Dan...great lesson on the concepts here....more and more of these videos would be great...your book is very good as well...looking forward to more content...
You did a great job at fairly quickly getting close, to sounding like what he is doing. That damn guy, has us focusing on glass and frets around his left hand, while his right hand is tickling up a forgin language at will. There are places in this song that just twist my soul harder than the devl's tritone ever has. Thats a special little something that he does in there, around the time you menton the phrasing.
Dan, I’ve just started slide and your videos has inspired me to keep going. It’s not as easy as I thought it would be but I like the challenge . I would love to hear more how to videos on slide from you. Thank you!
Mark, thanks so much for the support, I really do appreciate it. I'm glad to hear I'm inspiring you along your slide journey. I hope to continue to do that!
Dan ,it was worth watching for your reaction of sheer joy to the amazing playing of Mr Trucks.l saw him play in London once and it’s a definite eye opener and head shaker to watch someone so accomplished. Thanks for doing these videos and you are no slouch with a slide either, love your playing.
Dan ,I just wanted tell your playing has inspired me a lot , some time back I discovered Derek trucks and then your channel has been such great resource for slide guitar, thanks a ton ❤️
Dan!!! Thanks for this. Great job. Love your reactions. Both your analysis and breakdown are invaluable. Extremely helpful for someone like me who is trying to get my slide playing together. Boy, do I have a long way to go. Looking forward to more of these.
Dude, Duane and Derek are of the same spirit 🙌! Sky Dog lives on through Derek, and it's Awesome! You have a pretty good slide sound your own self...👋😎👍
Amazing class Dan! The reactions lol... it really takes a lot of work to dismantle these licks and explain them note by note. Please keep making these! 🎸🎸🎸
Dan this is amazing and super helpful! I wish I could be able to learn as fast as you. Keep them coming, please! Also, I would love to see a breakdown of the "Keep on Growing" live from the Fox Oakland solo or "The Sky Is Crying" live at Red Rocks 2012 solo or the "Midnight In Harlem" record solo (I just can't choose, there are too many!)
Sweet! Thanks Alessia. I'll write all those down! I haven't heard that version of The Sky is Crying in a while, so maybe I'll try and tackle that one first..
Your face when you immediately reconized, the moment when, the sound of the shapes, and the timing he was making them in, was previously unknown to humankind, until the birth of derek. It's like having to learn several words from another language, and become good enough at using them, to pass yourself off as a local. I Gave up years ago on trying to play some very well known Joe Walsh songs. Funk 49 intro, is one half guitar, and one half Joes DNA, and I wasn't able to replicate it. Same with the begining of lifes been good. A hillbilly can learn a speech of Churchill's word for word, and it won't sound the same at all, and probaly won't motivate anyone.
While that sounds great it is nothing compared to his playing of the same song on the Gov't Mule album The Deep End, Volume 1. The way he and Warren play off of each other is nothing short of perfection in my eyes.

One of my favorite solos by Derek! Gave me chills the first few times!!
My man, yeah!
Your humility and gentleness is exemplary, additionally you're great at explaining
Thanks so much Ulo-that means a lot to me!
Good to see I’m not the only one who reacts like that to a Derek solo.
Love this kind of lesson. Please do more like this.
Ha! Can't help but let the guitar faces out when you hear a Derek solo. Thanks for the feedback man--more to come!

Do you think you could do a breakdown of his solo on Desdemona from this show? This is the show they did for the One Way Out live album in 2004.
It's been a while since I've heard that one--I'm sweating just thinking about trying to break it down!
@@danvtoppo I believe in ya, Dan! You killed this one, I have no doubt you’ll find a way to get that one.

Gotta check that one out!
