Hi again, Well, after watching several of your videos and other research too, I repotted my Cattleya. I'm so glad that I did! It was really rootbound and there were a lot of dead roots around the edge of the pot. It was growing in a medium of small pumice rocks and I had to soak it a couple of times to gently remove most of them. I switched to a medium of mixed bark & some pumice stones; mostly bark. I'm supporting the leaves that were bending and they seem to be doing well. The pseudobulb that bloomed is growing a new spike and a new root & I see other new roots around the others too. I'm hanging it outside & let it get sun after 4pm. It seems happy. In other news, I've got 2 Phalaenopsis orchids that are sending up flower spikes. It is the rainy season here & I water with collected rainwater, as able. I repotted them in early July. They are all outside, in a covered area outside of my kitchen. The temps get up between 72-86 F during the day and can get down into the high 50s at night. I live in Guadalajara Mexico. Cheers!

Hi Dani thanks for the video. The one on Paphs was very helpful and so was this one . I noticed the leaves on your Catts have different colors, the main one that you had on screen had a light white or yellowing on the leaf. . So my suggestion is , can you do a video on the different spotting, discoloration , damages, etc we can get on leaves . I always get some new things and am concerned what they might be , damage , bugs, etc.. Just food for thought. Thank you.

Hi, I love your tutorials! I got my first Cattleya about a month ago. This week, I noticed that 2 of the leaves are bending at the pseudobulb, bending sideways. One bulb just finished blooming(not one of the bent ones). The bent leaves look green and healthy. I have it outside, on a shelf that faces south. It does not get direct sunlight. I think that it might need to be repotted but I'm hesitating because it rode home in my car a month ago and it's in a new place. I have wondered about hanging the pot where it might get more sun, still facing south. We will get more sun from the south in the winter. Sorry for blathering on. Thank you for your videos!

Thank you Dani just received a new one and wow it’s different and pseudo bulbs are very wrinkled scares me tried hydration but it still didn’t plump up so it was raining 🌧 I gathered all my orchids and we went out on my rain benches that I put them all out in the rain I certainly had some delighted phals dendrobiums vandas, cymbidium, oncidium Cattleyas I have young ones but they don’t have wrinkled pseudo bulbs. Just wondering is that a problem for bulbs to be wrinkled very much. My roots are gorgeous. They seem to be light green leaves so things are probably ok but I was wondering have you ever had this issue?

    Hi dani
I noticed one of your orchids (the one with the green ring holder) has a dark mark on the leaf . 1 of my cattleyas has form a similar marking in the Centre of this leaf . First I thought it was a sunburn but It has slightly grown overnight and it’s on the underside of the leaf as well . Can I send a picture or could you advise me on what I should possibly do please .

My cattleya is a fast growing one it produces multiple pseudobulbs in different directions...when I bought it had remains of sheaths and flower spikes but now even though it is producing pseudobulbs they are not producing sheaths and they are not flowering either and it's been almost one year since I bought them I water and fertilise them on regular intervals and I have kept them on bright shade wat might be the problem with my cattleyas please reply...

I was just gifted a cattleyas that hasn't bloomed in 3 years. Plant appears to be very healthy. But has A Lot of aerial roots. What is the best way to address these roots without shocking the plant???
    Thank You..

Can you talk about the nessesity to keep cattleyas, especially species, on a dry side letting media to become bone dry from several days to months (during rest). Do you do that with your cattleays and then what about semi-hydro. I have cattleya maxima that I put in s/h and so far it does not work out by the book. The new roots just did't go deeper into the media where it's constantly vet so I can't say that they adapted as s/h theory predicts. Also it is said that some cattleyas simply will grow endlessly but with no flowers if you don't give them dry periods. Seems like s/h theory just ignores this saying "Well we just creating constant monsoon, isn't it nice?". But I see you have no problems with species in S/H? It would be so interesting to know.
