Tears streaming down my face, mum used to always sing this song to me,she passed away over 20,years ago,but recently felt her so near as IV been fighting terminal cancer for 3 years,I think she's heard my cries, thank you for posting this cause no one could of sang this song with such emotion and meaning like Connie ❤️
My mum died in 2021. She always sang this to my sister who has an intellectual disability and everytime my sister visits, she asks me to play this video. We always cry listening and think of mum, and talk about old times. Thank you for posting
Fabulous song i used to sing this to mybeautiful dauughter heln especialy for her it makes me very emotional connie you are the most wo derful singer ive ever heard thanks
I sent Connie this song in March 1965 having heard a demo recording of it. She loved the song so much she recorded it within two weeks of receiving it and flew to Britain the following month to promote its release.
One of Connie’s showcase numbers. The range of her voice is just superb. Gorgeous indeed. Her emotion throughout the song is just heart wrenching. And that last note. My heart !! Bella.
The major TV pop shows were Top of the Pops and Ready Steady Go. I don't think Connie appeared on either. She DID appear on Eamonn Andrews Show, and was briefly interviewed by him after she sang My Child. I've no doubt her appearance in the UK brought her back to people's attention, but it was too little too late. She didn't chart in 1963 or '64 in the UK ; in late '64, she produced the belter Don't Ever Leave Me, but by that time Cilla, Dusty, Sandie and Lulu had (largely undeservedly) taken over from Connie and Brenda Lee, and Connie's records got little air-time. So, the question is, having had huge success in UK till 1962, how come the visits stopped?
She is not in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. I don't know why. She doesn't have a star on the Hollywood Walk. I don't know why. Does not seem fair. She is my favorite.
The time for inducting Connie into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Shame was back in 1986 when it was inaugurated. To even consider inducting her now would be a gross insult!
I didn't know Shirley Bassey recorded this before Connie. I thought it was especially written for her. Connie's is far better. Shirley's voice is far too neurotic for me
20 all time greats label states STEREO ENHANCED MONO [this is wrong] while the back liner sais MONO ENHANCED STEREO[which is correct] I wonder if corrected labels exist?
When sending this song to Connie the intention was for to be a follow-up to "For Mama". Songwriters Vic Lewis and Don Black were so thrilled that Connie wanted to record it they flew to New York to attend the session, and made arrangements for her to undertake an immediate trip to the UK to promote it. It did not gain an official U.S release until its inclusion on the 4-CD "Souvenirs" collection in 1996.
@@jimkreider9997 I have recommended UMG to release this several times. This year they finally agreed to digitise some of her MGM albums in what will be an ongoing process. "My Child" was made available in digital format and, as will be noted by clicking on the Music in this Video tab, is automatically linked to UMG and garnering streaming royalties.
@@ronroberts Ron, if I only play actual records since I don't even have a CD player or for that matter a smart phone at my age, can I get access to these new releases. My albums of Connie have been played so many times that would be great.

Powerful memories for you. For me this song continues to remain one of Connie's all-time finest recordings!

Fantastic song, Fantastic Connie! I first heard this song on an album I bought in Sicily in 1976.

So proud to have been the one to send her this song.
@@ronroberts Why it wasn't rel in US, we'll never know, it could have been...a much bigger hit
@@rogerturner1881 It wasn't released in the U.S because she already had a new single issued.
