That's pretty cool, could be even cooler if the fins had some nerf whistles on them...

u wanna light it from the top of the motor for optimal thrust so the fuse should light the top of the grain not the bottom

This is correct otherwise the rocket motor starts very slowly. I did rectify this for my launches using e match

do you think you could use copper thermite as a propellant? Do you think it would burn too quick? It has a ton of energy and lights fairly easy

It doesn't seem to produce any gases as products, so probably wouldn't work

probably not. thermites burn super hot so it would most likely not be the best propellent

I think you would instead want to use that to "light" the rocket....it would create a very even and powerful lightoff of a "candy rocket"(sugar&KNO3).

Although this is really cool ... I'd urge you to stop because HOLY HELL THIS IS DANGEROUS. The possibility of you A) Blowing yourself up B) Getting Shrapnel in you is really high unless you really know what your doing (Even then, its super dangerous). Consider using a metal/Cardboard case and some software to help you sim the motor beforehand and Using anywhere close to a single gram of BP is overkill for that rocket (see some online calculators). On the legal front, I'm certainly not an expert, But I do know that any motor over 62.5g of rocket propellent is classified as a High Powered Motor and you need a level 1 licence to use. Hope this helps and stay safe!

High power rocketry licenses are NOT federally required. They are required by NAR and Tripoli. Both of those are rocketry organizations and not governmentsl organizations. Their rules are just that. Rules. There is no law being broken. If you wanted to build and put a space shuttle SRB in your back yard for static testing you can without breaking any federal laws.
These organizations exist to self sanction the rocketry hobby to keep federal regulation at bay. This is why most vendors will not sell high powered rocket motors to individuals without a license. most..... Not all. Because none of the NAR or Tripoli regs carry any rule of law whatsoever.
This is no more dangerous than anything else we produce, and we make shaped charges, EFPs, claymore mines, mortar rounds etc.
