview where he talks about his dreams of John and his last words to him. I cried watching. it.

How crazy is it that Paul called as Carl finished playing the song and talking about it. That’s insane!
That was nuts
😳😳😳
😇😇😇
spooky. Lennons spirit was there
Otherworldly connection
Carl Perkins touches my heart. There's something special about that guy.
The way Paul looks at him is incredible. Like he's in awe (to be fair, we all should be). How did Paul react to John telling him that? Did he think it was odd? Like "where are you going"? Did John know? It's all just eerie, in a beautiful way.
The Beatles were huge Carl Perkins fans, especially George.
George played a Carl song at his funeral, the Beatles really respected Carl and his talent! He was one of the biggest influences they had starting out!
there is a video of that or used to be

Paul has the gift. At 4:00 and 5:40, and then at 6:25, brilliant, just brilliant. And Carl, a lovely song, well sung, really tapped into something.
What a humble man . not like the selfish assholes today . Thank You .
After watching Get Back I’ve realized how close, connected John and Paul were. This story is truly amazing!
This song chokes me up every time I hear it,he's so sincere ,so sweet. RIP Mr. Perkins.
One this is certain, neither Paul or Carl knew John had recorded a demo tape called “now and then” prior to his death, and Carl wrote this just a few months after Lennon died.
Yoko didn’t give the demo tape of “now and then” to the Beatles until 1994 or so.
The coincidences are mind blowing.
Coincidences are just that. They prove nothing, except to those who need to believe.

Thanks atheist man,for cleaning up the dogma front.@@barrybaddams7095
This is incredible. The phone call at the end!
Beautiful story.
Carl Perkins was such an innovator in rock and roll.
Just Wow. So glad I found this clip and this story. Thank you Carl
I just started bawling watching this… I love them 😭
Me too!!!
What a story-could it be that John channeled a message to Paul through the beautiful Carl! I do believe! 🙏
That is what happened
This Song WILL make you cry. I hear Elvis singing the ending. “Carl, Paul McCartney just called…he asked if you could ring up John for him”. 🩵
Obviously, somebody must have been cutting onions while I was watching this...
I don`t need onions. I am 73 years old and have dementia. One of the lesser known things about dementia, is that the emotions are EXTREME. It takes very little to have me in tears :(
Many may not know. Carl was an evangelist... The Holy Spirit will have you say things unaware that can turn out to be just what's needed for the moment. Have seen it happen more than once. The person speaking is not consciously doing it. He just felt like saying it.... God is the God of all comfort.
Amen!
I'd LOVE to HEAR the FULL unedited Conversation! Dang!
This brings tears to my edyes every time I hear it . . .
I Love Paul & Carl ,Rest in peace Carl ! You brought joy & happiness to many people. Thanks Paul for your friendship & love for Carl . I get tears of Joy watching this video every time I watch it.
Thank you so much. This has been wonderful and I have shared it with all my musician friends
What a wonderful song👍
Great!! Great!! GREAT!!!!
wow that makes me cry
Carl Perkins was present at The Beatles recording session for Matchbox in 1964. Some writers have claimed Perkins played along with the group.
Great song and upload. Thank a lot!!
When songs were beautiful!
A Paul siempre le ha dado bien hacer la voz de acompañamiento. John cuando cantaba,no parecia el mismo cuando tenia la voz de Paul acompañandolo 😍
Amazing!
Why did they edit out the part after Carl says ''Now tell me this boy hasn't got a connection to the spirit world'' ???????
I think Paul is a believer as are all the Beatles in spirit worlds and non duality. RIP John and George.
Long live Paul and Ringo.
2:48 won’t you think about me every NOW AND THEN…
What a heartwarming story!!! 🥰
Beautiful carl
Thats a great song. Carl was a real talent
So while Carl is telling this story Paul calls ? That's crazy .......Paranormal connection to John too.
Tvo LEGEND.....❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Legend
Que bella historia 😢❤
Sweet & Precious
😭😭😭😭😭
Hey Mr Perkins gimme a bar for the Blues ! MV
Oh wow
OMG I'd like to think John had something to do with Carl's inspiration to write that song. Perhaps he was sending Paul a message through this song.
It gives me comfort to think it’s true.
Wow
We are not humans having a spiritual experience. We are spirits having a human experience. Yes there is communication from the other side to us still here.
Luminous beings are we… not this crude matter. - Master Yoda
😭😭😭😭😭😭😳
At 71 yrs. old with lots of witnessing and experiences I've come to the conclusion : religion is nonsense, but the spirit world is real.
The 1st time I heard this song, I got a Real Lump in The Throat.
The Album "Go Cat Go" do yourself a favor, get it. You ears will thank you.
...and just as he is talking about the psychic connection between John, Paul and that song, who calls him? Paul. Yeah, something uncanny is going on for sure.
❤️😭❤️😭❤️
the beatles were really big fans of carl perkins, especially george. when they went on their very first tour (before ringo joined) they all changed their names, and george changed his to Carl Harrison (after Carl Perkins)
Does anyone know what year the interview took place?
1993
It's all about their relationship and mutual connection with God. God bless them both.
ouch
Not that it would be authentic, or even a good idea, but what if someone created an AI of John singing it.
Instead our AI overlords gave us John singing Now & Then completing the circle.
(Insert Twilight Zone theme song here)
Nice coincidence that he called
